7900821 tn?1395192104 Now 3 months ago they told me I had walking pneumonia, diagnosed with a blood test. Then I get a call that tells me that I have pneumonia in my left lobe. They put me on cipro. I had a bad fall 2 nights ago. The ambulance had to come and get me. Guess what! I have pneumonia in both lungs. How can I keep getting pneumonia? I am concerned because there have been so many of my dad's side of the family dying with lung cancer with mets to the brain.

Avatar f tn Walking pneumonia can take a lot out of you (especially since it sounds like this pneumonia has been fairly resistant). The pneumonia may resolve with the doxycycline, but it can still take you a few weeks to feel better. I suggest that you take you medication as prescribed, get plenty of rest, drink lots of fluids and give yourself some time to heal. When you finish your doxycycline, be sure to see your doctor again so that he/she can make sure that the pneumonia is gone. Good luck.
Avatar n tn Female age 50 ... I was being treated for pneumonia with 10 days of levaquin and lodrain 24 D. On the fifth day I started having moderate and continual pain between my sholder blades in the upper back and heartburn (no heartburn for 25 years previously) and extreme fatigue. I thought it was the pneumonia and didn't go to the doctor for five days. My blood test then showed troponin was high, doctor said I may have had a heart attack. Doctor wanted a stress test ... which showed normal.
Avatar n tn And has been said many times on this forum, there is no medical condition and no medication that delays HIV antibody or otherwise alters HIV test results. That includes all kinds of pneumonia and all the drugs used to treat it. (Potent chemotherapy may do it, but even that is theoretical without any actual known instances of it actually happening.) If indeed you have had no HIV exposures in the past 6 months, you can be sure you do not have HIV.
Avatar n tn Will a patient see significant improvement on their PFT test after taking medication for a period of time. This was my orginal PFT test three weeks after having pneumonia and the second set of tests were performed two months afterwards. Do most people with COPD see this much of an improvement on their later PFT results or is there a possibility that maybe what I have is more asthma seen COPD? These were the results of my first test FVC ref 3.51 pre 2.74 78% post 3.
Avatar f tn My eleven year old daughter suffers from chronic cough, chronic pneumonia. She has every test known to man ( I think) and a few surgeries, both exploratory and for sinus surgery. Despite being treated by a team of doctors, no one can pinpoint a reason for the continuing pneumoias. She has been tested and treated for reflux, asthma, sinusitis, immunology. She is becoming resistant to antibiotics and we are very frightened for her.
Avatar n tn You could have a secondary bacterial infection that you can get after viral pneumonia that is called walking pneumonia and is caused by either bacteria called Mycoplasma or Chlamydia pneumoniae. "Walking" pneumonia gives you a low grade fever, tiredness, dry hacking cough, pain in the ribs area. They can check for these by testing and culture. It is important for you to get your lungs listened to to make sure you are ok.
Avatar f tn i did my hiv test in 90 day after exposer it came back negative the 4th gen test. But i wonder can it be negative even if it is positve i had pneumonia when i was a child before 25 years ago. So my question is can that stage of pneumonia make my immune supressed till now to show the result negative even its positive? Please can you guide me about it and pneumonia causing sero conversion?
Avatar f tn For example, the bacteria that causes pneumonia called streptococcus pneumonia is a normal bacteria residing in all our throats. Since we all don't get pneumonia from it, the determining factor is not the virulence of the bacteria. The bacteria multiplies without restraint only when our immune systems become compromised.
Avatar n tn Still terrified about the possibility of HIV, I requested another HIV test. It was a antibody blood test that came back negative as well. My doctor assured me that I was worrying too much and I was not showing any real sign of HIV. He told me chances were good that if I was experiencing something as severe and walking pneumonia due to the HIV virus so early in the infection, it would surely show up on my blood results. With a negative result, he said I should ease my fears.
Avatar f tn The easiest way to stop yourself going down this route is to get scientific proof you are HIV free - i.e. an HIV test. I am confident that you are HIV negative. Pneumonia (lower respiratory tract infection) can occur in anyone - most cases have nothing to do with HIV.
Avatar n tn She had one positive sweat test (her levels were 66) and one negative test. I was told that because she had a negative test that she did not have cystic fibrosis. However, she had blood drawn yesterday for the genetic testing for cystic fibrosis. We will have the results in 2 weeks.
Avatar n tn Hi, just because a sputum smear, or BAL smear are negative it doesnt mean TB is ruled out, the second part of the test, which is the culture takes 6-8 wks to grow something, the AFB, or acid fast bacilli( which is the bacteria that can cause TB ) is slow growing. starting tb meds empirically is good in the sense that your doctor can always stop the medications if its completely ruled out, rather than waiting 6-8 wks and then finding out it is TB.
Avatar f tn I am 59 yrs old and have had pneumonia 3 times in last 7 months. I have had pneumonia many many times since I was born .Have been told many years ago that my lungs are scarred from this. Each time i go to my doctor he says I have bacterial infection adn treats me with Levaquinn for 7 days(500mg).Had an xray done reclty and now he wants me to see a lung specialist saying I need to find out why my immune system is weakened.
Avatar f tn t imagine those symptoms being directly the result of the pneumonia. I can envision that the pneumonia and related stress affected your thyroid levels and caused the symptoms you mentioned. What is your thyroid med type and daily dosage? Also, please post your thyroid related test results and reference ranges shown on the lab report. Just because your Free T4 was somewhere within the "normal" range does not mean it is adequate. The range is far too broad.
Avatar f tn then quick onset of death usually only occurs in infants or elderly - or in people who have a weakened immune system. Pneumonia caused by bacteria is more angers than pneumonia caused by a virus, but oftentimes a virus can pave the way foe the bacteria to thrive. However, a bacterial pneumonia usually comes with a fever. There was a famous man named Jim Hensen (who created the Muppets) who died from a bacterial pneumonia.
Avatar m tn I have had atypical pneuomonia twice (mycoplasma pneumonia or walking pneumonia usually but it can be caused by chlamydia pneumonia too). Was this bout of atypical pneumonia following a influenza or cold? These are not too unusual either. You could be lactose intolerant, have wheat gluten intolerance or a food allergy of some other type. Crohns disease? I would do an emanation diet where you knock out all dairy and see if that works if not knock out all wheat etc.
Avatar m tn On 5/10/09, I went back to the same doctor to do another blood test for Chlamydia, and I also went to a hospital to perform a swab test (a stick was inserted into my penis) just to make sure whether my first test was a false positive, I will get both results in a week. Questions: 1. If I did have Chlamydia, since I have already finished my prescription on 5/4, would the swab test done on 5/10 be able to tell if I ever was indeed infected with Chlamydia?
