Common Questions and Answers about Pneumonia pathophysiology lung infection

pneumonia

Avatar n tn The symptoms of cough with wheezing and breathlessness more pronounced on left side could be due to more affection on left lung due to asthma, allergic bronchitis of left lung, left lung pneumonia (though this will also cause fever) and aspiration pneumonia. Aspiration pneumonia is seen in cases of severe GERD or gastric reflux where a part of the refluxed contents are aspirated by the lung. Left lung is more affected than right.
Avatar n tn but i was wondering if she can give and kind of lung infection like pneumonia or anything else. i went to the doctor and they said i had pneumonia and they they treated me with the bacteria kind but could it be the fungal pneumonia. wondering if i could got something from her or just worried.
Avatar n tn Pneumonia is a very serious lung infection that is caused by several different types of bacteria or viruses. Since you got well and then got sick again, you may either have a resistant strain, or have picked up a secondary infection. Yellow phlegm with a clear x-ray sounds like bronchitis. Either way, you need to see a pulmonary doctor to prescribe a different antibiotic to treat this new infection. Be sure to get lots of rest and drink plenty of fluids.
Avatar f tn I had a cyst on my back that developed an infection in it when I got pneumonia. After many rounds of antibiotics and several chest xrays, I still haven't gotten rid of the infection. I also had the cyst removed.
5601163 tn?1370701672 Could be residual changes from the pneumonia -- many times the xray takes longer to completely resolve than the symptoms, even after a course of antibiotics. Sometimes, pneumonia develops in response to mild airway blockage from a mass or tumor, so if they saw something (even small or subtle), they probably just want a CT to make sure it's not something like that.
Avatar m tn sounds like a bad chest or lung infection.. if you had pneumonia?? you would have high fever also and would be a very sick person.. its very dangerous.. GO to doctors either way for an antibiotic..
Avatar f tn Interferon can cause serious lung problems like COPD, lung fibrosis (scarring), inflammation and /or fluid accumulation, pneumonia, sarcoidosis.....and I've also seen lung bulla (large blisters in the lungs) happen from a rare allergic reaction. They did a chest X ray, right? A CAT scan would be even better. Here's some info on lung problems caused by interferon. It's written by hepatologists....... "Side Effects Management Handbook".....Chapter XII Pulmonary....
Avatar f tn I'm still suffering from a viral infection which gave me typical cold symptoms with pain in my right shoulder and neck , a swollen sore throat and a productive chesty cough. After two weeks I was prescribed, over the phone, Doxycycline antibiotics which haven't helped. It's been three weeks now and I'm still coughing up mucus and have been told I have infection in the base of my lungs. I couldn't say if the mucus was clear or had blood in it as I'd been swallowing it.
Avatar m tn I have all the symptoms of pneumonia. The xray came back as either pneumonia or lung cancer. Small mass found on lower left lung. Treating me for pneumonia. I will have repeat xray possible cat scan. Asking in advance. How often is this found? Can pneumonia look like lung cancer? Day two of medication and I do feel better and fever broke. I still have pains from my cough and still expereince the sweaty, hot and cold bouts but feel better despite general aches and pains.
Avatar m tn I was diagnosed and treated for COPD/Restrictive Lung Disease for over ten years, is it possible that whatever caused the Pneumonia also caused the bloodstream infection that resulted in replacing my heart valve, and can this all be connected to COPD/Restrictive Lung Disease?
Avatar n tn Given that it is now nearly 4 months since the bout of pneumonia, you deserve further diagnostic evaluation by a lung specialist. If the signs are truly localized to one lung, the one that had the pneumonia and especially if a current x-ray fails to demonstrate complete resolution, the lung specialist will probably suggest that he/she perform bronchoscopy and/or a CT scan of the lungs to determine the reason for this lingering problem.
Avatar n tn The DR. took an x ray which showed a bronchectic infection in my right lung. I was put on 14 days of antibodics which took away the cough and green phlem that I always have. I have been off the antibodics for a week now and I still have the pain, my cough is coming back, but thats expected. I have a CT Scan scheduled for next week. What could the pain be caused from that an X Ray would not have seen?
Avatar f tn What comes to mind with your son’s history of pneumonia in the same spot is that there may be an abnormality of that specific part of your son’s lung, either congenital or acquired. There are a number each type, not common but also not rare. The congenital are usually the result of some type of anatomical abnormality.
Avatar m tn Consider PTB infection, both lungs, cannot exclude concurrent left lung pneumonia. Left upper lung partial volume loss.
Avatar f tn The "Z" pack had a reasonably good history, but is inactivated by magnesium, which is a main componant of Nexium. They often forget to mention that. Bacterial infections are characterized by fever and yellow pus in the lung. There is often a long period of what is called a "twitchy" lung after an infection. If the alveoli are plugged the heart rate will naturally increase to maintain a unit volume of oxygen. Try an epectorant such as guenefesen.
7900821 tn?1395192104 Lung cancer can predispose one to pneumonia but in that case the pneumonia would recur in the same place in your lung each time. In addition it is quite unlikely that the radiologist would mistake lung cancer for pneumonia. That still leaves the question of why you should have recurrent pneumonia, unanswered and that is a question that will require further investigation.
539156 tn?1281818356 thought recurrence of lung cancer, in her other lung...luckily, turned out to be a lobular pneumonia...you know it is bad when one is happy to have pneumonia!! Beats the alternative...
Avatar n tn Hello, Pneumonia is an inflammatory illness of the lung. When an infection develops, there is an inflammation of the air passages beyond the windpipe. Part of our immune response results in the formation of mucus and catarrh, which takes a couple of weeks to clear. If the attacking bacteria or virus is particularly aggressive, or we are run down and immuno-suppressed, the bug may multiply rapidly to invade a whole area of lung tissue.
Avatar f tn I am 59 yrs old and have had pneumonia 3 times in last 7 months. I have had pneumonia many many times since I was born .Have been told many years ago that my lungs are scarred from this. Each time i go to my doctor he says I have bacterial infection adn treats me with Levaquinn for 7 days(500mg).Had an xray done reclty and now he wants me to see a lung specialist saying I need to find out why my immune system is weakened.
Avatar f tn He immediately started the conversation by saying that I might have lung cancer and we should schedule a lung biopsy right away even though he admitted he had yet to see the Xray (he based his decision on reading my chart). I wasn't even worried about lung cancer after the first doctor told me I had pneumonia! I told this doctor what the first doctor had said about pneumonia and TB and he then scoffed at the idea of having TB as TB is rare in our area.
Avatar f tn The development of more symptoms, in the face of antibiotic therapy, is worrisome as is the “side pain” which I assume to be pleurisy and suggests that this infection may fall into the category of complicated pneumonia. In this circumstance you should definitely request careful reevaluation by your doctor or his designate to include at a minimum a repeat chest X-ray, a complete blood count and culture of your sputum.
Avatar f tn m having a hard time finding much information about how a MRSA throat infection is treated, however. I did read on drugs.com that pneumonia caused by staph should be treated for 7-10 days with Azithromycin, with the first two days by IV.. and I am worried that it's spread to his lung (which he says is hurting).. so still concerned that 4 days isn't enough. I need to read a bit more and get info from him about the dosage he's on. Thanks again for your answer!
Avatar n tn Took Buddy to a different vet. Turns out it's not pneumonia. He has lung cancer.
