pneumonia or swine flu

How important is it to get the flu and/or pneumonia vaccine, being that I have heart failure. I just heard about the recent death in Washington where the individual had a heart condition, pneumonia and swine flu. I was recently diagnosed with CHF in January, so all this is still very new to me.

If pneumonia, is this a new pneumonia, a pneumonia condition caused by the flu virus itself, or standard pneumonia(s)? If a standard pneumonia, will a pneumonia shot five years ago give any protection, and/or would one now give any protection? Also, will Tamiflu from 2004 still work?

I never bother with the flu shots, but I did get the one for pneumonia. It's a one-timer. As for swine flu, what you don't hear in the news (because it doesn't sell ads) is that swine flue is less deadly than the usual flu, which isn't particularly deadly anyway. Reliable information on swine flu is available from the Centers for Disease Control. They offer a weekly bulletin. It will confirm what I say here.

Do you think I would be strong enough for the swine flu (H1N1) vaccine, or should I wait until I have made a full recovery? Thanks.

I got swine flu on July 3rd 2009, my temperture was 103 went to the hospital they put me in isolation for 2 weeks, my oxygen was 61, it was horrible could not breath, I am not a smoker that probably save me from alot more suffering, but the flu gave me an pneumonia and nodules and infiltration in both lungs, the doctor tells me now I have boop, I wish the swine flu vaccine was available before I got sick but it was'nt, I was one of the first to have swine flu at this hospital, I hear now the

I know I'll get the regular flu shot and probably the swine flu shot too. The flu can be dangerous in pregnancy. I too plan to talk to my OB next visit. I remember several deaths last year from the swine flu!

I've read that the H1N1 (Swine Flu) virus causes a lot of body aches and pains, but if it's only in your chest, I'd be willing to bet it's pneumonia. Pneumonia always hurts deep inside.

They took XRAYS right off but while waiting for results they did A LOT of bloodwork and tests including a test for swine flu where they had to swab my nose - THAT hurt soooooo much I about passed out from crying so hard from it and not being able to breathe. When it was confirmed I had pnuemonia they gave me a heavy dose of antibiotics and pain killer that helped me sleep. I was in the hospital for 3 days and off work a week. Its insane how much worse illnesses are when we're pregnant.

I have just recovered from a serious case of pneumonia ( swine flu I think ) after returning from china, but do not have the swab results back yet . blood was taken at the hospital and the doctor said that various tests will be carried out . My question is 1. Are the symptoms of Swine flu pneumonia similar to ARS ? 2. will the Labs test for HIV in a regular set of blood tests ?

I'm taking the usual ones, handwashing,hand sanitizers, and I carry alcohol wipes for foriegn survaces. I'm not sure I'm taking the vaccine if and when it shows up though , not so sure I trust it. Let's all weigh in on swine flue avoidance especialy the vaccine.

My 5 year old son got it at the beginning of September. It's one nasty bug from what I can see. He had a temperature and dry cough. We took him in to the ER and they confirmed it was flu (doc said it was too early for any other type flu and that it was Swine flu. He said that was what they were seeing). 2 days later we took him back to the ER alarmed because we could not get his temperature down.

Hello everyone,6 weeks ago I had swine flu but I haven't really recovered I was wondering if anyone can help. These are the symptoms what I have at the moment. First of all my chest/throat is tight and im getting alot of asthma attacks (every day for past 6 wks at night and not had asthma like this for 10+ yrs) On top of my asthma I am coughing to the point of bringing up up a clear sticky mucus( roughly a handful each time).

Where to start? Are you guys really that frightened of the flu? Here's the thing about this flu -- quite the contrary of what's being talked about here. Those in Mexico who have been infected are young with quite strong immune systems, not weakened immune systems. So there's no evidence at this point that extreme immune system strengthening will help. Second, it's not really flu season anymore, so it's likely not to be that bad until next fall, with the next flu season.

Good idea to check with your MD on your risk and whether the Pneumovax vaccine should be taken. It is administered every 5 to 10 years and not annually. I have other risk factors besides Hep C (hopefully it is history for good) so I remind my doctor every 5 years that it is time.

That is truly a nothing disease that only kills those about to kick off anyway. (I caught it. It is nothing.) And as for the swine flu, so far it is less virulent than the ordinary flu. There have been more cases of flu this summer, but the same mortality rate. How do I know? I get bulletins from the Centers for Disease Control.
