Common Questions and Answers about Pneumonia in dogs

pneumonia

973741 tn?1342342773 I love my pooch and hate to hear of this illness spreading around and they think it is going to get worse. They think it is bacterial spreading from dog to dog so the recommendation is no doggie day care, kennels or socializing with their fur pals right now. Hard to do but could save your dog. Dogs get sick very quickly and may develop fatal pneumonia from this. It's no joke. Thoughts? Are you worried?
Avatar f tn Took my kitty to the vet after she ate my dogs pain pill and I had to induce vomiting under vet recommendation. Some of the fluids got in lungs and it caused walking pneumonia.
Avatar n tn I would take your dog to be checked by the vet. If it is his breathing which is congested, it is possible for dogs to develop pneumonia, and you wouldn't necessarily be able to tell if that was the case. If it's only his nose, then there has to be a reason, and it's best the vet checks him. I would do that before you start trying to treat him yourself.
Avatar n tn This carpet was installed during a time with the older two were smokers. The younger occupant moved in 13 years ago. The home has also had dogs, cat, birds. Outside of asbestos what causes fibers in the lungs? Where do I begin in finding out the cause of these illness?
Avatar f tn I found one of my 1 day old puppys, lifeless this morning after her mom had layed on her, it hadn't been to long before. I began rubbing her vigorously, swinging her down as though trying to bring her to life after a c-section. She coughed up milk, thank goodness she was alive!! Milk came out her mouth and nose, I cleared it the best I could. Now almost 12 hrs later, you can't even tell it happened. She's nursing, sleeping, acts the same as all the rest of her siblings.

135456 tn?1301437624 Last weekend I wound up in the ER with ecruciating pain in my right side. My chest x-ray showed pneumonia. The antibiotic is clearing it up nicely but I wish I had seen my doctor much earlier - could have saved myself all that drama and pain.
Avatar f tn Because my dog interacts with other dogs a lot, when he developed a "cough" I immediately took him to the vet. He had no fever, is eating and drinking normally and his activity level is normal - he doesn't at all act like a sick dog. I have kept him away from other dogs to avoid getting them sick. The vet diagnosed him with kennel cough and put him on Doxycycline 100 mg - he takes 1 1/2 pills twice a day. He started them on Tuesday. He has also had a Bordetella vaccine.
Avatar n tn We go to the vet everyday for the last 3 days for him to get his injection of antibiotics and a 45 mins session in a nebulizer with a bronchdilator spray. I also steam up the bathroom and we go in there for 15 mins sessions twice a day to help him clear out the lungs. He has his own room which is kept warm without draft and we give him a lot of love and affection.
Avatar n tn Could be kennel cough if she was around other dogs. This can be serious if left go. Call your vet tuesday. They can give her a shot.

Avatar n tn Two weekends ago I woke up with the usual backache associated with pneumonia. I get it twice a year, so on Monday I called my doctor and went in. I was not seen by the doctor but was given prescriptions for the pneumonia and an order to get x-rays done. On Thursday I got the call that the x-rays did not show pneumonia and to stop taking the medication. On Friday I was worse so I went to the ER. That's where they told me I dislocated my ribs from coughing due to the pneumonia.....
Avatar f tn Achest x-ray showed a shadow on his bronchial tube that the doctor said might be pneumonia. While he was in the hospital he had an abcessed tooth which was removed with several others. He came home yesterday and seemed a little better. Today he is not eating again. Any advice?
Avatar n tn s freezing cold one day and two days later everyone is walking around in shorts again. Dogs can get sick just as people can, and a tiny dog like a Yorkie, especially one as tiny as 4 pounds, can't be ill for very long before her whole body is affected and just says "I've had enough!
Avatar n tn It's really impossible to say what is wrong with your dog, however, there are many things it MIGHT be. The wheezing may be a simple allergy issue. Dogs suffer from seasonal allergies the same way humans do, and with Spring coming on they can get runny noses that got further into a bacterial infection. The loss of appetite and lethargy has me concerned as even dogs who are very ill will usually at least try to eat a little bit.
Avatar m tn Has your dog been checked for the common diseases associated with megaesophagus? These diseases are: Hypothyroid, Myasthenia gravis, and Addison's Disease. If your dog does not have these diseases than he probably has idiopathic megaesophagus which means that the cause can't be found. Megaesophagus usually occurs in large breed dogs. It is uncommon for it to occur in Yorkshire terrier's but is not unheard of.
Avatar f tn Dr in ER thought she had Pulmonary Embolism. Her Dr saw her in hospital today and said she has pneumonia and caused her to have blood coming up when she coughed.
Avatar n tn In addition to what Mark has said, try some alternative food that is usually more gentle on a dog's stomach, such as small amounts of cooked chicken (on its own or mixed with a small amount of cooked white rice). While this is not a cure for whatever is ailing him, it will give him a little energy. If he's not eating, it's no surprise there are no bowel movements, so don't worry about that for now.
Avatar f tn We have dogs that live outside (my husband and father in laws hunting dogs) and we had to bring them inside because its way too cold even in their insulated dog houses..
Avatar m tn First time, the doctor noted traces of pneumonia in his chest and gave him Amox for 10 days. He was fine for another 10 days and got it back. This time, he got better only with IV antibiotics. He was ok for another 10 months with on and off colds, but this time he developed pneumonia again and had to be treated with oral antibiotics. I want to know if there is anyway to help prevent reccurence of pneumonia? Will there be any damage to his lungs because of reccurence of pneumonia?
Avatar m tn Hello, I'm hoping someone can help me... I have two dogs, they are both 11 yrs old and have been healthy their entire lives. About a month ago, one of them began coughing- a dry hacking cough that comes on suddenly or after what seems like some difficulty breathing. She is a jack russell terrier normally around 20lbs and has gained about 3.5 lbs in the past couple months, which I'm not sure has anything to do with her cough.
8550901 tn?1400740690 it is always best to take a new rescue dog to a vet right when you adopt them. Dogs get sick in the shelters, my dog had pneumonia and worms when we first adopted her. Not pooping not normal, dogs normally get the runs when they are anxious. Talk to a vet a the food, it could be making him constipated. Dry food is best for dogs.

Avatar n tn My son had been diagnosed with pneumonia 4 times in the past four months, as well as bronchiolitis in between. He has been treated with Rocephin, Azithromycin, and Amoxil. He has breathing treatments 4 times a day (pulmicort & xopenex) has had 2 episodes of cyanosis, and been hospitalized for low oxygen satuation, wheezing etc. His pediatrician tells me I shouldn't panic and that he has asthma. He is only 13 mos old!
