Common Questions and Answers about Pneumonia medication infant

pneumonia

Avatar m tn There is also an incubation period if you had viral pneumonia (the kind you catch). Bacterial pneumonia (the more dangerous one) you get as an infection after being sick before hand with a virus like a cold. It's a secondary infection to that. Hospitals are well known for being germy places. It has been a couple of days. How are you feeling now?
Avatar m tn It is more common in respiratory illness like viral infection or flu, pneumonia, ear infections, or sore throats. It can also be seen in simple viral fevers. Some medication is given to keep the fever under check. Usually the child bounces back to life in 5-6 days. Otherwise you may need to repeat blood tests.
Avatar n tn I have been diagnosed with everything from bronchitis to pneumonia for over a month. Steroids and Antibiotics have not worked. the doc said he noticed on my x ray that I have a diaphragmatic hernia. I asked him how I got that (I had never heard of it) and he said he suspects it was congenital. He said he looked at x ray from 5 years ago and it was also there. Two docs disputed at that time whether I had pneumonia or there was something else on the x ray.
Avatar f tn Hello, my daughter, age 3, had a bronchoscopy and CT scan after repeated bouts of pneumonia in the same spot, right middle lobe. This all started after a severe RSV/pneumonia hospitalization as an infant. Her CT scan was read as "mild bronchiectasis" in the right middle lobe, same spot as her atelectasis. We know for sure that her last bout of pneumonia in march never fully cleared, b/c we did X-rays every 3 months. So she's had this atelectasis spot for quite awhile now.
Avatar m tn You son was just diagnosed with pneumonia but consistently complains that his feet hurt. He's on antibiotics and all and drinking well. I'm just worried about him saying his feet always hurt. He's a 3 year old boy. Any suggestions or help?
Avatar n tn Well, you will probably never know for sure. I think babies whose mothers were deficient in thyroid hormone tend to be smaller at birth and fail to develop as fast as their peers after birth. I doubt it would cause broken ribs.
Avatar f tn Is there anything you have tried for congestion of the sinus area I do remember being pregnant with my second child and I had pneumonia and took robitussin to help. What else can I use??
Avatar f tn A couple of months ago, after she had a bout with pneumonia (Reactive Airway Disease) and was on steroids for an extended time, we noticed my daughter had some dark hair growing on her pubic region, and we had the doctor check it out. He said it was "impressive" and sent us to have blood work done. Everything came back fine. Now, a couple months later, she just got over a bad cold that had her wheezing and back on albuterol and pulmicort via nebulizer.

Avatar f tn I am now 31 weeks pregnant and this morning, I was exposed to a person who has pneumonia. I went to her one-bedroom apartment and stayed at her bedroom for about half an hour. I came back to my office and did research, which tells me that if the person did not cough, it's probably okay. I don't think the person coughed while I was there but naturally, I am worried...Does anyone know anything about this? Should I call my OB and ask for a nurse to speak about this?
Avatar n tn 2) Does being tested under viral pneumonia antivirals, RSV antivirals, iv antibiotics or any other pneumonia medication can also give me a false negative? Thank you.

1577722 tn?1310624684 I cannot get her to take any medication. She is only 5 yrs old. I have even tried hiding meds in her drinks but she tastes a difference and refuses to drink it. I want her fever to go away before it gets too serious but how can I if she won't take the tylenol. So I figured if it didn't have a flavor that it would work. She doesn't even like the ones that taste like candy and grapes.
Avatar f tn Me and my girlfriend hand an intense moment where we both got in to smooches and oral sex to each other (no intercourses) and she is under medication for pneumonia from 10-15days so is there any chance to get affected by pneumonia or any other infection by her vaginal enzyme ?
Avatar f tn Hello, Hello Doctor, My baby boy is 8.5 months old now(Born on June 22, 2013). When he was 3 months old, he was diagnosed with CHD(Coronary Heart Disease) - ALCAPA syndrome(Anomalous origin of the left coronary artery from the pulmonary artery). Because of which he underwent an open heart surgery at his 3rd month itself(Sept 23, 2013) for a coronary replacement. So far he is doing well by God's grace and is no longer on any kind of cardiac medication.
Avatar n tn in the meanwhile, run some hot water in the bathroom and get it all steamy in there, take kitty in with you and by breathing in the warm steam it will help him breath a bit better, gently wipe his little nose with a warm cloth to keep the gunk out....you can also get some INFANT SALINE SPRAY from your pharmacy and give just very tiny tiny drops into his nostrils...be sure its the plain saline and not any decongestant of any kind!!!!! ask the pharmacist to show you the right one.
Avatar n tn Eight days ago I was diagnosed with pneumonia and given medication that made me very ill. I was told that it would take a few days for the meds to do thier job. On the sixth day, I was in real bad shape. I had sharp shooting pains in my back, right side under my ribs, muscle spasms, and shooting pains in my right shoulder. I could not walk, lay down, or sit with out pain .
Avatar n tn Will a patient see significant improvement on their PFT test after taking medication for a period of time. This was my orginal PFT test three weeks after having pneumonia and the second set of tests were performed two months afterwards. Do most people with COPD see this much of an improvement on their later PFT results or is there a possibility that maybe what I have is more asthma seen COPD? These were the results of my first test FVC ref 3.51 pre 2.74 78% post 3.

Avatar f tn Walking pneumonia can take a lot out of you (especially since it sounds like this pneumonia has been fairly resistant). The pneumonia may resolve with the doxycycline, but it can still take you a few weeks to feel better. I suggest that you take you medication as prescribed, get plenty of rest, drink lots of fluids and give yourself some time to heal. When you finish your doxycycline, be sure to see your doctor again so that he/she can make sure that the pneumonia is gone. Good luck.
Avatar f tn This bug is called Group B Streptococcus and often also lives in the vaginal area - prior to childbirth a high vaginal swab may be done by your obstetrician and if you are GBS positive, you will be given antibiotics to treat this because THEN the baby is in danger of contracting GBS pneumonia (a very nasty potentially lifethreatening problem) which the baby can catch during a vaginal delivery if the mother is GBS positive (on high vaginal swab). I hope this helps. It is a very good question.
898849 tn?1241811271 I read a recent newstory that stated that Swine flu can be potentially more lethal in people with heart disease because medications used to reduce fluid build up in their lungs will fail to work as effectively if they catch the flu, also the stress of trying to fight off a fever can be too much for their hearts. Cardiologists are recommending that patients with heart disease be among the first to receive the Swine Flu vaccine.
Avatar f tn Hi, even with breast milk the baby needs replacement thryoid hormone. This is urgent and very important for his normal physical and intellectual development. Lack of thyroid hormone in infancy causes severe mental retardation. His level will depend on his test results. You need to get him on meds asap, if he is not already. He will need regular testing also until his levels reach target. This would be in the upper half of the reference range for FT3 and FT4.
Avatar f tn Pneumonia is funky and doesn't always follow the classic path. My younger son had pneumonia and I had no idea because he wasn't coughing. He had fevers. On and off fevers. One day fever, stay home from school, fine. Then back to school, another phone call from school that he had a fever. Stay home the next day. Then back to school and ANOTHER call that he had a fever! That's when I took him to the doctors and he was diagnosed with pneumonia. No cough!!
Avatar m tn I have all the symptoms of pneumonia. The xray came back as either pneumonia or lung cancer. Small mass found on lower left lung. Treating me for pneumonia. I will have repeat xray possible cat scan. Asking in advance. How often is this found? Can pneumonia look like lung cancer? Day two of medication and I do feel better and fever broke. I still have pains from my cough and still expereince the sweaty, hot and cold bouts but feel better despite general aches and pains.
