Two of the times we were sent home and told to rest and keep up on fluids. The third visit he was finally given a chest XRay which confirmed severe pneumonia. He has been in the ICU for 3 days now and has rapidly deteriorated. The prognosis is lesions/ nodules surrounding the heart that need to be removed which they are unable to do until his pneumonia clears up. There is an apparent Staph infection of one of the nodules inside a ventricle of the heart.
m very upset that hepatitis b vaccination was not recommendation when he was a baby. (1978) He remembered being hospitalized at the age of 7 with pneumonia. Could this have been a misdiagnosis of pneumonia instead of hepatitis b? One shot of I think the globulin injection (i think that is what it is called) would have cured him from this illness if it was diagnosed and his shot record evaluated in 1990 would have told them that he does not have teh hepatitis b vaccine.
Anyway, there are different reasons we get pneumonia. People think of bacterial or viral. We can also have chemical or traumatic. And pneumonia is not like bronchitis. my father died in 1976 at age 34, he was in very good health, not over weight or any other problems that i know of. he did have pneumonia twice within a few months of his death. he was very sick 3 days before he died and had beed to 3 different hospitals and they all sent him home. on his autopsy report it said that he died of myocardio infarction. after all these years i still can't believe this. how could a healthy young man die of a heart attack.

I'm a 32 year old male in Canada. I'm 185lb,5'9". I've had a dull chest pain on my left side right under my armpit area and around to the center of the chesty for the past 4 months. I've been ignoring it as it was such a dull pain I'd almost call it a sensation instead of pain.
So I had the flu last week as did my whole family. I was hit hard, very weak, major headache, neck and back ache, fever. Never developed much coughing but felt a bit phlegm.
That's terrible! In no way does young and pregnant mean incapable of holding your own. I'm currently writing about this and trying to get as many side's on this topic as possible. E 6x days ago with sever stomach pains. Since she has been in she has been diagnosed with a severe bowel infection, pneumonia and from yesterday her heart rate has dropped to 42. Today she woke up and her heart rate is now 36/38- I understand this is VERY dangerous. The doctors have absolutely NO idea what could be causing it. Apparently its not her medication (antibiotics/ steroids) its not a heart murmur or anything else obvious, she also feels very dizzy and has chest pains- she is ONLY 27!
I am guessing the fluid mentioned in the MRI is fluid between the lung and the walls of the thoracic cage which is an effusion. While fluid in the airways can lead to effusions, not all effusions are due to fluid in the airways.
For people without any symptoms at all, then the suspicion would be along the lines of chronic, slow growing infections such as tuberculosis. Another possibility is immune-mediated diseases. Another possibility of course is cancer.
Double pneumonia together with CHF and bradycardia is rough. If you have a good hospital, she'll be treated with strong antibiotics, lasix, probably a healthy dose of steroids and they should give her meds to help her heart rate, or possible put a pacer in, if it doesn't come up on its own. She is young but very sick right now. Keep a positive attitude and be there. I have seen this many times on the unit. They fixed all the ones I saw!!!!!!
I'd only say that a few people have posted on the mental health forum for Dr. Gould about the elderly being put on anti-depressants without any permission at all, causing the patient to go nuts. I think these homes vary widely in quality and probably depending on the physician in charge. Most nurses I've known think docs are a bit reckless with the meds. But it's hard to tell.

I was in the hospital from Jan. 17-23 Pneumonia in my Left "lobular pneumonia" here we are now on Feb 20, 2022 and my left rib cage feels like someone hit me hard there.. but my 02 is in the mid 90%.. but it really hurts to cough sneeze as you say burp.. which sucks because I am supposed to be trying to cough up remnants of the phlegm, But coughing is painful so tend to try to suppress it.. I have a Lung cancer screen CT this Tues the 22..
Two weekends ago I woke up with the usual backache associated with pneumonia. I get it twice a year, so on Monday I called my doctor and went in. I was not seen by the doctor but was given prescriptions for the pneumonia and an order to get x-rays done. On Thursday I got the call that the x-rays did not show pneumonia and to stop taking the medication. On Friday I was worse so I went to the ER. That's where they told me I dislocated my ribs from coughing due to the pneumonia.....
