Common Questions and Answers about Pneumonia diagnosis accuracy

pneumonia

Avatar f tn And generally the same is true for symptoms of advanced HIV disease. For example, the symptoms are the same for garden-variety pneumonia and for Pneumocystis pneumonia, a common opportunistic infection in AIDS. When you combine both a low risk exposure, like you describe, plus nonspecificity of symptoms, the vast majority of people with "typical" HIV/AIDS symptoms in fact don't have it. Anyway, I do hope this helps you to move on without fear of HIV. Best wishes.
Avatar n tn Hyperthyroidism (overactive thyroid), alcohol use, pulmonary embolism (a blood clot in the lungs), pneumonia _______________________________________________ But most commonly, atrial fibrillation occurs as a result of some other cardiac condition (secondary atrial fibrillation). Heart valve disease: This can be something you are born with or be caused by infection or degeneration/calcification of valves with age. Enlargement of the left ventricle walls (left ventricular hypertrophy).
Avatar n tn The left ventricle will enlarge to increase the cardiac output into the system with oxygenated blood that may be at a deficit due to a respiratory inefficiency of the lungs due to pneumonia. If one has a serious heart condition, pneumonia can be fatal, and I would say the LV will have enlarged as well in an attempt to compensate. It is not unusual for a well-conditioned athlete to have an enlarged left ventricle.

An MD or a psychologist can also make the diagnosis as far as I know, but its always best to go to someone that specializes in ADHD. Its too bad about your parents previous experience. All doctors are different, and they shouldn't generalize from one bad experience - particularly when its your mental health that is at stake. If you are thinking of college, there are some advantageous to having a ADHD diagnosis before you arrive.
Avatar m tn Hello, 32 year old male, former smoker I smoked for 9 years and I quit 5 years ago Went to the ER about 6 weeks ago with severe back pain that went to my chest. At the time, no other symptoms. Had a chest x-ray that showed abnormalities so they did a CT scan of my chest. Suspected pneumonia with lymph nodes swollen in my chest and one in my upper abdominal area. Negative for nodularity. Was given 10 day course of Doxycycline. Was told to follow up because of lymph nodes.
Avatar m tn I have all the symptoms of pneumonia. The xray came back as either pneumonia or lung cancer. Small mass found on lower left lung. Treating me for pneumonia. I will have repeat xray possible cat scan. Asking in advance. How often is this found? Can pneumonia look like lung cancer? Day two of medication and I do feel better and fever broke. I still have pains from my cough and still expereince the sweaty, hot and cold bouts but feel better despite general aches and pains.
Avatar f tn I also said that I did not understand why we could not wait a week or two and take another Xray to see if there were changes...to see if the spot was the pneumonia. He quickly said that pneumonia takes a good 6 weeks to clear from your lungs and I should get another lung picture in 6 weeks. He did not seemed concerned at all about cancer. Or at least he did not say he was. The final doctor I saw was the regular MD who released me from the hospital.
Avatar m tn Terri, I read that I need to wait 6-8weeks for a blood test to be conclusive for HSV diagnosis. How many days after exposure do i need to wait for a PCR test to be conclusive ? Thank you.
Avatar n tn There's no answer to this, as MRIs are used for so many different things, and MRIs aren't necessarily conclusive. It's a tool to help confirm a diagnosis based on whay you've already described to your doctor, but it isn't the diagnosis itself, it's an aid to confirming one.
Avatar n tn Such results are more consistent with the diagnosis of asthma. Interesting that you would have had pneumonia as there is an increased risk of pneumonia for persons using an inhaled steroid. Despite that alleged risk, the benefit of these drugs far outweighs the risk of pneumonia in the majority of persons.
Avatar n tn I am a 29 year old female, never smoked, healthy weight and beside breathing and anxiety issues healthy.
Avatar f tn Anyway I saw the consultant at exactly 3 weeks after the pneumonia diagnosis and 3 different antibiotics (clarithromycin, co-amoxyclav and another one beginning with T - can't remember!) anyway I had an X-ray and the consultant has said there is an abnormality on my lung and I have a CT scan booked tomorrow and follow up with the consultant on Tuesday. So now I am really anxious and getting worried that I have lung cancer or something.
994239 tn?1321203620 Hello, Cough and/or coughing up phlegm are symptoms you may not necessarily have. The definitive diagnosis of pneumonia is based on chest xray with combination of symptoms. So, your situation is possible. I remember I had pneumonia as a child with the only symptom of vomiting. My mother took me to the hospital and a diagnosis of pneumonia was made based on my chest xray.
Avatar f tn you need to go to the Doctor and find out why you are having trouble taking a deep breath and then depending on what the diagnosis is that will depend on what treatment you receive For example of you have pneumonia then the treatment would be antibiotics and maybe other stuff life steroids and breathing treatments, I'm not saying that's what you have though the only way to know what is going on is to get checked out by your MD Hope you feel better soon
Avatar n tn t a specific diagnosis of what caused the pneumonia. Most pneumonia is infectious, and is most times caused by strep bacteria, so they throw antibiotics at it, and see how the patient responds, there are more aggressive atypical bacterial pneumonia that may require more aggressive treatment, also a persons age, and strength of their immune system is a major factor as well. But there are also viral, fungal, or less commonly parasitic causes of pneumonia.

Avatar f tn t slept with anyone since me. When we first met up, he mentioned that he had pneumonia. About 3-4 weeks prior to leaving his house, I developed flu-like symptoms. All of the symptoms passed within a timely manner, aside from swollen lymph nodes in my neck. I went to see my doctor where she did blood work. I was tested for mono, white blood cell count, etc. all tests we're fine.
Avatar n tn He asked if I was sick before the pneumonia diagnosis and the answer is yes. I have had a lot of breathing problems, weight loss, bone pain, shrinking in height, weakness, and stomach problems also. I have also taken a ct scan and I am waiting on the results. Should I be worried and what other test can I ask for or specialitst should I see? I am currently seeing a lung specialist and ENT(for polyps and nasal blockage)Please give me some direction and questions that I should be asking!!!
Avatar n tn Would carinii pneumonia present itself with just a minor cough and congestion and no fever, no rash or other symptoms. In other words is this type of pneumonia something that is more severe? I have not had an exposure to someone with HIV, but I have allowed myself to receive oral sex on occasion from guys that I did not know their HIV status.
Avatar m tn Looking for the same answer...my 3 1/2 year old son has just had his third diagnosis of traces of pneumonia that required a shot in each leg followed by oral antibiotics. Don't know why he is susceptible to this and wondering if his room has mold or something. He does have peanuts allergy; haven't had him tested yet for asthma susceptibility, which we've heard is possible when there are allergies.
Avatar f tn I have a question regarding the accuracy of MRI results versus Ultrasound when it comes to kidneys. I have a bit of a situation and am wondering if I should obtain a second opinion. I experienced kidney pain at the beginning of December and went to the doctor for some antibiotics (I have a history of UTI's which go quickly to kidney infections and had been advised many years ago to take care of UTI's quickly).

Avatar f tn t bring myself to agree and then she started eating again - then in Dec she stopped eating again, looked skeletal and I then put her on Hospice - She died 5 days later after getting pneumonia - her death cert listed alz as cause of death. Now they are suggesting hospice for my Dad (92) who is in assisted living (in the same facility ). I did agree to it although it is eating me up.
Avatar m tn The bowel problems of diarrhea and nausea after eating and white coating of the tongue may be due to GERD(gastro esophageal reflux disease), acute non-GI infections (pyelonephritis, pneumonia),gastroenteritis, liver diseases, pancreatic disorder, peptic disease of upper GI tract, gastric carcinoma,CNS diseases like infections, tumors, multiple sclerosis and metabolic disturbances like diabetes and adrenal insufficiency. Similarly white tongue is found in GI and liver disorders.
Avatar f tn This was done 2 weeks ago and the results for Herpes Simplex Virus IgG EIA came back as reactive and the Test Herpes Simplex Virus Interpretation came back with antibodies detected. I am now really confused about the accuracy of the tests and would appreciate knowing what you think and whether further testing is recommended. Thank you so much.
Avatar f tn 3 weeks on doxicycline and a week on azithromyacin and I still have a fever and infection (Was diagnosed with A-typical pneumonia). I also have a lymphnode that is much larger and more prominent than any others and has been for a few months but does not hurt. I had my blood counts checked and my WBC is high (14.0) even after all of the antibiotics. My TSH level has also gone up to 38.6 again creating massive exhaustion.
