Avatar n tn t get vaccine even if it is known the mother is infected Us has few very very good hospitals but many are so low as third world countries on some subjects like this, vaccination should be mandatory in children as in most european country, it is expensive but you can eradicate hbv complitely this way.In our country if you have hbv infected mother and don't make vaccine to the baby you can sue hospital for a lot of money but since this is mandatory it cannot happen.
Avatar f tn In January I thought I was getting a cold and for three days took Zycam. The cold symptoms went away except for the cough. I later was diagnosed with bronchitis and after a couple of weeks and chest xray was told I had pneumonia. I had a CT Scan last year which showed a lesion. I was told it was scar tissue. During the last several months I have had 4 chest xrays and 2 more CT Scans showing new spots on my right lung.
Avatar f tn There can be honest disagreement among experts about the management of RML atelectasis, bronchiectasis and recurrent pneumonia, despite appropriate, intense medical treatment, in young children with a normal immune system. There is general agreement, however that, when localized bronchiectasis, especially of the RML, becomes refractory, more severe or resistant to medical management, lobar resection may be warranted.
Avatar f tn How old is your son? Are these baby teeth or adult teeth? I wouldn't pull any adult teeth unless absolutely necessary. Yes, the wisdom teeth could potentially fill in that space but there are complications with that. As the wisdom teeth come in, they don't move sideways into the space but rather, they tilt in and lean in sideways which causes problems with the jaw bone.
Avatar f tn (in children) In adults, this type of thing would show up as an Axis II personality disorder. In children, particularly 4 (very young for this kind of diagnosis, ADD/ADHD as well - and I would hold off on the meds until a second or third opinion is obtained..cheaper than treatment I'm sure...) ALSO - (I have personal experience in this - my 5 yr old girl had wild tantrums, and I was very worried,, and took her to different drs...
Avatar f tn Hi, I've been reading your post and researching a bit to see if I can be of help, as your child sounds quite ill in his lower respiratory tract. The RSV can be a serious virus in young children. Were you told much about it? Did the pulmonologist (hopefully you're seeing a specialist!) explain why he/she thinks your son was having these difficulties? Usually a full term baby - even one with asthma doesn't have so many other respiratory disorders.
Avatar n tn Sorry to hear about your children. Generally people do not develop myopia until they are into adulthood. Myopia in young children is an indication of some underlying health condition. I know your opthamologist said there is nothing wrong. I would get a second or third opinion - including one from a natural/alternative practioner. Myopia in very young children is generally caused by inability of the eye muscles to focus for reasons that are not well understood if understood at all.
Avatar n tn I think my child has herpes in her throat and she's coughing like crazy I don't know what to do and I'm very worried I'm taking her to the doctor Monday I'm going to tell them that she needs to go to ENT and infectious disease and start acyclovir because she's done for 5 days and it comes right back I'm so worried
454286 tn?1205883067 He was taking Flow Vent 2 x a day and Albuterol inhaler 4x a day during a flare up. The kicker in all this is it all started in July of 2007 after a bout of Croup. He recovered from that but after that every time he got a cold he would cough till he vomited. And in November he was never able to recover from it. He literally coughed from November till March. Everytime the coughs would get bad is when he would vomit. He actually figured out a way to cough without it hurting him so much.
Avatar f tn Two of the times we were sent home and told to rest and keep up on fluids. The third visit he was finally given a chest XRay which confirmed severe pneumonia. He has been in the ICU for 3 days now and has rapidly deteriorated. The prognosis is lesions/ nodules surrounding the heart that need to be removed which they are unable to do until his pneumonia clears up. There is an apparent Staph infection of one of the nodules inside a ventricle of the heart.
Avatar f tn They are kind of like Occupational Therapists that see the child weekly in all different environments, they use Cognitive Behavioural Therapy type methods for children, but they also are great support to the family aswell, acting as advocates and can refer to other people if necessary. My step son has mental health issues and we got the support above through the Paediatrician.

Avatar n tn I have a 7 year old daughter with HCM, with a very thick septum (4.0 on MRI) and no symptoms--due to her septum size, she's recommended for an ICD--but we find that's very rare in young children and that she would need it through her abdomen. It is her only risk factor at this time-although a big one.... Any thoughts from others? Experiences? Docs/places that do the most of these WITH HCM folks? Thanks!
Avatar m tn I asked my doctor if I could get the pneumonia shot this year since I struggled so much last year with my second bout of Pneumonia. He said I should only get the shot if I am 65 years old or diabetic. I do not want to struggle this year like I did last year. Am I too young? Am I not eligible? Is it a health risk for me to get this shot?
Avatar f tn Yes you are right to question his diagnosis. Especially in someone so young. This is not typical asthma, if it is then he has very severe asthma that is difficult to control. However, I would certainly enquire about a lung condition called cystic fibrosis. It is easy to test for, by measuring the salt content on his skin due to sweat. Go to a good pulmonary specialist and ask for this test. It is non-invasive and easy to do. Plus it would rule in or out this serious condition.
Avatar m tn t know if this is kidney infection. I had this when I was young, and I was hospitalized. Is your daughter in the hospital? If so, doctors shoud be able to determine this.
Avatar n tn Because once lung damage sets in, then the person is set up for life long lung disease. And for young children who have much smaller airways, which may heal themselves, but they will be left with "small" lungs. I've been told by my specialist that the larger your lungs are for your size, then more extra capacity you can afford to lose due to damage. Your prognosis over the long term is better.
Avatar f tn I had the flu (a long with my husband and children) we were all really sick for about 5 days. Everyone got over it except for me. I don't feel like it is the flu now though. I have a horrible cough. So 5 days ago I went to the Urgent Care and Dr said probably pneumonia. She gave me antibiotics, prednisone, and albuterol. It has been 5 days. The fevers are just higher. They dont even get better with ibuprofen. I can't function. I have small kids. I feel to sick to drive to the doctor.
