Avatar m tn The critical issue, therefore, is that data-based treatment guidelines in areas where those data are insufficient should not be stated in a way that might be considered restrictive, but should, instead, allow providers the flexibility to use the sound clinical judgment that they, having knowledge of each patient’s individual circumstances, are the most qualified to render.
Avatar m tn Diagnosis, management, and treatment of hepatitis C: An update (p 1335-1374) Marc G. Ghany, Doris B. Strader, David L. Thomas, Leonard B. Seeff It is written as a guide to the medical community. The article seems quite thorough and full of useful information. It brings together a great deal of research and discusses a wide range of topics including treatment of hard to treat groups and children. I suspect folks on this board will be making reference to it for some time to come.

Avatar n tn This needs to be investigated immediately by a pulmonologist since it could be serious. Management would depend on the diagnosis. Take care.
Avatar f tn Is there any other way of diagnosing Behcets syndrome other than a clinical diagnosis? Is there an objective test? My rheumatologist says it doesn't matter because the treatment plan would remain the same, Imuran, and I'm satisfied with the results of Imuran, but need I really go through life wondering and including in both my and my children's medical histories CLINICAL diagnosis of Behcets??
Avatar f tn Hello, my daughter, age 3, had a bronchoscopy and CT scan after repeated bouts of pneumonia in the same spot, right middle lobe. This all started after a severe RSV/pneumonia hospitalization as an infant. Her CT scan was read as "mild bronchiectasis" in the right middle lobe, same spot as her atelectasis. We know for sure that her last bout of pneumonia in march never fully cleared, b/c we did X-rays every 3 months. So she's had this atelectasis spot for quite awhile now.
547368 tn?1440541785 Another Community Leader in MedHelp shared an update with me on the CDC proposed Guidelines. Thank you so much! They share in our fight for better pain management.
Avatar m tn NICE has published a clinical guideline produced by the National Clinical Guideline Centre (NCGC) on the diagnosis and management of chronic hepatitis B. It aims to ensure the growing number of people with this potentially life-threatening disease are referred to a specialist and receive the right treatments." It is clear that Brits had stepped out, as they themself say, aiming to ensure that more hepatitis B people will receive the treatment...
Avatar f tn I caught pneumonia at the same time I thought i was exposed. It was really bad. i am still HIV NEGATIVE. I you are concerned about HIV then make sure you ask your doctor specifically for this test. If you don't they may not becasue of some ethical guidelines. 242516 tn?1368223905 m sure you have a friend who has the sniffles, fever, chills, aches and pains of a viral upper respiratory infection. This is different from a bacterial infection such as sinusitis, bronchitis, or pneumonia. A viral infection doesn't improve with antibiotics as these infections do. A virus hijacks your own body's healthy cells and uses it to reproduce and spread. A bacteria is its own living cell and multiplies and spreads on its own and is easier to destroy in that process.
Avatar f tn My question is are there any guidelines/protocol for stopping tx if your ALT/AST reaches 150 each even though you are UND? Mine have been consistently rising each week and today, week 25, my AST=130 and ALT=124. My Hepa Dr said we would have to stop tx if they both reach 150. I cannot find any information on this anywhere. So any help would be greatly appreciated!

Avatar n tn At one time, AIDS was diagnosed clinically, regardless of HIV test result -- and by that standard, it seems you have AIDS, especially if the diagnosis of pneumocystis pneumonia (PCP) is correct (but see comment below). Today, however, AIDS usually is not diagnosed unless and until an HIV infection is diagnosed as the cause of the immune dysfunction. So as far as I am concerned, the diagnosis of AIDS is questionable at best.
Avatar f tn With you being pregnant they have to go by any limitations the doctor set work wise for your pregancy unless its a almost total physical labor job then guidelines set limitations for medical reason (pregnancy one of them ) can be set and they have to follow them and they are being ***** rude etc. Cause by law they can't fire you for being pregnant so they are using tactics to get you to quit .
Avatar f tn Next, the primary had an X-ray (normal results). After she referred me to a pain management doctor. I also went to another physical therapist who thought the concern was my lack of small stomach muscle control from multiple pregnancies and surgeries of the abdominal area. MRIs of the lower back we're good. I was also seeking chiropractic care. She believes it is all structural. The pain moved to my mid back and neck about 8 months ago.

Avatar f tn I have a friend with Type 1 diabetes who wants to lose 10 pounds that she has gained over the years (subsequent to her diagnosis 25 years ago). She is unable to do so, because when her insulin becomes "low" she has to drink coca-cola to quickly restore sugar into her system (she uses an insulin pump to try to stabilize her blood glucose levels). My question is, has anyone out there with Type 1 diabetes tried to lose weight, and if so, what sort of diet did they follow?
