1853014 tn?1340038575 Not everyone who gets the shot of pneumonia vaccine gets affected and experiences a problem. There are people who have mild side effects on the vaccine, but it usually doesn’t last long and is minor that it doesn’t need any treatment. One can even handle it by his own or the health provider. About half of the individuals who take the shot felt and experiences swelling and soreness on the spot where the shot was done, which is usually at the arms.
250701 tn?1320974765 Sorry haven't been around, I have been sick for two weeks now. Went to the Dr. they gave me antibiotics, but they failed to take an xray. Come to find out Monday they took an xray and I have pneumonia. I have been home all week. Now I get to take my shot tonight and I hope it don't wipe out my immune system to bad. Dr. had to put my ribo back down to 400 until I get well. Well I'll let you know what happens tomorrow.
Avatar f tn Got mine today + my pneumonia shot.
Avatar f tn I'm not sure why your father was refused, I'm over 65 and the first thing they do is inject me with pneumonia shot. I refuse the flu shot, I've never had one and don't want one, the influenza's just mutate an every one I know who get's shot, get's the flu anyway. BUT as I have COPD severe, I do get the pneumonia shot now, my first one ever this year. You need to speak with his doctor and ask why.
Avatar f tn My husband was hospitalized for pneumonia and he has pulmonary fibrosiis and congestive heart failure .He is 85 years . They could have given him the flu shot . Is there any harm in getting the shot once more???
Avatar n tn I got the pneumonia shot two days ago and today woke up to a very very red, hot to the touch and swollen arm from injection spot to elbow--is this normal
419309 tn?1326503291 Got my pneumonia shot w/ the seasonal flu vaccine on Monday. My arm is stiiiiiiilllll sore - actually it's maybe still getting worse yet. If they put more mercury in, that might help, plus I'd be better at deciding how warmly to dress in the morning. I'll get the h1n1 whan that's available here in injection. Didn't know there were two pneumonia shots, but I do know they only cover a fraction of the bugs. The deal with h1n1 is it rapidly damages the little hairs (silica?
518117 tn?1429276273 I have known of so many people that have taken flu shots over the years and end up getting flu like symptoms from the shot. Plus, I have yet to ever take the pneumonia shot. I not one bit afraid to take a shot. Never been scared of needles. But, I am though afraid of taking shots, that are only going to make me sick. When I am trying to prevent things like flu and pneumonia. To prevent becoming ill to begin with. Then, there is this swine flu that is all in the news, etc.
Avatar m tn Any ill effects on getting two shots of pneumonia vaccine within 3 years, I am unable to find anything on the net regarding this, please help. Thanks...
Avatar m tn I asked my doctor if I could get the pneumonia shot this year since I struggled so much last year with my second bout of Pneumonia. He said I should only get the shot if I am 65 years old or diabetic. I do not want to struggle this year like I did last year. Am I too young? Am I not eligible? Is it a health risk for me to get this shot?
Avatar m tn It may not cause much harm except that it may interfere to some extent with the immune response to the vaccine. Pneumonia vaccine is an inactivated vaccine containing only a portion of the microbe; therefore the vaccines cannot possibly cause pneumococcal disease. Neither will it cause any permanent immune system damage. It should in no way cause any serious future consequences. Do consult a local health care provider and discuss all your concerns. Hope it helps. Do keep us posted.
620048 tn?1358018235 Well, my father-in-law was in the last group getting that vaccine - before they took that dangerous vaccine off the market. That vaccine killed him. He was gone within a month of having received the swine flu vaccine. I later met at least a half dozen people who had been disabled in different ways from that vaccine - but I never ever met anyone who had actually gotten the swine flu!! Go figure!!
Avatar n tn I have asthma and 4 years ago I had pneumonia year after year. Than I started getting the pneumonia vaccine. I had no side effects from it expect no pneumonia.
Avatar f tn Consequently, I have not had a flu shot in 12 years but today my doctor talked me into a pneumonia shot. About 10 hours after the shot I had sever diarrhea & then downright EXPLOSIVE vomiting. I'd just had low blood sugar even though I ate my dinner but the more juice I drank the more nauseated I felt - until I vomited. Now I feel almost 100% fine but I have never experienced vomiting like that in my life.
898849 tn?1241811271 How important is it to get the flu and/or pneumonia vaccine, being that I have heart failure. I just heard about the recent death in Washington where the individual had a heart condition, pneumonia and swine flu. I was recently diagnosed with CHF in January, so all this is still very new to me.
649848 tn?1534633700 I can only speak for my own personal experience. I get a flu shot every year under doctor advisement, as well as the pneumonia shot when needed. I have never personally have experienced any side effects whatsoever, and have not gotten sick with the flu either. However, I do have an elderly client that normally gets the standard flu shot every year without incident. But this year she was told she needed to get the one for 65 and older patients as it is stronger and covers more strains.
973741 tn?1342342773 So, what do you think? Back in the day when I was more involved in the medical world, the big fear with the flu wasn't so much the actual flu which feels horrible, don't get me wrong, but the secondary infections that people got. Pneumonia being a big one and I've read more and more about sepsis post flu. Do you think the flu shot could ultimately save lives or is it a waste of time?
Avatar n tn Could this have been a misdiagnosis of pneumonia instead of hepatitis b? One shot of I think the globulin injection (i think that is what it is called) would have cured him from this illness if it was diagnosed and his shot record evaluated in 1990 would have told them that he does not have teh hepatitis b vaccine. Does anyone know when the CDC recommended hepatitis b for school age children came into play? I feel that the system just failed somehow or another. Any thoughts?
Avatar f tn If pneumonia, is this a new pneumonia, a pneumonia condition caused by the flu virus itself, or standard pneumonia(s)? If a standard pneumonia, will a pneumonia shot five years ago give any protection, and/or would one now give any protection? Also, will Tamiflu from 2004 still work?
338416 tn?1420045702 Hi, you don't need to get the pneumonia vaccine every year - once will do you until you reach a certan age, I believe I remember 65, and then you need to get it again. My pcp says I have to get the flu shot - no choice since my MI and possible MS. Thanks for the timely reminder.
250084 tn?1303307435 Sorry you're so sick! Definitely lay off the cigs. I had pneumonia before, so I know how bad you're feeling. I was smoking at that time and I had to quit then, too. Whenever you've gotten well, you should definitely get the pneumonia shot. I had one and I also always get a flu shot.
Avatar n tn I would rather get the shot than take a chance with the flu, cause the shot might be iffy but that flu can kill.
Avatar f tn I got the flu shot and the whooping cough vaccine. I didn't get them both on the same day though.
1777240 tn?1315627585 from any vaccine, but you can not get the flu from a flu shot. There is also no evidence that exposure to a dead particulate vaccine can cause an exacerbation. There is quite a bit of evidence that influenza is worse than vaccine sickness and that the fever from influenza can cause a pseudo-exacerbation. You can also be contagious and a public health hazard. It is a risk vs. benefit issue. The benefits of getting the flu shot far outweigh the risks.
Avatar f tn I know I'll get the regular flu shot and probably the swine flu shot too. The flu can be dangerous in pregnancy. I too plan to talk to my OB next visit. I remember several deaths last year from the swine flu!
Avatar f tn You SHOULD get the flu vaccine! If you get the flu you will probably have a hard time dealing with it. Even 'normal' people should be vaccinated. Alot of thyroid patients are immuno-suppressed and catch alot of things going around, so it is very advisable to protect yourself. I had the flu vaccine for the first time this year. I didn't get the flu when everyone here in Australia got it. I did get pneumonia though, which is totally not related to flu...had that 4 times this year!
Avatar m tn I saw a pulmonologist who diagnosed me with asthma and put me on corticosteroids. Does that sound right to you? I took a flu shot and a pneumonia vaccine yesterday. Will that keep the pneumonia from recurring?
