Pneumonia diagnosis signs and symptoms

Common Questions and Answers about Pneumonia diagnosis signs and symptoms

pneumonia

Avatar n tn Given that it is now nearly 4 months since the bout of pneumonia, you deserve further diagnostic evaluation by a lung specialist. If the signs are truly localized to one lung, the one that had the pneumonia and especially if a current x-ray fails to demonstrate complete resolution, the lung specialist will probably suggest that he/she perform bronchoscopy and/or a CT scan of the lungs to determine the reason for this lingering problem.
Avatar n tn He asked if I was sick before the pneumonia diagnosis and the answer is yes. I have had a lot of breathing problems, weight loss, bone pain, shrinking in height, weakness, and stomach problems also. I have also taken a ct scan and I am waiting on the results. Should I be worried and what other test can I ask for or specialitst should I see? I am currently seeing a lung specialist and ENT(for polyps and nasal blockage)Please give me some direction and questions that I should be asking!!!
17484539 tn?1580565249 I'm down with acute bronchitis which I get every 2-3 years and which normally lasts 1-2 weeks & then I'm symptom-free. i'm on a round of Levaquin 7 days) and prednisone short term (5 days) covid test negative and no pneumonia, however on the chest X-ray was written "signs of COPD changes." What the heck does that mean and how is COPD really diagnosed? I'm an ex-smoker, stopped in 1982.
Avatar n tn Are there any other signs or symptoms present? Chest x-ray, complete blood count and complete medical and physical examination is needed to help with the diagnosis. It would be best to see your doctor to rule out any differentials and to reach a complete diagnosis. Take care and regards.
1468105 tn?1287151463 The findings you describe are consistent with the diagnosis of pulmonary Histoplasmosis and, yes, the pneumonia your daughter had a year ago may have been a Histoplasma infection. In that case the current CT scan findings could be the residual of that pneumonia. Histoplasmosis is endemic in the entire Ohio river valley and beyond, in the Midwest. The diagnosis can be either strongly suggested or confirmed by serologic testing.
Avatar f tn i have been showing signs of pneumonia lately and also felt a small bum under my armpit but cannot see anything. what i want to know is can the axillary lymph node be linked to pneumonia because usually i hear it swells in the neck? i also was using doxycycline 100 mg and septra for chlamydia. its kinda strange how pneumonia just popped up a while after my chlamydia and cleared up. i am really freaking out im going for a test today.
Avatar f tn Anyway I saw the consultant at exactly 3 weeks after the pneumonia diagnosis and 3 different antibiotics (clarithromycin, co-amoxyclav and another one beginning with T - can't remember!) anyway I had an X-ray and the consultant has said there is an abnormality on my lung and I have a CT scan booked tomorrow and follow up with the consultant on Tuesday. So now I am really anxious and getting worried that I have lung cancer or something.
Avatar f tn t have the same signs and symptoms that men do. But as a general rule pain that is sharp and increases with palpatation and respiration is usually not cardiac. The only way to know for sure if it is cardiac versus non-cardiac at the minimum is an EKG. Also as I stated above if your having Shortness of Breath and it is new you should be seen. It is really easy to get pneumonia from not taking deep breaths.

Avatar f tn I have been sick since Thanksgiving 2015 and off work sick and on disability since December 23rd. Started with sinus and double ear infection. Doctor gave antibiotics but it came back. But by Christmas it was bronchitis and double ear infection. Back for more meds. By end of that week it was pneumonia. I was admitted to hospital on New Years Eve 2016. I was kept in hospital 6 days and contracted flu b while in there. More meds and they used "The Vest" on me to help with pneumonia.
Avatar n tn There could be two possibilities for chest pain, shortness of breath and infection. They are thromboembolism and pneumonia. Do you have any fever, cough with sputum? If yes then it could be pneumonia. An X-ray chest would help in making diagnosis. As already you are prone to embolism, pulmonary embolism could also be the cause for your present symptoms. Burning pain in the legs could be due to thrombophlebitis.
994239 tn?1321203620 The doctor took an xray and diagnosed me with pneumonia. I was given antibiotics and inhaler and told that I should start coughing up stuff in a couple of days, today is day# 3 I'm not coughing at all but the pain and discomfort with shortness in breath is unbelievable. now I feel like I have a ton of weight on my chest with pain I feel like I'm being chocked, still waiting to start coughing something out... The weird thing is that I get the chills but no high fever.
Avatar f tn m not getting any better and the worse thing was it become pneumonia and the doctor put me on zithromax for 7 days but unfortunately the fever is still there and I was confined in the hospital twice and I undergo bronchoscopy and thoracoscopy and the diagnosis was nonspecific interstitial pneumonia but still I have a fever and night sweat at night.
242516 tn?1368223905 The flu has passed epidemic rates in much of the country, and if you don't have a cold, I'm sure you have a friend who has the sniffles, fever, chills, aches and pains of a viral upper respiratory infection. This is different from a bacterial infection such as sinusitis, bronchitis, or pneumonia. A viral infection doesn't improve with antibiotics as these infections do. A virus hijacks your own body's healthy cells and uses it to reproduce and spread.

Avatar n tn t a specific diagnosis of what caused the pneumonia. Most pneumonia is infectious, and is most times caused by strep bacteria, so they throw antibiotics at it, and see how the patient responds, there are more aggressive atypical bacterial pneumonia that may require more aggressive treatment, also a persons age, and strength of their immune system is a major factor as well. But there are also viral, fungal, or less commonly parasitic causes of pneumonia.
Avatar m tn I have all the symptoms of pneumonia. The xray came back as either pneumonia or lung cancer. Small mass found on lower left lung. Treating me for pneumonia. I will have repeat xray possible cat scan. Asking in advance. How often is this found? Can pneumonia look like lung cancer? Day two of medication and I do feel better and fever broke. I still have pains from my cough and still expereince the sweaty, hot and cold bouts but feel better despite general aches and pains.
Avatar n tn If I was having warning signs of a heart attack would it keep coming and going all day long?? Severe shortness of breath a little nausea cannot take a deep breath then it goes away. Sometimes it lasts all day sometimes only a few minutes. I keep thinking i need to go to emergency then it goes away.
Avatar n tn You also need to wait until your child is cured from pneumonia as it can produce asth alike symptoms such as breathlessness and a cough. I personally have severe asthma and am currently suffering from pneumonia.
Avatar m tn Personally for me, before diagnosis my symptoms were tightness in my chest and coughing. Plus, there was some mucus as well. But, if these tests came back fine, then my opinion is you are fine as well. If you still are worried about the possiblity of some type lung problem, then discuss your concerns further with your doctor. Best of luck to you. Wish I had of aced my chest xray and breathing test....LOL. But, I am very happy for you.
Avatar f tn s not typical for the symptom of weakness to be subjective, MS symptoms are caused by brain and or spinal cord lesions which typically leave behind abnormal and measurable clinical signs (objective). MS would typically present with neurological symptoms down one side of the body......
Avatar n tn I was prescribed azithromycin and told to continue with my xopenex and prednisone. I also took cough syrup, sudafed and motrin. Saturday I was significantly worse and over the weekend it esciladed. My temperature would go from 96.2 to 100.5 and back down over a 30min period. Monday I went back to the doctor and she heard "crackling" and a lack of air movement in my lower left lung. She diagnosed me with community acquired pneumonia.
Avatar m tn She has recurrent pneumonia and gets it about every 3 months or so. She always ends up in the ER with problems breathing and then goes on a round of antibiotics, usually zpak and prednisone steroids. She will sometimes get a steriod inhaler to use along with her normal ventolin inhaler. She will gradually get better and be able to breath normal, only to have the symptoms return in a couple of months. Each time she shes a DR she gets different answers.
Avatar f tn Check at http://www.janis7hepc.com/ and go to the symptoms tab at the top of the page. Many people have no symptoms at all. Fatigue is such a common complaint that it is hard to know on what hook to correctly hang it.
Avatar f tn Hello It sounds like you have had a very challenging time. Your complex of symptoms is very broad and I'm certain that when you presented to the ED with a temperature of 104 you had an extensive battery of tests by your doctors. I doubt that I will be able to figure out exactly whats wrong and how to fix it in this communication Having said that, I agree with the plan to perform and MRI with and without contrast. This will assess your soft tissues as well as the veins, arteries and nerves.
