Common Questions and Answers about Pneumonia in dogs contagious

pneumonia

Avatar f tn Pneumonia is not contagious. But it is usually a result of some other kinda bug thats not treated resulting in that it causes fluid on the lungs, which takes a while to turn into pneumonia. If you arnt having symptoms of the original chest cold, or flu your fine.
Avatar f tn Yes “walking pneumonia” is contagious. The development of more symptoms, in the face of antibiotic therapy, is worrisome as is the “side pain” which I assume to be pleurisy and suggests that this infection may fall into the category of complicated pneumonia. In this circumstance you should definitely request careful reevaluation by your doctor or his designate to include at a minimum a repeat chest X-ray, a complete blood count and culture of your sputum.
973741 tn?1342342773 I love my pooch and hate to hear of this illness spreading around and they think it is going to get worse. They think it is bacterial spreading from dog to dog so the recommendation is no doggie day care, kennels or socializing with their fur pals right now. Hard to do but could save your dog. Dogs get sick very quickly and may develop fatal pneumonia from this. It's no joke. Thoughts? Are you worried?
Avatar m tn A woman was in the hospital with pneumonia a couple of days prior to her giving me oral sex. Am assuming they put her on meds. with her being on meds what is the possibility she was still contagious, which she never told me she had it. For a couple of days My urine flow was frequent, like peeing thru a straw and small white discharge. I have none of those symptoms now but am still concerned.
Avatar f tn For example, the bacteria that causes pneumonia called streptococcus pneumonia is a normal bacteria residing in all our throats. Since we all don't get pneumonia from it, the determining factor is not the virulence of the bacteria. The bacteria multiplies without restraint only when our immune systems become compromised.
Avatar f tn Took my kitty to the vet after she ate my dogs pain pill and I had to induce vomiting under vet recommendation. Some of the fluids got in lungs and it caused walking pneumonia.
Avatar m tn something I have is highly contagious and it is causing identical symptoms in everyone I know and also there friends and families and so on ive been tracking this and everyone has complaints of lower back weakness and pain in muscles ,vision and hearing problems .one person has suddenly died in this group from some form of pneumonia they said it was viral and that it would have killed a 24 yr old the man who died was 58 and in good health .
Avatar m tn These complications can include dehydration, ear or sinus infections, and bacterial or viral pneumonia, which can fill the air sacs in the lungs with pus or fluid, making it difficult to breathe and depriving older patients of adequate oxygen. In some cases, pneumonia may be asymptomatic, but it is still contagious if it results from a bacterial or viral infection.
Avatar f tn Some things like strep that you treat with antibiotics are contagious and antibiotics work within 48 hours (can be around people, no problem). But in general, lots of things that antibiotics are given for are not contagious such as a sinus infection. That is bacterial in your sinuses--- you can't really give that bacteria to someone. BUT, the reason why most people have sinus infections, bronchitis, etc.
Avatar n tn Thus, aerosolization of the infectious agent through coughing is not usually an issue. Bear in mind that the inflammation may, in some cases, result from tuberculosis. In such a case there is danger of contagion. The important factor is the nature of the biological agent causing the inflammation. For a certain answer consult the infectious disease specialist treating you or your loved one.
Avatar f tn I am not a doctor but I have Googled your question and this is what I found: "Pneumonia in children and adults is caused by bacteria, virus, fungi or protozoa. Out of these, bacteria are the most common microorganisms, that have been found to cause pneumonia. These microorganisms usually enter the body through mouth, nose and eyes, and then infect the lungs, especially the air sacs or alveoli of the lungs. Pneumonia is more commonly found to affect the lower lobes of the lungs.
Avatar f tn i had the same thing back in june.. they thought i had pneumonia..ibut didnt..but it isnt contagious..the cough is part of the bron..
Avatar m tn Scabies are highly contagious. I heard that dogs can get scabies too. So i was worried i gave my dog scabies. Since my dogs loves to sleep on my bed. But you said Human scabies can not be spread to dogs right? So i shouldn't worried about it.
Avatar n tn I would take your dog to be checked by the vet. If it is his breathing which is congested, it is possible for dogs to develop pneumonia, and you wouldn't necessarily be able to tell if that was the case. If it's only his nose, then there has to be a reason, and it's best the vet checks him. I would do that before you start trying to treat him yourself.
Avatar n tn This carpet was installed during a time with the older two were smokers. The younger occupant moved in 13 years ago. The home has also had dogs, cat, birds. Outside of asbestos what causes fibers in the lungs? Where do I begin in finding out the cause of these illness?
Avatar n tn The correct term is "parvo", which is short for Canine Parvo Virus. Your dog is VERY contagious, so please don't allow him around any other dogs. He needs to see a vet immediately or he will likely die. Please, please take him. http://www.canineparvovirus.
Avatar f tn I'm sick but I don't know if Its something serious.iv been drinking tea and taking cough drops My mom has pneumonia But I don't know if I have it too or if I just have a cold. Is it safe to be sick while pregnant.
Avatar m tn Is cellulitis cause by staph contagious? My uncle had it in form of a boil. We think he may have spread it cause another is forming. Is cellulitis contagious if there is a boil not just a rash? What if I sat where he did and placed my arm with a scab where he placed his boil arm? How so is it contagious? I read it's not because it is in the deeper skin layer but i mean...he had a boil that is at the upper layer. Could he have been misdiagnosed?
Avatar n tn s a burrowing mite that gets into the skin. Demodectic mange is a mite that is on all dogs, but some dogs are more succeptable to becoming a host, usually due to an immune system problem, high stress, or malnutrition. If either type of mange goes untreated, it can lead to severe skin infection. Both forms of mange are treatable, but the treatments are long. My dog is recovering from demodectic mange right now, and he will be on Ivomec for 30-40 days.

Avatar n tn Thanks, yllas. what did your doctor say - is it curable? is it contagious? I don't recall having pneumonia or whooping cough before. my brother had bronchopneumonia when he was 3 years. but he seems to be in perfect health, in fact his xray result last year was clear. I really worried that his might affect my pre employment. I already signed my probationary contract but unfavorable medical results may be grounds for them to revoke my contract.
Avatar n tn It is very contagious, but if he has them in his genital area, then unless a family member comes into contact with that area, they are fine. Molluscum is one of the few stds that can be spread with non-sexual contact. He might get it at the gym, etc. However, if its on his genital area, then he probably got it from sex. Check out www.ashastd.org for more info on molluscum.
Avatar f tn The insects live part of their lifecycles in the hair follicles and in the top layers of the skin in burrows. The most common kinds in dogs and cats are demodex and scabies. Scabies cause extreme itching and can be transmitted. Demodex mites are not contagious, usually. Both mites can be normal inhabitants of the skin in very low numbers. They don't cause problems unless they are in very high numbers.
Avatar n tn a month later she was in the hospital with pneumonia, blood in urine, and overall weakness and confusion. On day 3 of hospital stay, the results came back from a sputum sample pin poinint MRSA. We were required to enter her room with gloves, mask, and gown on any visits. At times a dr would come in, listen to her lungs, without any of the precautions taken. If this is so infectious, then why do some have to "suit up" and other's don't.
