Avatar f tn I was sent to a physio who was quite rude to me, telling me that my symptoms were stress related and I was imagining it. So the burning pains which drive me to despair are imaginary are they? I notice that these symptoms are worse in cold weather. More recently though, I have developed a lot of numbness and tingling in my arms and hands... Sometimes this extends to my legs and feet.

559992 tn?1216169738 I am so sorry to read you are in pain. the flu is bad enough but RA makes it worse. So, yes, the flu can make your RA flare. It is a good idea to get a flu shot early in the season if you have RA and a necessity (as is the pneumonia vaccine) if you are on Methotrexate, Enbrel, Humira or Remicade.

About 3 weeks after symptoms began, I finally went to the doctor and was treated with a Z-pack for pneumonia. I completed the 5 days of medication and my flu like symptoms had resolved. However, I continue to have terrible chest and rib pain. It is on the left side and center of my chest. It feels incredibly heavy, as if someone is sitting on my chest.
Avatar f tn I have had symptoms that have been increasing over the years. I am now 54 years old and have tried to stay in shape and stay active and have kept my weight down most of my life (has gone up 10 lbs in the last year). Sure enough, the infection cleared up, but my joints ached so bad I could not raise my arms to take a shower, put my clothes on, bend to tie my shoes, get in and out of a car quickly. Strength training and jogging was out of the question for a month.
Avatar f tn sound a lot like vasculitis or inflammation of the blood vessels and possibly heart lining (endocarditis) plus inflammation of the joints (arthritis like symptoms). All of these can be caused by chronic infections. My one question to you is whether you ever had a bout of pneumonia, possibly atypical pneumonia? In such cases we almost always find chronic infections that slowly became systemic, chronic infections after a childhood acute infection, such as M. pneumoniae.
Avatar f tn In looking at the drug interaction information, it seems that those who are taking the corticosteriods, are even more at risk for muscle rupture and more at risk for developing pneumonia. A chest x-ray a couple of days ago confirmed that I do NOT have pneumonia now, but I can still hear sounds in my lungs when I do deep breathing.

Avatar n tn From your description, you have severe gastro-esophageal reflux and, yes, this could well be the cause of recurrent pneumonia; a type of pneumonia called aspiration pneumonia. The reflux could also be the cause of what your doctors have diagnosed as “asthmatic bronchitis”, bronchitis with wheezing secondary to the aspiration of stomach contents into your bronchial tubes.
Avatar n tn There could be several causes for the symptoms you are having. Have any xrays been done? Which joints are involved? Does the pain shift from one joint to another? Rheumatoid arthritis is an autoimmune disorder that causes stiffness and pain in the joints. Osteoarthritis involves growth of bone spurs and degeneration of cartilage at a joint. It is very common in adults older than 45 and can cause joint pain. Joint pain may also be caused by bursitis (inflammation of the bursae).
Avatar f tn I am a female, mid 40's, battle weight, constantly tired, brittle nails, hair & skin dry, anemic, food intolerances getting worse & aching joints. I am rarely sick & try not to focus on health issues so I don't think I am a hypocondriac. Avatar f tn Yes “walking pneumonia” is contagious. The development of more symptoms, in the face of antibiotic therapy, is worrisome as is the “side pain” which I assume to be pleurisy and suggests that this infection may fall into the category of complicated pneumonia. In this circumstance you should definitely request careful reevaluation by your doctor or his designate to include at a minimum a repeat chest X-ray, a complete blood count and culture of your sputum.

Avatar f tn One might suspect that you have underlying asthma and that when you get a viral infection each year, it triggers pneumonia –like symptoms. I would suggest getting a pulmonary function test while you are sick to see if this is, indeed, asthma. If this is not the case, another possible reason is that the local immune system in your lungs is not protecting you from the infection. This is usually an antibody problem and can be checked with a blood test.
5601163 tn?1370701672 I recently underwent a two week course of Levaquin for pneumonia. On the follow-up visit with my doctor, a chest x-ray showed "right basilar opacity," which caused my doctor to order a CT scan. What does this mean?
