Common Questions and Answers about Pneumonia in children

pneumonia

Avatar f tn There can be honest disagreement among experts about the management of RML atelectasis, bronchiectasis and recurrent pneumonia, despite appropriate, intense medical treatment, in young children with a normal immune system. There is general agreement, however that, when localized bronchiectasis, especially of the RML, becomes refractory, more severe or resistant to medical management, lobar resection may be warranted.
Avatar f tn I probably should have put this on the autism forum, but since I know most every one here, and we all have more in common I felt more comfortable just venting here. I am sorry for not keeping in touch the past few weeks. first week pneumonia, second approved for chemo, third no chemo, forth no chem. I dont even want to know what the ca125 is since my numbers are always running pretty high, anyway I am sorry.
Avatar f tn I had the flu (a long with my husband and children) we were all really sick for about 5 days. Everyone got over it except for me. I don't feel like it is the flu now though. I have a horrible cough. So 5 days ago I went to the Urgent Care and Dr said probably pneumonia. She gave me antibiotics, prednisone, and albuterol. It has been 5 days. The fevers are just higher. They dont even get better with ibuprofen. I can't function. I have small kids. I feel to sick to drive to the doctor.
Avatar f tn I am not a doctor but I have Googled your question and this is what I found: "Pneumonia in children and adults is caused by bacteria, virus, fungi or protozoa. Out of these, bacteria are the most common microorganisms, that have been found to cause pneumonia. These microorganisms usually enter the body through mouth, nose and eyes, and then infect the lungs, especially the air sacs or alveoli of the lungs. Pneumonia is more commonly found to affect the lower lobes of the lungs.
Avatar n tn on a nebulizer 4 times a day. Had a family vacation in NC with 5 children, spouses and 14 grandchildren coming up in June which I couldn't imagine missing. Family internist gave me a 3 month shot of steroids(never had that before) and Pulmonoligist gave me a vacation pack of steroid pills and antibiotic in case I caught something...I did not have to use the vacation pack and the shot was absolutely miraculous! For the the first time in a year and a half, I felt like my old self!
Avatar f tn I had pneumonia while pregnant with my daughter. i was put on a safe antibiotic and cough syrup and was fine in no time. You will be fine and so will your baby. Don't worry! Just get lots of rest and keep hydrated.
Avatar f tn My eleven year old daughter suffers from chronic cough, chronic pneumonia. She has every test known to man ( I think) and a few surgeries, both exploratory and for sinus surgery. Despite being treated by a team of doctors, no one can pinpoint a reason for the continuing pneumoias. She has been tested and treated for reflux, asthma, sinusitis, immunology. She is becoming resistant to antibiotics and we are very frightened for her.
Avatar n tn Many local hospitals have asthma clinics and respiratory therapists that can help. I am not sure what your physicians have already told you, but some suggestions to control asthma are raise the mattress slightly at the head level. Remove all stuffed animals from the room. Remove all carpeting. Don't use heavy drapery in the room. Don't open windows, don't ever allow pets in the room and put a humidifier in the room.

Avatar n tn Two weekends ago I woke up with the usual backache associated with pneumonia. I get it twice a year, so on Monday I called my doctor and went in. I was not seen by the doctor but was given prescriptions for the pneumonia and an order to get x-rays done. On Thursday I got the call that the x-rays did not show pneumonia and to stop taking the medication. On Friday I was worse so I went to the ER. That's where they told me I dislocated my ribs from coughing due to the pneumonia.....
633670 tn?1389223411 It will take time pneumonia is nasty especially in children . Plenty of fluids, nourishing foods, build up his immune system, Cereals , rice, some protein, fish, chicken, pasta fruits, and beans , cheese, yoghort.
1321692 tn?1304298071 It last between two to three weeks and worsens at night. I started to get it after I had a bad case of the pneumonia in the fourth grade. I am now 19. I know that whopping cough is more common in children, but to me it sounds more like whopping cough than the pneumonia and bronchitis that I have been diagnosed with. Does it sound like pneumonia, bronchitis, whopping cough, or something else? Thank you for your help.
Avatar f tn t have any symptoms in May. I never even had a cold so I had no idea about the pneumonia... I am a healthy female with no other health problems. Please help. This discussion is related to Pneumonia that won't go away.
377012 tn?1283965435 unfortunately RSV can take up to 8 weeks before it is released from your system hence why he had it twice in 2 months....the reason i thought it could be pneumonia is because of the way is chest moves when he breathes and because RSV can cause pneumonia to be set up in your system since your system is low especially in toddlers!
Avatar f tn Hi, I've been reading your post and researching a bit to see if I can be of help, as your child sounds quite ill in his lower respiratory tract. The RSV can be a serious virus in young children. Were you told much about it? Did the pulmonologist (hopefully you're seeing a specialist!) explain why he/she thinks your son was having these difficulties? Usually a full term baby - even one with asthma doesn't have so many other respiratory disorders.
Avatar f tn Dr in ER thought she had Pulmonary Embolism. Her Dr saw her in hospital today and said she has pneumonia and caused her to have blood coming up when she coughed.
Avatar m tn First time, the doctor noted traces of pneumonia in his chest and gave him Amox for 10 days. He was fine for another 10 days and got it back. This time, he got better only with IV antibiotics. He was ok for another 10 months with on and off colds, but this time he developed pneumonia again and had to be treated with oral antibiotics. I want to know if there is anyway to help prevent reccurence of pneumonia? Will there be any damage to his lungs because of reccurence of pneumonia?
Avatar m tn Both my 6 and 8 yr old children were just diagnosed with bronchomalacia yesterday after undergoing elective bronchoscopy's. everything I have read says this condition is usually outgrown by 3 yrs or so. They were currently being treated for asthma both starting at the onset of age 2 after terrible coughing attacks. We decided to do the bronch's because their asthma was just not improving. When they are healthy they are fine. No activity restrictions etc.
Avatar m tn I asked my doctor if I could get the pneumonia shot this year since I struggled so much last year with my second bout of Pneumonia. He said I should only get the shot if I am 65 years old or diabetic. I do not want to struggle this year like I did last year. Am I too young? Am I not eligible? Is it a health risk for me to get this shot?
Avatar n tn t get vaccine even if it is known the mother is infected Us has few very very good hospitals but many are so low as third world countries on some subjects like this, vaccination should be mandatory in children as in most european country, it is expensive but you can eradicate hbv complitely this way.In our country if you have hbv infected mother and don't make vaccine to the baby you can sue hospital for a lot of money but since this is mandatory it cannot happen.
Avatar m tn m a 25 year old mother of 2. My biggest fear in leaving this earth all too soon. My children need me. I need to be with them. I am so scared and I have been told to follow up with my normal doc. So i call and of course i cant be worked in until this afternoon. And she said that the doctor will read my ct scan and see what he wants to order up. *Does normal doctors know how to read those too??* I don't smoke so how could i possibly have anything wrong with my lungs!!

Avatar f tn My husband is a twenty-six-year-old middle school teacher and when he came home on Friday after school he was pale, a bad headache, had clammy skin, body aches and chest congestion. Since then it's only worsened: he can't breathe full breaths, he doesn't cough a lot but when he does he gets chest pains & usually clear mucus, but sometimes it's green. He's going back & forth between a fever of just over 100 and shaking chills where he can't seem to get warm.
