Common Questions and Answers about Pneumonia hives

pneumonia

Avatar m tn Once our pediatrician examined him she said the hives were from walking pneumonia. He is on the third day of antibiotics but hives are still appearing on his face. They go away within the hour without any treatment. Has anyone heard of this? Shouldn't the antibiotics be helping if the hives are because of the pneumonia or are the hives from something else?
Avatar f tn Hives (urticaria) and pneumonia are very rarely related. Hives typically are an allergic reaction to something you're picking up in your environment whether it be at home, at work or at the shops. The pneumonia was likely an incidental finding at the time. Keep an eye on your temperature and go to an emergency room if you spike a high fever or feel severely short of breath. Otherwise continue taking the antihistamines as prescribed.

Avatar m tn Dear all, I have just completed my 5th dose of interferon (180mg) and most unfortunately I have been diagnosed with pneumonia this morning. The respiratory doctor suspected that it is due to low WBC as a result of interferon treatment and so she ordered some blood tests (LFT, WBC etc) and the result will be available within these few days. The question is whether I should continue the interferon treatment when I am fighting the pneumonia. Your kind advice is very much appreciated.
Avatar n tn Thank you for the information now here's my story: Five years ago, I had a bad chest cold, the doctor's office was over booked by two hours and I coughed till I was blue. After that I developed slight asthema, I also went for dental work, which I overmedicated on baby asprin, Advil, etc., and wound up having an endoscopy done which resulted in a little reflux and small herina, after being on Previdcid went away.
Avatar f tn My 6 year old son was diagnosed with pneumonia the other day. His doctor prescribed Azithromycin to treat it. I gave him one 6 ml dose and 8 hours later, he broke out in a severe rash all over his legs and then it appeared on his arms within minutes. He was very itchy and in agony. I immediately took him to the ER and they told me that this rash was actually hives! The Dr.
Avatar f tn Hello, It looks like a viral exanthematous rash or hives due to viral rash. Take some antihistaminic like Benadryl or claritin. You can also apply calamine lotion on the rash. It will help in soothing the skin. A mild corticosteroid cream will also help. If the symptoms persist then please get an evaluation done form a dermatologist. Also get her examined from a pediatrician and get her cough and other chest symptoms evaluated because it can be a bacterial infection causing pneumonia as well.

Avatar f tn the whole time developing hives. I have had hives 80% of the time all over my body since then. I will occasionally have instances where my face (lips, eyes, ears), hands and feet all swell too. I go to Urgent Care and get steroids before it gets worse. I was finally told I have chronic urticaria and angioedema at the Emergency Room almost 2 months after the first instance and given an Epi-pen. The only allergy I knew of was to sulfa drugs (which I have not taken since I was 16).
Avatar m tn If that is correct, the course of your illness is consistent with what is called, Community Acquired Pneumonia (CAP -- pneumonia acquired when not hospitalized). There are many causes of pneumonia (bacteria, fungi, viruses, chemical or organic irritants) and, even with extensive bacteriologic testing the specific cause is often not determined. The information you have provided, including the imaging studies (X-ray and CT) provides no clues as to the cause of your pneumonia.
Avatar n tn My daughter was born a preemie and had pneumonia at birth She spent 2 weeks on a vent, but has not had any major problems since. We have noticed some unusual memory loss for several years. In school she does ok in math and spelling (subjects that are very repetitive). It takes her a while to learn a word or math fact, but once she gets it she has no problems. Her major problem is in the other subjects where she has to read something, remember it and be tested on it.
Avatar n tn I have been a very "sickly" person the last 20 years or so. Constant bouts of pneumonia and bronchitis as well as mystery hives and infections on even the smallest paper cut. After sinus surgery I developed a Pseudomonas aeruginosa infection that seems to have colonized in my sinus'. I have a great number of environmental allergies and have learned that I am allergic to Keflex and sulfa drugs/antibiotics.
Avatar n tn Many people with angioedema also have another condition called urticaria, which is also known as hives. This is a raised, red and itchy rash that appears on the skin. Angioedema is of four types allergic, idiopathic, drug induced and hereditary. So, Allergy testing may be worth looking into. Therapy is based on the cause. Anti histamines from the mainstay of therapy for the symptoms. Though short courses of steroids are given for more severe symptoms.
Avatar m tn For the past 2-3 years, ever since a bout of walking pneumonia, have had problems with very common (but problematic), non-specific problems like fatigue (sometimes mild, sometimes severe), muscle/joint aches and insomnia (which of course contributes to the fatigue). Over this period of time I've accumulated a growing list of symptoms, I've had a chronic, pretty bad case of hives for well over a year, and my aches have gotten worse- my calf muscles ache very badly at rest.
Avatar f tn Every week or two I have to make a new appointment. I started breaking out in hives on Christmas. This lasted 3 weeks. My allergy tests are inconclusive. They stopped and stayed away. Doctor said it was "probably" a virus and told me to wait it out.

Avatar f tn I have had migraines since i was in fourth grade, and I have always had a love/hate relationship with the sun and break out in hives/feel ill after spending time outside in the warmer months. Additionally I have been anemic for the last 10 years. My iron levels are lower limit of normal with taking 83mg elemental iron daily, but if I miss doses or stop taking it my levels tank. Ferritin was initially low (it was 2) but has also normalized with continued iron.
Avatar f tn I have had lots of inexplainable symptoms. I also get hives, and have yet to find out what is causing it and I may never find out. I am on copaxone but for some reason I never blame anything on it. I have not had a flare for a long time and my MS doc said my MS is stable. I had new MRI's done in April. I was dx in Feb 2008 and it has taken awhile to get to this point, It may not last forever but its good for now. But now I have COPD to deal with and pneumonia right now.
Avatar n tn Four years ago I had bronchitis and itchy hives within a week of each other. It started with a deep voice, then the hives, then the bronchitis. The bronchitis lasted a bit over a month (my doc gave me antibiotics to clear it up) and when the plugged ears was slow to resolve I asked a friend's dr over the phone for any advice and he said "I don't want to scare you but it sounds like HIV.

I was prescribed Robitussin with codeine to help me sleep, although all it really did was tire me slightly. After another week of feeling completely miserable I started to breath better, my nose dried out, and my cough produced less and less green mucus. Sleeping then was hard, but I was able to take my meds, settle down, sleep for about two hours, wake up again from coughing and repeat.
