Common Questions and Answers about Pneumonia lung injury

pneumonia

Avatar n tn My friend has been experiencing LUNG pain, coughing up blood and excessive sweating for three years now. The pain is felt every time he breathes and has increased in severity over this time frame, especially when he is resting or trying to sleep at night. He says he feels the pain in his back, on the left side. His skin still has its natural hue. He says he has NO chest pain and no pain in his arm or other extremities. He says it began after a head injury during a tennis match.
Avatar f tn I had pneumonia in my left lung 3 weeks ago which was very painful. I now have completed antibiotics but still have pain in my lower rib area that is very sharp when I yawn, cough, laugh or burp. This pain is not getting better. I had an ARNP tell me she does not hear any air movement in my lower lung. I'm curious What may be causing the pain. I never had it before the pneumonia and it doesn't seem to be going away.
Avatar m tn Her injury is to her right shoulder. She has atrophy in that area and it has impacted her lung function. Her doctor has never treated anything like this before. We did x rays and have had her on an antibiotic bc it seemed like the injury has caused pneumonia like symptoms. Abby is not in pain. She drags her front paw and will cough at times during the day. I am in search of treatment or a cure. Has anyone heard of a case like Abby's before.
7900821 tn?1395192104 Lung cancer can predispose one to pneumonia but in that case the pneumonia would recur in the same place in your lung each time. In addition it is quite unlikely that the radiologist would mistake lung cancer for pneumonia. That still leaves the question of why you should have recurrent pneumonia, unanswered and that is a question that will require further investigation.
Avatar n tn Took Buddy to a different vet. Turns out it's not pneumonia. He has lung cancer.
Avatar n tn I have a history of repeated lung collapses as a child (I am now 54) as well as pneumonia. Had 12 hospitlizations in five years the last when I was 11 years old. I was also told I had a mild heart attack at that time due to the repeated strain on my heart. In January last year, I had atypical pneumonia and was hospitalized for three days. I also have lost two uncles to lung cancer; one smoked the other did not.
Avatar f tn However, your description of feeling pressure on your chest and the difficulty breathing - it would seem to be related to your lungs - lung infiltrates often feel like that. Pneumonia for instance. However, it could also be that an injury to your ribs or muscles has made it difficult to breath because of the pain. How long has this been going on? Do you have a cough? If so, is it productive? (bring up mucous) Have you had any respiratory problems in the recent past? A cold? Fever?

5601163 tn?1370701672 Could be residual changes from the pneumonia -- many times the xray takes longer to completely resolve than the symptoms, even after a course of antibiotics. Sometimes, pneumonia develops in response to mild airway blockage from a mass or tumor, so if they saw something (even small or subtle), they probably just want a CT to make sure it's not something like that.
1618318 tn?1318196283 I have swallowing disorders that put me at risk for aspiration pneumonia. Are there any tests that can be done to differentiate the type of pneumonia? I have had several xrays done on my chest and was put on antibiotics.
Avatar f tn I ave just been diagnosed with pneumonia. Will this leave me with permanent lung damage. I feel very short of breath.
Avatar n tn Pneumonia is a very serious lung infection that is caused by several different types of bacteria or viruses. Since you got well and then got sick again, you may either have a resistant strain, or have picked up a secondary infection. Yellow phlegm with a clear x-ray sounds like bronchitis. Either way, you need to see a pulmonary doctor to prescribe a different antibiotic to treat this new infection. Be sure to get lots of rest and drink plenty of fluids.
Avatar m tn Several courses of antibiotics later and X rays, the pneumonia has gone but left some marks on the lung; scarring according to the doctors. Despite being able to cycle and run ok, I am still not feeling right and still have catargh on my lungs which is fighting to stay put. The worst is just not feeling that my head is connected, almost like I continually have had a glass of wine! Anyone else felt like this after pneumonia? I am an asthmatic although controlled perfectly by ventolin etc.
Avatar m tn I have all the symptoms of pneumonia. The xray came back as either pneumonia or lung cancer. Small mass found on lower left lung. Treating me for pneumonia. I will have repeat xray possible cat scan. Asking in advance. How often is this found? Can pneumonia look like lung cancer? Day two of medication and I do feel better and fever broke. I still have pains from my cough and still expereince the sweaty, hot and cold bouts but feel better despite general aches and pains.
Avatar f tn Have you ever had a shot to keep you from getting pneumonia? I used to have pneumonia at least once a year, but not anymore. It's been 10 years now. Also COPD can cause pleurisy, among other things. See a doctor who specializes in lung probems!
Avatar n tn Given that it is now nearly 4 months since the bout of pneumonia, you deserve further diagnostic evaluation by a lung specialist. If the signs are truly localized to one lung, the one that had the pneumonia and especially if a current x-ray fails to demonstrate complete resolution, the lung specialist will probably suggest that he/she perform bronchoscopy and/or a CT scan of the lungs to determine the reason for this lingering problem.
Avatar f tn If you still have symptoms of pneumonia, please see a lung specialist - a Pulmonologist. They will order a CT of the lungs to look closer within the soft tissues and ask them to order Lung Function Testing to see if you are breathing adequately and have good lung capacity. Most Drs can also check the amount of oxygen in your blood at any given time with a plastic clip that goes on our finger. You want to see 96% or higher.
Avatar m tn You have good reasons to be concerned about your sister and her multiple health problems. Pain associated with her pneumonia should have eased as her pneumonia resolved. Pain at this time is not normal. The recurrence of cough and pain along with the abnormal X-ray findings of “scarring” and “a hole” in her lung suggest otherwise; that is to say that hers is what we would call complicated pneumonia. You ask, if she needs to be admitted to a hospital.
Avatar f tn I'm hoping someone can help me. I had community acquired pneumonia at Christmas 15 for the first time which required 2 nights hospital stay. Prior to this if not had any real health issues, ex social smoker ie maybe 2/3 cigarettes every couple of weeks for about 8 years until about 13 months ago. 7 months later I got pneumonia again (still recovering now 3 weeks later).
Avatar n tn Primary spontaneous pneumothorax (lung collapse) can occur without known lung disease. The cause is unknown. It happens a lot more in thin males than others. Secondary pneumothorax occurs due to disease. The most common is COPD, but pneumonia can also cause it. So it is possible that the pneumonia led to the lung collapse, but it's not due to negligence unless they refused to treat him for the pneumonia when you brought him in.
Avatar m tn sounds like a bad chest or lung infection.. if you had pneumonia?? you would have high fever also and would be a very sick person.. its very dangerous.. GO to doctors either way for an antibiotic..
Avatar m tn Is it possible that lung scarring can be caused by varicella pneumonia? I have had x rays, CT scan, bronchoscopy and no-one has yet been able to teel me the cause of the scarring. I have had x rays many years apart and the scar tissue still exists. I am not ill, have no symptoms yet radiologists suopect PTB, Tuberculosis or lung adenopathy.
Avatar f tn He immediately started the conversation by saying that I might have lung cancer and we should schedule a lung biopsy right away even though he admitted he had yet to see the Xray (he based his decision on reading my chart). I wasn't even worried about lung cancer after the first doctor told me I had pneumonia! I told this doctor what the first doctor had said about pneumonia and TB and he then scoffed at the idea of having TB as TB is rare in our area.
Avatar f tn I am 59 yrs old and have had pneumonia 3 times in last 7 months. I have had pneumonia many many times since I was born .Have been told many years ago that my lungs are scarred from this. Each time i go to my doctor he says I have bacterial infection adn treats me with Levaquinn for 7 days(500mg).Had an xray done reclty and now he wants me to see a lung specialist saying I need to find out why my immune system is weakened.
Avatar f tn You may have pneumonia. Is the pain in one lung? You would need to get an xray of your lungs to check for it or you may have bronchitis. Go to your doctor because medications are needed for pneumonia. Most doctors give meds for bronchitis too, but it is not needed.
