Avatar f tn My question is, how much longer before he loses his ability to swallow? He has aspirated a few times, but no pneumonia, even though there is fluid in his lungs. I would appreciate any help anyone can give me, any time guidelines, though I know each case is different. I have children and a very stressful job and live far away, and it is hard to be there until close to his death. Thank you all so much.

Mine have been consistently rising each week and today, week 25, my AST=130 and ALT=124. My Hepa Dr said we would have to stop tx if they both reach 150. Avatar f tn My husband had flu and pneumonia April of 2017. Had xrays taken by his rheumatologist in Aug 2017 and there was a shadow on his lower right lobe where the pneumonia was. On the 6th of this month (Dec) a follow up xray was taken and two days after they called and said the radiologist recommended a no contrast ct scan. So (two days ago which would have been the 11th) we made an appointment to have it done on the 18th of Dec. Today they called and now want to do the contrast. What is going on?
Avatar f tn I am not a doctor but I have Googled your question and this is what I found: "Pneumonia in children and adults is caused by bacteria, virus, fungi or protozoa. Out of these, bacteria are the most common microorganisms, that have been found to cause pneumonia. These microorganisms usually enter the body through mouth, nose and eyes, and then infect the lungs, especially the air sacs or alveoli of the lungs. Pneumonia is more commonly found to affect the lower lobes of the lungs.
Avatar f tn My eleven year old daughter suffers from chronic cough, chronic pneumonia. She has every test known to man ( I think) and a few surgeries, both exploratory and for sinus surgery. Despite being treated by a team of doctors, no one can pinpoint a reason for the continuing pneumoias. She has been tested and treated for reflux, asthma, sinusitis, immunology. She is becoming resistant to antibiotics and we are very frightened for her.
Avatar n tn and a lack of air movement in my lower left lung. She diagnosed me with community acquired pneumonia. I was prescribed Robitussin with codeine to help me sleep, although all it really did was tire me slightly. After another week of feeling completely miserable I started to breath better, my nose dried out, and my cough produced less and less green mucus. Sleeping then was hard, but I was able to take my meds, settle down, sleep for about two hours, wake up again from coughing and repeat.

242516 tn?1368223905 m sure you have a friend who has the sniffles, fever, chills, aches and pains of a viral upper respiratory infection. This is different from a bacterial infection such as sinusitis, bronchitis, or pneumonia. A viral infection doesn't improve with antibiotics as these infections do. A virus hijacks your own body's healthy cells and uses it to reproduce and spread. A bacteria is its own living cell and multiplies and spreads on its own and is easier to destroy in that process.

Avatar f tn Obese children and adults and children and adults on anticonvulsant medications, glucocorticoids, antifungals such as ketoconazole, and medications for AIDS need at least 2 to 3 times more vitamin D for their age group to satisfy their body's vitamin D requirement," Dr. Holick reported.
Avatar f tn The reason I ask is that In October 2011, the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) released new clinical practice guidelines for the diagnosis, evaluation, and treatment of ADHD. It now does cover 4 year olds. However, "For preschool-aged children, evidence-based behavioral therapy alone is recommended as the first step toward treating ADHD symptoms and associated impairment." So even if meds are not given - the therapy is recommended.
Avatar f tn I had the flu (a long with my husband and children) we were all really sick for about 5 days. Everyone got over it except for me. I don't feel like it is the flu now though. They dont even get better with ibuprofen. I can't function. I have small kids. I feel to sick to drive to the doctor.

1321692 tn?1304298071 It last between two to three weeks and worsens at night. I started to get it after I had a bad case of the pneumonia in the fourth grade. I am now 19. I know that whopping cough is more common in children, but to me it sounds more like whopping cough than the pneumonia and bronchitis that I have been diagnosed with. Does it sound like pneumonia, bronchitis, whopping cough, or something else? Thank you for your help.
Avatar f tn Doctors "accidentally" discovered I had pneumonia when I went to the ER for a gall bladder attack in May. They heard rales. I had an elevated D-dimer but all other labs were ok so had CT scan which showed rll pneumonia. I had not symptoms at all. No fever, no cough, no abnormal labs (except the elevated d-dimer). I had a zpack and then another CT scan after 2 weeks. The pneumonia was still there and then there was also a small nodule.
Avatar f tn There can be honest disagreement among experts about the management of RML atelectasis, bronchiectasis and recurrent pneumonia, despite appropriate, intense medical treatment, in young children with a normal immune system. There is general agreement, however that, when localized bronchiectasis, especially of the RML, becomes refractory, more severe or resistant to medical management, lobar resection may be warranted.
