Common Questions and Answers about Pneumonia nursing measures

pneumonia

Avatar n tn ve encountered a case in which a 5-day old puppy was brought in the clinic with hemoptysis, I concluded that it was aspiration pneumonia because the puppy was only been nursed by the owner... We immediately administered antibiotics and wasn't able to put on IV fluids due to the small size of the puppy, we tried administering oral fluids, but it doesn't work well.... after an hour, the puppy died and coughed a lot of blood....
Avatar n tn Am not a doctor, but this sounds like pneumonia. I use to work in a nursing home and seen people with this problem..u need the hospital...please go straight away...
Avatar f tn I also said that I did not understand why we could not wait a week or two and take another Xray to see if there were changes...to see if the spot was the pneumonia. He quickly said that pneumonia takes a good 6 weeks to clear from your lungs and I should get another lung picture in 6 weeks. He did not seemed concerned at all about cancer. Or at least he did not say he was. The final doctor I saw was the regular MD who released me from the hospital.
Avatar n tn diagnosed with septic shock due to bilateral pneumonia with complications of a right sided pleural effusion. We almost lost her but luckily the doctor drained enough fluid to help her breath on her own again. After 5 days in icu she was placed on peds...the next day the fluids came back and she was placed on a chest tube for over a week. On November 10 the last x-ray showed the fluid was gone...so i thought...they removed her tube and sent her home the same da.
Avatar f tn My family and I are at a loss. My dad had his aortic valve replaced (elective/scheduled) on 12/15/22. The Dr. said he lost a lot of blood and they had trouble controlling his blood pressure during the surgery. He was never extubated after the surgery, never followed commands. They did a CT scan 4 days later, that's when it was discovered he had a stroke. Later that week he had a trach and g-tube put in.
Avatar f tn I know ed is right about this....you carry this, you don't get rid of it. It lies dormant in your system. Nursing homes are rampant with it. There was a time that Dr.'s weren't supposed to admit residents to nursing homes if they were carriers. Hospitals hardly ever test any more for it because it is so rampant. There is even crossover from the animal population. I know because my daughter, a Registered Vet Tech, got it from the animal surgical center where she works.
Avatar f tn My husband was diagnosed with pneumonia last week and not getting better so a CT was ordered. Results show substernal goiter on left due to pulmonary nodule inubsternal left lower pole of thyroid. Nodule measures 3.2x3cm in another area it is called a hypodense nodule and is measured at 3x3.7cm he is scheduled for ultrasound Thursday but I would like clarification on pulmonary nodule. I thought that was a lung nodule and don't understand it being in thyroid.
Avatar m tn My father is 79 years old, he was admitted to the hospital with pneumonia, upon exams they discovered he had a couple of arteries blocked. I think they said 40% blockage in one and not sure of the blockage in the other one, not sure what arteries are blocked. The cardiologist is recommending Bypass surgery, all the information I have read states that blockage of this type can usually be treated with medication.
Avatar f tn I live in the US of A and am thinking about enrolling into a nursing program and becoming a nurse. Anyone know if someone who has hepatitis B can enroll in such program and become a nurse? I e-mailed someone from the nursing department and this is her response: "Our requirements from our clinical agencies state that students must be free of infectious disease.
Avatar m tn ll my dad had lacunar stroke on right side of brain Oct 17 2013 . He is paralyzed on left side. He was walking with walker nov 2 2013 but nov 27 he got pneumonia and his heart got irregular. He had a critical troponin result that day. Now he has a half inch bed sore and he is kinda giving up. Avatar n tn It would be best to check with the doctor/surgeon to rule out pneumonia or pulmonary embolism.
Avatar n tn In American medicine the rate and rhythym are often the only measures taken note off.
Avatar f tn It will measure how much air you can inhale and blow out with your best effort and breathing normal. It also measures how fast you can exhale. COPD shows a decreased speed of exhalation (it can be a very small difference). It essentially means your lungs are slightly over inflated. Because of the overinflation, your elastic recoil of your lungs will be decreased. Elastic recoil refers to the state your lungs return to as you exhale with normal breathing.
Avatar f tn My father had a brain stem stroke five days ago. The doctors told me it was very bad from the beginning. He had a blood clot and it is still there. We chose not to have a thrombectomy done to remove the clot because it had a 90 percent failure rate and seemed very risky...yet I wish we had done it. My father has very low response. He can hold our hands (firm grip) and moves his eyebrows when you say his name but that is about it. he is pretty much unconscious.
672586 tn?1280933658 My father is 91 1/2. He has Normal Pressure Hydrocephalus with a shunt, and apparently he also has some degree of Alzheimer's Disease. At this point he is completely immobile, and the caregivers in the nursing home say he's getting weaker, can no longer stand by himself even while holding on for support because his legs give out. Recently he started breathing heavily and sounding congested. An X-ray ruled out pneumonia, and he has been on lasix for a few weeks.
Avatar f tn I found one of my 1 day old puppys, lifeless this morning after her mom had layed on her, it hadn't been to long before. I began rubbing her vigorously, swinging her down as though trying to bring her to life after a c-section. She coughed up milk, thank goodness she was alive!! Milk came out her mouth and nose, I cleared it the best I could. Now almost 12 hrs later, you can't even tell it happened. She's nursing, sleeping, acts the same as all the rest of her siblings.
Avatar f tn He also took her off of her lasix, because this contributed to kidney failure. He would only release her to a nursing home and would not write an order to resume the blood thinner or the lasix. We were told that without the blood thinner she would develop blood clots around the valve and it would either stop working all together causing a heart attack or it would throw clots causing strokes and this could cause death, paralysis or a coma like state for years.
Avatar n tn thats why when delivering if they start to see muconeum(spelling) or suspect it they right awaytake ectra measures to make sure they dont inhale an of it cause like said above it can ruin lungs, cause pneumonia and infections and stuff

Avatar f tn 12 months ago I made an emergency trip back east to have my elderly parents placed in a nursing home - they hade been living in their house but my mom had alzheimers and my dad parkinsons. My dad had an accident and had to be put in the hospital and that is when the drs.said he could not go back home - it was a blessing in disguise because I had been trying to get him to agree to leave the house.
Avatar f tn or should i wait it out, i do not have any insurance. I am 27, and a full time nursing student, so I am use to long hours at the computer and reading books. I was worried about menigitis but without a fever I feel that I would be wasting money to see a Doctor, but I dont want it to get worse it that is what it is.
Avatar f tn My 82 yr old grandmother was rushed to er room 22 days ago - she was in a nursing home because of diabetes which will go from 40 to 500 in an instant and the beginning stages of dementia. She had a heart attack in the ambulance and it took 2 mins to revive her. She stayed in ICU on a ventilator for 11 days. During that time she had a chest tube put into her left lung for a hole that showed up and fluid retention.
147426 tn?1317265632 m somewhat distracted and awol right now because my 92 year old MIL has been in the hospital since Jan. 1 with pneumonia. She will be leaving the hospital and going into a nursing home - giving up her independent living. Lots of hand holding, doting, and otherwise being present with her is necessary right now, leaving me little time for the forum. I miss reading what all of you are up to and hope to be back more very soon.
1609219 tn?1298104935 t take that since I was still nursing my 1 year old. Not sure why I kept coming down with walking pneumonia... it is highly contagious though, and if you're around a lot of children, you can get it pretty easily.
