Avatar f tn Opacities which appear as an indistinct haziness or as streaks may indicate infection (e.g. pneumonia or tuberculosis). Bigger rounded opacities may signify a possible malignancy or TB. Multiple pinpoint densities on the upper lung field could also imply tuberculosis. An opacity found on chest x-ray merely suggests a certain diagnosis (like pneumonia, TB , or malignancy). Some other tests are frequently needed to verify the diagnosis.

This also causes a loss of appetite; as such this is accompanied by weight loss. So, record her temperatures, on a two hourly basis to detect an evening rise of temperature. Avatar n tn Besides the investigations mentioned, it needs to be correlated with clinical symptoms and blood tests. Tuberculosis can cause an evening rise of temperature and increased sweating. This also causes a loss of appetite; as such this is accompanied by weight loss. So, record his temperatures, on a two hourly basis to detect an evening rise of temperature. Also, the blood counts will show a raised ESR and increased lymphocytes.

Last week she had pneumonia Xray was taken and antibiotic was given to her and she seems to be feeling fine now. However when she was taken for a follow-up the doctor had said the radiologist said her lymph nodes were enlarged and a followup should be done at the end of the week. My daughter is beside hersel with worry and so am I. Could we be looking at something worse to come?
Avatar f tn Well defined opacities in lung on X-ray can be due to a benign or malignant nodule, tuberculosis, pneumonia or any infarct or granulomatosis. The opacities can also be diffuse—as seen in as in fluid collection, fibrosis, asbestosis, silicosis, tuberculosis etc. You will need more specialized tests like CT chest for a confirmed diagnosis. If you do not have any symptoms, there may not be a cause of concern, as this may be a benign nodule that may just need an annual follow-up.

I have had x rays many years apart and the scar tissue still exists. I am not ill, have no symptoms yet radiologists suopect PTB, Tuberculosis or lung adenopathy.

But I doubt it. It depends on her usual state of health. But as for him taking something ahead of time I meant he can take something after he was exposed to her if it was TB. Usually Isoniazid (INH).

Avatar m tn It could be treatment resistance as develops in certain types of pneumonia or tuberculosis, but it can also be cancer (especially since you were a smoker until recently). He did a chest x-ray and told me I had pneumonia and that he would send my x rays to a radiologist for review (standard practice). I took the antibiotics and felt better. Avatar n tn If it was negative for malignancy, that means they didn't obtain any cancerous cells during the biopsy. That is a good thing. But obviously there is something strange going on there. I think the best thing is to let the specialist follow your friends progress. Over time the doctor will be able to understand better what is going on, especially if the patient presents atypical for certain diseases looked into.
Avatar n tn Hi, the opacity as it is in the apical portion of the lung, its likely to be due to tuberculosis, hence the apicolordotic view, means the ordinary X rays cannot visualize this area of the lung, so this is a special view from top. This could also be fibrous tissue from an old lesion. Also, the PPD could be positive due to an old infection.

He quickly said that pneumonia takes a good 6 weeks to clear from your lungs and I should get another lung picture in 6 weeks. He did not seemed concerned at all about cancer. Or at least he did not say he was. The final doctor I saw was the regular MD who released me from the hospital.
Avatar m tn Foul smelling sputum indicates an infection. This can occur due to pneumonia, lung abscess and sometimes due to a tuberculosis infection. You will need to consult your doctor who may need to do a sputum culture and sensitivity to determine what antibiotic the organism is susceptible to. He may even ask for blood test and an X ray. In the meantime take OTC acetaminophen if you have temperature, try to take warm oral fluids and do steam inhalations prior to your meals.
