Common Questions and Answers about Pneumonia symptoms kittens

pneumonia

Avatar n tn ve encountered a case in which a 5-day old puppy was brought in the clinic with hemoptysis, I concluded that it was aspiration pneumonia because the puppy was only been nursed by the owner... We immediately administered antibiotics and wasn't able to put on IV fluids due to the small size of the puppy, we tried administering oral fluids, but it doesn't work well.... after an hour, the puppy died and coughed a lot of blood....
Avatar f tn I have a litter of kittens about 6 week and they seem to have a cold.Their eyes mat shut and their noses are runny.what can i do to get them better?
Avatar f tn We were fostering 2 baby kittens and they were fine for 3 weeks they played and got fat then they were 2 lbs so the rescue wanted them to go get fixed. After they came home they were fine for 2 to 3 days but then they stopped eating got really thin and one of them we took to the vet and she had died the next day. Then 2 days later her sister was found dead on my floor.
Avatar n tn They also all seem to show a lack of muscle mass on the hind legs. On one of these kittens, the symptoms were explained as a heart murmur, but the other kitten does not have a heart murmur. She is negative not only for respiratory viruses, but also for blood born viruses. None of the other kittens show these symptoms, and my vet and I are both stumped. I was wondering if anyone had ever experienced anything like this.
Avatar n tn Okay, so I have 2 3 week old kittens. One is quite a bit smaller. They have to be bottlefed, but for the first week and a half or so of their life they had Mom. Anyway, on Thursday one was drinking but I accidentally pushed on the bottle and some came out of it's nose. I cleaned it up and 'cleared' the lungs as much as possible. Now her breathing sounds fine, but I'm just wondering if it's possible she might have aspiration pneumonia?
Avatar f tn yes-take to vet immediately- i almost lost my Bob because I didn't know that coughing is a bad sign in cats unless actually coughing up a hairball-it turned out he'd gotten pneumonia. Do NOT hesitate-get your kitty to vet stat-coughing is NOT NORMAL in cats.
Avatar f tn I was able to get several of the shelter kittens adopted yesterday, but unfortunately, Tucker was not one of them. Maggie Moo (Good Humor Man's sister and the one that lost an eye from clymedia) is also back at the shelter for adoption. Meanwhile, GHM has had a relapse of his pneumonia. Not nearly as bad as it was before, but he has been somewhat congested for the past week.
Avatar n tn We have some kittens about 6 weeks old and they have been acting lethargic and having green ***** eyes and diarrhea. One of our adult cats (not their mother) has symptoms of Feline Leukemia? and I am concerned about these kittens. Is there anything we can do for this? Is there any treatments available that is not real expensive that can be administered to them? Please advise. Thanks.
Avatar f tn Good Humor Man is just about well (again). He has had two serious bouts with pneumonia now in his short little life. He is almost 5 months old now. We take him back to the vet on Saturday and hoping he will finally be getting a clean bill of health.
Avatar f tn I have been dealing with a crisis the last couple of weeks, both with my own foster kittens as well as at the shelter. Good Humor Man has pneumonia. We almost lost him over the weekend, but with oxygen therapy, SQ hydration, and lots of antibiotics, he is hanging in there. He has lost some weight and is very skinny right now. He isn't out of the woods yet, but with a supplemental tube feeding and SQ hydration, I'm hopeful he will pull through.
Avatar n tn I am not sure about the diseases and symptoms in cats/kittens and i would appreciate any info u have. Thank you!!
1359014 tn?1277422511 Ok i have 2 kittens i had for about 1 month now and since i got them they had diaherra i tried everything and i dont know what to do can anyone help me because my mom said if the keep having it they have to go:( so plez help me
550796 tn?1214942591 Your kittens body must clear out the aspirate from within, through his immune system, which means that the lungs macrophages, and other white blood cells must physically remove microscopic amounts of the foreign substance that has accidentally made it into the lungs. It will take several weeks to months before the lungs have cleared depending on how much food was aspirated.. A humidifier wouldn't hurt, steroids are sometimes warranted, and cough medicine with an expectorant would help.
Avatar f tn Yes you can.I have it right now from the powdered litter in the air. My Dr.is sure of it, because of the test results.
Avatar m tn 2 kittens were found at work in the parking lot on 6/28. The placenta was still attached but it looked dry. They still had gunk in their mouths and were very cold by the time they were noticed. (3 other "brothers" were found in in the same parking lot-but were not alive). I'm trying to rescue them but 1 died approx 30 hours after being found. His saliva became thick, stringy and mucusy. Towards the end his gums became very white.
Avatar f tn I am most concerned that, if the kittens who died, died suddenly without any obvious symptoms, that they could have succumbed to panleukopenia which strikes quite suddenly and most often in kittens. I would recommend you have mama and the kittens tested. Even if they are negative, they may have been exposed so you need to be especially careful about sanitation and quarantine from other cats since this is highly contagious and almost always fatal, especially in young kittens.
5978650 tn?1377722771 They put him on the scale and he weighed 1oz. They said he had pneumonia and was put on meds right away. He is almost 6 months old and still on a bottle! He refuses to eat solid food of any sort. The vet said I had to make him eat some sort of food being that he is too old for a bottle and recommended I start putting baby cereal in his bottles. But alas that is not working, he is still gagging when soft food touches his tongue and throws up.
Avatar m tn When your cd4 falls below 200. You wouldn't have PCP within 45 days of infection.
Avatar f tn Yes I did tell them. The pneumonia symptoms are starting to clear up I don't have a fever, never had a cough, starting to breathe better, and I have a lot more energy but still a bit light headed and throat is kind of sore and my voice hasn't return fully. I have been tested will get the results tomorrow.
Avatar m tn Could be allergies, yes once you have had pneumonia you will have scarring ..it wont affect you, check out online for environmental allergies .
Avatar f tn Yes “walking pneumonia” is contagious. The development of more symptoms, in the face of antibiotic therapy, is worrisome as is the “side pain” which I assume to be pleurisy and suggests that this infection may fall into the category of complicated pneumonia. In this circumstance you should definitely request careful reevaluation by your doctor or his designate to include at a minimum a repeat chest X-ray, a complete blood count and culture of your sputum.
1303813 tn?1303159362 Most likely it is URI (upper respiratory infection), very common in cats and kittens under stress and highly contageous to other cats/kittens. In other words, if one kitten developed it, the others will get it. The good news is that if treated appropriately, it is rarely life threatening,. The vet will probably prescribe a course of antibiotics. It is also important to make sure the kittens stray warm.
Avatar f tn my kitten is drooling, gets cold and low crawls and seems not to know when she is on the edge of something. She also acts as though she cant see food that's in-front of her face. She gets better after shes on an anti biotic for a week then right back to the same symptoms,We've gone through this process 2 to 3 times now.Shes had several tests done and we still cant figure it out.Does anyone have a clue what might be wrong?
Avatar f tn It sounds like your little guy has an upper respiratory infection. Pretty common in stray kittens. Depending on what is causing the infection, he may or may not get better on his own. Since he does sound quite listless, he may have a more serious infection than he can handle on his own. A trip to the vet would be best. Good luck to you both.
Avatar f tn One might suspect that you have underlying asthma and that when you get a viral infection each year, it triggers pneumonia –like symptoms. I would suggest getting a pulmonary function test while you are sick to see if this is, indeed, asthma. If this is not the case, another possible reason is that the local immune system in your lungs is not protecting you from the infection. This is usually an antibody problem and can be checked with a blood test.
