242516 tn?1368223905 The flu has passed epidemic rates in much of the country, and if you don't have a cold, I'm sure you have a friend who has the sniffles, fever, chills, aches and pains of a viral upper respiratory infection. This is different from a bacterial infection such as sinusitis, bronchitis, or pneumonia. A viral infection doesn't improve with antibiotics as these infections do. A virus hijacks your own body's healthy cells and uses it to reproduce and spread.
Avatar m tn Hello, I'm hoping someone can help me... I have two dogs, they are both 11 yrs old and have been healthy their entire lives. About a month ago, one of them began coughing- a dry hacking cough that comes on suddenly or after what seems like some difficulty breathing. She is a jack russell terrier normally around 20lbs and has gained about 3.5 lbs in the past couple months, which I'm not sure has anything to do with her cough.
Avatar n tn If you have a virus that resulted in pneumonia, while allopathic medicine has little in the way of anti-virals, there are plants that have anti-viral properties. Olive leaf and elderberry are two examples. Herb Pharm makes a tincture that helps with virus control. That being said, though, and assuming this is viral in nature, once you have pneumonia you have progressed significantly through the viral process already and the more important thing is clearing the lungs.
Avatar f tn I will hope you cleared the virus. Please let us know for sure when you find out. I've had pneumonia only once in my life. That was the only time I have been able to quit smoking and I quit for over six months (I know I was stupid to start again) because the pneumonia was so hard on me. I could not get my energy back. My doctor said it would take up to six months, and she was right. This all happened about two years before I even found out I have hep C, though it was there all along.

Avatar f tn With treatment bacterial is cured in 1-2 weeks..viral will last longer. There are vaccines now .The type of anti biotic depends on the type of pneumonia she has , as she has only taken the meds for a few days I would continue as prescribed but if indeed she seems worse and her temperature climbs it may be aswell to have her checked out again ..
Avatar n tn iam just geting over pneumonia and i have started getting joint pain.
Avatar f tn There can be honest disagreement among experts about the management of RML atelectasis, bronchiectasis and recurrent pneumonia, despite appropriate, intense medical treatment, in young children with a normal immune system. There is general agreement, however that, when localized bronchiectasis, especially of the RML, becomes refractory, more severe or resistant to medical management, lobar resection may be warranted.
4869010 tn?1360263544 I went through it in the Army in '72...3 blood trails off each deltoid after the 3rd stop...real cattle shoot operation...and one that has long since been discontinued for obvious reasons.
Avatar f tn There is no realistic risk of getting any infectious diseases like rabies from this event. Cattle raised on a farm aren't going to have any diseases that would transmit to humans. The biggest risk from a deep cut is bacterial infection. If the area around the cut starts to swell or get more red and puffy, you should see a doctor for antibiotic treatment.
658901 tn?1403814634 That picture is so sweet of them all laying together. How much does he weigh? He has the ears of a Corgi,But his markings looks more like a cattle dog.I bet he is one spoiled little guy.Take care.
1994268 tn?1329466212 It is important to bite the bullet and take him in to the vet for these lumps to be checked. His excessive drinking also has to be addressed. It could be caused by a number of things....kidney insufficiency, or diabetes (which, if caught nice and early respond very well to treatment) Or there may be another cause, but it is best it is discovered quickly so treatment can be started. He will need a full blood-count. And he will need those lumps checked.
Avatar n tn Hi bibban12, The thing about pneumonia is it's just a broad term for lung inflammation, and the air sacs filling up with fluid, but it isn't a specific diagnosis of what caused the pneumonia.

Avatar f tn We live in Bulgaria and I am having a hard time getting proper treatment for my daughter. She is a year and 7 months old and last month we spent 16 days in 2 hospitals diagnosed with "Bronhit Pneumonia" which I can only translate as Bronchitis and Pneumonia. In the hospitals they changed antibiotics 5 times and did 5 xrays. After 2 weeks she has started coughing and wheezing after running and playing. This has occurred 4 times both indoors and outside.

Avatar m tn The question is whether I should continue the interferon treatment when I am fighting the pneumonia. Your kind advice is very much appreciated. Many thanks. I myself has also had bronchiectasis (at lingular) though the pneumonia this time is at right lobe.
Avatar n tn Recovering from respiratory illnesses such as pneumonia can be different for people. Some recover in a week and others can take a month or more. https://www.lung.org/lung-health-and-diseases/lung-disease-lookup/pneumonia/treatment-and-recovery.html Here's another article to consider in your care. https://www.drugs.com/cg/pneumonia-aftercare-instructions.
Avatar m tn they vaccinated us like cattle chest to back in line with hundreds maybe even thousands of soldiers never cleaning the equipment and the sleeves of our t-shirts and arms were covered in blood...this Harvoni is a blessing, however, so expensive that it's almost impossible to afford...I'm glad to hear that the VA is stepping up to take care of those of us that need it! It would be nice to get rid of this life altering disease before it takes my life.
Avatar n tn I recently had my puppy who was less than 2 years old pass away from aspiration pneumonia. I tried everything from antibiotics to oxygen therapy and nebulization treatment. Unfortunately, he just couldn't handle it and 3 days later he was gone. I've been thinking about it the last couple of months and trying to understand what aspiration pneumonia is and how it caused his death. The vet explained to me that aspiration pneumonia is an infection that can feel like a chemical burn.
Avatar n tn Bacterial or viral lung infection can precipitate asthma with wheezing in a person genetically predisposed to asthma. Treatment of the presumed asthma, aside from treatment of the infectious pneumonia, is appropriate. So, this could be asthma, superimposed on pneumonia. Your son could have whooping cough, despite immunization against it. If his fever and sweating with clammy skin has subsided, it is probably a sign that the antibiotic therapy has been effective and the pneumonia is clearing.
Avatar f tn I probably should have put this on the autism forum, but since I know most every one here, and we all have more in common I felt more comfortable just venting here. I am sorry for not keeping in touch the past few weeks. first week pneumonia, second approved for chemo, third no chemo, forth no chem. I dont even want to know what the ca125 is since my numbers are always running pretty high, anyway I am sorry.
374933 tn?1291081784 The idea of an infectious cause of arthritis has been around since 1899, when a form of arthritis in cattle was diagnosed as being caused by a bacterium. In humans, this idea was further developed in the 1930’s by a rheumatologist, Dr. Thomas Brown. Dr. Brown was able to isolate a bacterium, Mycoplasma Bacterium, from the joints of people suffering from rheumatoid arthritis. After isolating the bacteria, Dr.
135456 tn?1301437624 Last weekend I wound up in the ER with ecruciating pain in my right side. My chest x-ray showed pneumonia. The antibiotic is clearing it up nicely but I wish I had seen my doctor much earlier - could have saved myself all that drama and pain.
Avatar n tn Given your age, if the dr. makes a diagnosis of pneumonia you will be hospitalized for treatment (its standard protocol for anyone over 60), your also going to need to get a chest xray. In the mean time it's a good idea to take a break from smoking pot. Don't play games here, if you really do have s.pneumonia it can kill you. You may get lucky and just have a case of chronic bronchitis but blood is typically not seen with that.
Avatar m tn My 4 yr. old son was diagnosed with walking pneumonia after getting hives on his face 2 days in a row. At first we thought it was an allergy we couldn't put our finger on because he has an allergy to dairy and sesame. But he hadn't come in contact with either one. Once our pediatrician examined him she said the hives were from walking pneumonia. He is on the third day of antibiotics but hives are still appearing on his face. They go away within the hour without any treatment.
