pneumonia

Avatar m tn These complications can include dehydration, ear or sinus infections, and bacterial or viral pneumonia, which can fill the air sacs in the lungs with pus or fluid, making it difficult to breathe and depriving older patients of adequate oxygen. In some cases, pneumonia may be asymptomatic, but it is still contagious if it results from a bacterial or viral infection.
Avatar n tn I have seen this in my workplace (I was a nurse in a hospital) a few times. Normally, people do have temps...I don't get really sky high temps when I get pneumonia (I get it frequently), actually I am low grade to 101'ish. Remember, I am not a doctor, what I say is from experience. Hope this helps..
Avatar m tn Back in June I caught what I assumed was a bad cold, and had all the typical cold symptoms for about 2 months, treated only with tylenol. 2 months later I was diagnosed with pneumonia in my right lung, treated with levoquin, azithromycin, tylenol, mucinex, ibuprofen, albuterol, and advair 250. After a 5 day stay in the hospital, I was discharged with a clean bill of health. However, a week after that I had a brief episode of syncope while running, which recurred again the next month.
Avatar n tn This is the pneumonia vaccine that is recommended as routine for those age 50+ or persons age 2 or older with certain chronic conditions or in certain environmental or social situations... Usually only one dose of this vaccine is needed, except under certain cicumstances such as: A second dose is recommended for people 65 years and older who got their first dose when they were younger than 65 and it has been 5 or more years since the first dose.
Avatar f tn Hospitals are full of germs too. There are more germs in hospitals than about any place else I can think of. Pneumonia is a big deal and you may want to think about getting a vaccination after you recover which is good for 10 years. Also, while you're at it, think about a shingles shot too which only people over 60 can have.
Avatar n tn As long as I am not having any worsening symptoms and am showing improvement, even if it is slow, that this is normal. If I have a fever or any change or worsening in symptoms I should go in to see her immediately. So I am relieved.
Avatar f tn My dad has always gotten a pneumonia vaccine, but this year when he went to get one he was told he didn't need one because he was over 65. What's up with that? He turned 70 this year and hasn't ever been told that. Is this part of Obama's plan for healthcare?

Avatar f tn Hello, my daughter, age 3, had a bronchoscopy and CT scan after repeated bouts of pneumonia in the same spot, right middle lobe. This all started after a severe RSV/pneumonia hospitalization as an infant. Her CT scan was read as "mild bronchiectasis" in the right middle lobe, same spot as her atelectasis. We know for sure that her last bout of pneumonia in march never fully cleared, b/c we did X-rays every 3 months. So she's had this atelectasis spot for quite awhile now.
242516 tn?1368223905 The flu has passed epidemic rates in much of the country, and if you don't have a cold, I'm sure you have a friend who has the sniffles, fever, chills, aches and pains of a viral upper respiratory infection. This is different from a bacterial infection such as sinusitis, bronchitis, or pneumonia. A viral infection doesn't improve with antibiotics as these infections do. A virus hijacks your own body's healthy cells and uses it to reproduce and spread.
279234 tn?1363105249 People that had the flu were showing up negative on the test but then developing pneumonia that goes hand in hand with H1N1. After my children recovered within 2-3 days..I thought, it must not have been H1N1. They were fine...no problem. Then it happened..ME the mom that never gets sick, started to feel not so good by Sun. I shrugged it off as being tired and allergies. Then the fever kick in. I started with a 101.6. I would take 2 tylenol. Within 2 hours my fever was up to 102.7.
Avatar m tn Nebraska...with all due respect, you are on the forum asking your own questions, you are not educated about HIV and yet you are going to give advice? That's not fair to the posters coming here expecting accurate answers. The OP does not need to request an HIV test because he did not have a risk...and also, telling someone to ask for "full blood work" not only doesn't make any sense, but it isn't helpful. Also, quit asking questions in other people's threads! OP...
Avatar f tn But it is usually a result of some other kinda bug thats not treated resulting in that it causes fluid on the lungs, which takes a while to turn into pneumonia. If you arnt having symptoms of the original chest cold, or flu your fine.
Avatar n tn Two weekends ago I woke up with the usual backache associated with pneumonia. I get it twice a year, so on Monday I called my doctor and went in. I was not seen by the doctor but was given prescriptions for the pneumonia and an order to get x-rays done. On Thursday I got the call that the x-rays did not show pneumonia and to stop taking the medication. On Friday I was worse so I went to the ER. That's where they told me I dislocated my ribs from coughing due to the pneumonia.....
Avatar f tn I weight train regularly and work on good nutrition. I began having a dull pain in the right side of my chest and of course assumed it was a pulled muscle. It hurts when I try to turn from side to side. It has now started to hurt when I take a breath, deep or shallow. Today actually , it began to throb as I was sitting motionless. I'm trying not to become too concerned about it, but it's starting to bother me. I had some chest x-rays about a month or two ago due to a bad cough.

Avatar n tn Hi, How are you? Some people develop sacs filled with fluid in the kidneys as they get older. These sacs or cysts are usually small oval or round thin-walled sacs with watery fluid in them. Kidney cysts are almost always benign and do not cause any problems. Some people can even go through life without even knowing that they have them. Tests that may confirm the diagnosis include ultrasound, computerized tomography (CT) or magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) scans.
