pneumonia

1205142 tn?1265689562 The specialist can test for any underlying conditions that may be aggravating his asthma. Also he can then get the right asthma treatment in order to control his asthma symptoms.
Avatar n tn Bacterial or viral lung infection can precipitate asthma with wheezing in a person genetically predisposed to asthma. Treatment of the presumed asthma, aside from treatment of the infectious pneumonia, is appropriate. So, this could be asthma, superimposed on pneumonia. Your son could have whooping cough, despite immunization against it. If his fever and sweating with clammy skin has subsided, it is probably a sign that the antibiotic therapy has been effective and the pneumonia is clearing.
377012 tn?1283965435 my real question was supposed to be how can u tell if someone has pneumonia? is there any signs/symptoms other than breathing difficulties! or how could i tell if he has fluid in his lungs!???
Avatar f tn One might suspect that you have underlying asthma and that when you get a viral infection each year, it triggers pneumonia –like symptoms. I would suggest getting a pulmonary function test while you are sick to see if this is, indeed, asthma. If this is not the case, another possible reason is that the local immune system in your lungs is not protecting you from the infection. This is usually an antibody problem and can be checked with a blood test.
Avatar f tn You definately have Asthma and first, pneumonia takes time to heal. With pneumonia and after treatment, in order to feel better, you will feel worse, because it is a serious, potentially life threatening infection in your lung or worse, both lungs. You will be coughing and spiting out infected phlem or mucus. Your breathing will improve over time, so make sure to take your medication, prednisone is the best when taken properly and under a physicians care.
Avatar n tn Complications of pneumonia include pleural effusion, empyema, abscess, bacteremia, and/or sepsis. Pneumonia may leave residual atelectasis, scarring, pneumatocele, and/or cavity. Pneumonia can exacerbate chronic conditions such as emphysema, asthma, or congestive heart failure.
Avatar n tn After a week and a half I saw the doctor, was diagnosed with both sinusitis and bronchitis and it appeared my asthma was in control, this was a Friday. (I have had asthma my entire life and at the first signs of a sniffle and some tightness I immediately start a prednisone taper and Xopenex nebulizer). I was prescribed azithromycin and told to continue with my xopenex and prednisone. I also took cough syrup, sudafed and motrin.
Avatar n tn I might have worded that funny about "asthma can lead to pneumonia but not the other way around". Pneumonia can also antagonize asthma if the person already has asthma, but pneumonia doesn't actually cause asthma.
Avatar n tn , are not typical of asthma. These symptoms are much more suggestive of incompletely resolved pneumonia. A lung infection can trigger asthma but the symptoms of asthma are never limited to one lung, and failure of pneumonia to resolve always warrants further investigation. You should have another follow-up x-ray, now. The prescription of Symbicort® (budesonide/formoterol fumarate dehydrate) Inhalation Aerosol does not mean you have asthma.
Avatar n tn I have asthma and 4 years ago I had pneumonia year after year. Than I started getting the pneumonia vaccine. I had no side effects from it expect no pneumonia.

Avatar f tn It is also likely that she continues to have bronchitis and/or asthma, the asthma having been brought on by the infectious disease of her lungs. In this circumstance, the asthma may or may not persist on its own and the apparent response to ventolin is encouraging. It is very unlikely that her lungs would have been permanently damaged, by either the infection (pneumonia) or by the antibiotic treatment.
Avatar m tn , which is compatible with the fact that I carried on doing what I did in everyday life - which may have lingered on (as it remained untreated), causing asthma and/or possibly chronic bronchitis/COPD? Overwhelming mucus hypersecretion during the attack and very persistent dyspnea afterwards seem to point more towards chronic bronchitis/COPD? Follow-up PFT showed the inhaler had very little effect, only pushing FEV1 up from 82 to 85%.
Avatar n tn fingertips or lips blue? is he doing breathing treatments?
Avatar f tn I'm trying to understand what is wrong with my sister...she has Asthma also Empysemia. She hasn't been well for a couple of weeks & her Dr daid she had a chest infection. Last week she was rushed into hospital, she could hardly breathe, put her on oxygen etc but it didn't help much. Had an xray, they said she didnt have a chest infection. Then a CT Scan, they said she did have infection.
5195620 tn?1364978700 I just want to know whether the pus is the result of asthma or I should consider the other possibilities such as pleural effusion, empyema , pneumonia, lung abscess and so on...????
Avatar m tn I have only recently begun having regular asthma issues that are now being treated by a Pulmonologist. I have had exercise induced asthma issues for years, it has now turned into daily occurrences with or without exercise. Since my lungs are already compromised, I have been advised to take a flu shot this year. I have never done so before and would like your opinions on either getting or not getting a flu shot.
1100598 tn?1413127426 I have asthma. In October, I developed an upper respiratory infection that caused swollen lymph nodes in my neck and an ear infection/sore throat, and later on a cough. The cough has hung on since then. I have had two chest x-rays, which have come back negative. My doctor put me on a course of prednisone, which did nothing. The cough brings up a foaming white phlegm, and sometimes causes heart palpitations.
Avatar f tn My pulse ox is 84 and in 5ltrs of oxygen have pneumonia copd and asthma what should i do
1232362 tn?1333135406 s probably not a good idea to have cats if you have asthma or other lung diseases
Avatar f tn You need to see and asthma specialist - either a pulmonologist or an allergist. Personally, I prefer an allergist because they can also treat the allergy triggers. I does sound like asthma is a possibility. A chest x-ray is useless in diagnosing asthma. It can show trapped air that may be indicative of asthma, but other conditions result in trapped air as well. Feel better and God bless.
Avatar n tn When I was 12, I started having trouble breathing after, and sometimes during exercise. I had pneumonia when I was 6 and was misdiagnosed as having asthma. I used an inhaler for quite a long time. Is this somehow connected to my breathing problems? I don't think its stress, because I'm not stressed at all. Or at least, I don't feel stressed. I haven't gone to see a doctor yet. Should I see a doctor about this?
Avatar m tn Could be allergies, yes once you have had pneumonia you will have scarring ..it wont affect you, check out online for environmental allergies .
Avatar f tn There are a lot weird viruses this year that hang on and have symptoms that come and go. If you get a fever and/or cough or if you feel a sharp pain when you breath in, or yellow or green sputum then revisit your doctor. Sorry I can't be help at this point.
1366536 tn?1278076273 Have you ever been a smoker? If so, do you still smoke? History of asthma or pneumonia? Chemical exposures at work?... I would love to offer some suggestions, but I need more info to work on. Thank you.
Avatar n tn I have asthma and had been coughing a good bit and felt something in my chest so went to my asthma Dr and I was told on Junuary 19th that I have pneumonia after having an x-ray done. They put me on Biaxen and on the 21st had me go for blood work. On the 23 tests showed that I had a drug induced hepatitis from what they thought was the Biaxen. They admitted me to the hospital for these two things that day. I was released on the 25th.
Avatar n tn I still have a cough, and went to a walk in today, and the doctor thought I might have bronchitis or pneumonia. I usually take prednisone for my breathing difficulties. Will this help with the possible broc/pne? She suggested 5 20mg. a day for 7 days. Has anyone had an experience like this? I am leaving on a cruise Sunday, and do not want to be sick. If you can help, I would appreciate it.
Avatar f tn t want to have to do a breathing treatment after every workout or use a inhaler. Or if I do have to use a inhaler, I want to know why...if its asthma, etc. I keep going to the same clinic, but different doctors and it is always the same. It clears up for awhile then comes back..... Recently I have been having night cough attacks where I can't stop coughing, where it sometimes makes me puke. That has also caused my chest to be very sore...
