Pneumonia in an infant

Common Questions and Answers about Pneumonia in an infant

pneumonia

Avatar m tn Just coughing is not mean you would get pneumonia. When did the cough start? There is also an incubation period if you had viral pneumonia (the kind you catch). Bacterial pneumonia (the more dangerous one) you get as an infection after being sick before hand with a virus like a cold. It's a secondary infection to that. Hospitals are well known for being germy places. It has been a couple of days. How are you feeling now?
Avatar n tn I have always had shortness of breath and breathing issues since I was an infant. Could this be the cause? I eat healthy, am at a healthy weight, and work out. I have also always been plagued by digestive issues since childhood which have gotten much worse over time. Any advice? I made an appt. with a gastroenterologist. Is this the person most likely to be of assistance for what I am describing?
Avatar n tn An enlarged heart in a baby is bnot a good sign and I'm sure you are being sent to see a pediatric cardiologist at this point, The heart can be enlarged due to thin walls on the heart or thickened walls. What does the cardiologist tell you your baby's problem is?
Avatar m tn I agree both twins need to be seen by the pediatrician. Snoring in an infant or child is never normal and definitely needs to be addressed. He probably should have a chest X-ray to rule out a pneumonia. On twin #2, the medication he was given - did it contain codeine or anything along that lines? If so, that could be adding to his already present constipation problems. Bright blood on the stool is usually caused by something like hemorrhoids or like mammo said, tearing while straining.
Avatar f tn A couple of months ago, after she had a bout with pneumonia (Reactive Airway Disease) and was on steroids for an extended time, we noticed my daughter had some dark hair growing on her pubic region, and we had the doctor check it out. He said it was "impressive" and sent us to have blood work done. Everything came back fine. Now, a couple months later, she just got over a bad cold that had her wheezing and back on albuterol and pulmicort via nebulizer.
Avatar f tn I am now 31 weeks pregnant and this morning, I was exposed to a person who has pneumonia. I went to her one-bedroom apartment and stayed at her bedroom for about half an hour. I came back to my office and did research, which tells me that if the person did not cough, it's probably okay. I don't think the person coughed while I was there but naturally, I am worried...Does anyone know anything about this? Should I call my OB and ask for a nurse to speak about this?
Avatar n tn d like, you can read my journal article (My Thyroidless Daughter- The Joy of My Life) on my profile page to find out more about our experience now and in those early days when my daughter was an infant.
Avatar n tn s not appropriate. Talk to the doctor, the sooner the better, about all of this. Try also an infant probiotic, it might help with the stomach's ability to hold formula down.
Avatar f tn My son had it at 5 months old. We spent 6 days in the hospital. Lots of bugger sucking and breathing treatments and steriods.
Avatar f tn Pavan222 Are you male and she is female? What type of pneumonia does she have? It can be caused by a virus or bacteria. There are a few bacteria that can cause it too. If it is a virus and she gave you oral you can't get pneumonia. Kissing alone you can potentially get pneumonia if you are low in immunity. If she has been treated for several days you also have to take that into consideration. So I would ask her doctor about this. I doubt it.
Avatar n tn Two weekends ago I woke up with the usual backache associated with pneumonia. I get it twice a year, so on Monday I called my doctor and went in. I was not seen by the doctor but was given prescriptions for the pneumonia and an order to get x-rays done. On Thursday I got the call that the x-rays did not show pneumonia and to stop taking the medication. On Friday I was worse so I went to the ER. That's where they told me I dislocated my ribs from coughing due to the pneumonia.....
Avatar f tn What comes to mind with your son’s history of pneumonia in the same spot is that there may be an abnormality of that specific part of your son’s lung, either congenital or acquired. There are a number each type, not common but also not rare. The congenital are usually the result of some type of anatomical abnormality.
Avatar f tn My niece just spent three days in the hospital because of it because it almost gave her pneumonia and she is 7months old. She is laying beside me sleeping now and you can hear her rattle when she breathes :( get on it now before it gets worse!
Avatar m tn First time, the doctor noted traces of pneumonia in his chest and gave him Amox for 10 days. He was fine for another 10 days and got it back. This time, he got better only with IV antibiotics. He was ok for another 10 months with on and off colds, but this time he developed pneumonia again and had to be treated with oral antibiotics. I want to know if there is anyway to help prevent reccurence of pneumonia? Will there be any damage to his lungs because of reccurence of pneumonia?

Avatar f tn This bug is called Group B Streptococcus and often also lives in the vaginal area - prior to childbirth a high vaginal swab may be done by your obstetrician and if you are GBS positive, you will be given antibiotics to treat this because THEN the baby is in danger of contracting GBS pneumonia (a very nasty potentially lifethreatening problem) which the baby can catch during a vaginal delivery if the mother is GBS positive (on high vaginal swab). I hope this helps. It is a very good question.
1747462 tn?1311609047 It seems to me that if they have recordings of her heart beating so fast (even too fast for an infant), then a pediatric cardiologist needs to take a serious look. It may not be a dangerous life threatening problem but you need to know that for sure. When I was an infant my mom said she was afraid to go into my room at times because she would occasionally find me looking almost dead, rather blue/gray and lethargic. For years some doctor said I had epilepsy.
Avatar n tn My son had been diagnosed with pneumonia 4 times in the past four months, as well as bronchiolitis in between. He has been treated with Rocephin, Azithromycin, and Amoxil. He has breathing treatments 4 times a day (pulmicort & xopenex) has had 2 episodes of cyanosis, and been hospitalized for low oxygen satuation, wheezing etc. His pediatrician tells me I shouldn't panic and that he has asthma. He is only 13 mos old!
Avatar f tn I would imagine that your baby is in an infant carrier, right? Well the head is laying back as they are not upright. At least that was how my infant car seat was. So Mammo is right that if the head is back, then their airway would not be blocked. Both my babies would fall asleep in the infant carrier all the time and we let them sleep. They'd fall asleep in the car and we'd just bring the infant carrier in let them continue sleeping.
Avatar n tn After much hesitation and thought I am going to provide you with specific advice. Of course you should consult your physicians, who will undoubtedly disagree with me. You are entirely correct in viewing the mucus as the problem. The organism causing the trouble (Let's call it"Harvey") is living the good life in what is called a "biofilm". Harvey can exist in a Lugols solution (which kills every known bacteria)in one of these films.
