pneumonia

Avatar f tn Good morning I'm being treated for pneumonia just started antibiotics last nite feeling a lol worse off but my question is walking pneumonia contagious......it's funny but ct images showed fluid on right lung and I have side pain ouchee! But now more symptoms are appearing.
Avatar n tn It would depend on what type of pneumonia you have. You might want to call your clinic to ask them. There are too many kinds of pneumonia for anyone to answer simply. Besides, after having pneumonia and there being a flu epidemic out there, would you really want to expose your weakened body to that?
Avatar f tn Novembermommy is correct. Pneumonia isn't really contagious, its the cold/virus that can lead to pneumonia which is contagious. Also if he's been on antibiotics for 24hrs he's not considered contagious anymore anyway.
Avatar f tn How contagious is a staph infection such as mrsa and ringworm to infants? And how serious is it?
Avatar n tn s new to me also that asthma causes a 103 degree fever! Asthma can lead to pneumonia but not the other way around. When steroids are inhaled into the lungs to treat asthma it creates an immune suppression and can make the person more susceptible to infection. This is a scary thing for a mother not to mention your son and should be investigated further. I would recommend they refer you to a Immunologist, and have the level of antibodies your son has evaluated.
Avatar f tn Flu viruses can be detected in most infected persons beginning one day before symptoms develop and up to five to seven days after becoming sick. People with flu are most contagious in the first three to four days after their illness begins. However, infants and people with weakened immune systems who are infected with flu viruses may be contagious for longer than seven days.
Avatar f tn Good question - all I know is that the caries causing bacteria streptococcus mutans does get passed on, otherwise parents would not be advised not to share eating utensils, food, drinks, toothbrushes with their infants/ toddlers and not to kiss them on the mouth. Infants do get infected that way but the severity differs.
Avatar f tn they just want me to continue with it I guess. Also, does walking pneumonia have to do with breathing problems since I no longer have that cough? The cough lasted a week and now it's gone, which is kind of strange.
Avatar m tn A woman was in the hospital with pneumonia a couple of days prior to her giving me oral sex. Am assuming they put her on meds. with her being on meds what is the possibility she was still contagious, which she never told me she had it. For a couple of days My urine flow was frequent, like peeing thru a straw and small white discharge. I have none of those symptoms now but am still concerned.
Avatar f tn i had the same thing back in june.. they thought i had pneumonia..ibut didnt..but it isnt contagious..the cough is part of the bron..
Avatar f tn It's not safe to be sick while pregnant. Your temperature should not exceed 102.5 or so for the health of your baby. If your mom or anyone close to you is sick it is highly advised you stay away from them till symptoms subside. My brother in law lives with us and has bad allergies and though they aren't contagious I enforce him taking his meds like crazy! You should definitely go to a doctor to be safe. Better safe than sorry.
Avatar m tn t know his outcome due to the fact he has seemed to vanish. so I guess my question would have to be what types of infections would cause pneumonia bacterial and viral or are there certain fungal infections that can cause this.
Avatar f tn Out of these, bacteria are the most common microorganisms, that have been found to cause pneumonia. These microorganisms usually enter the body through mouth, nose and eyes, and then infect the lungs, especially the air sacs or alveoli of the lungs. Pneumonia is more commonly found to affect the lower lobes of the lungs. Apart from microorganisms, pneumonia can also be caused by any injury or damage to the lungs, caused by the exposure to certain chemicals and radiation.
Avatar m tn These complications can include dehydration, ear or sinus infections, and bacterial or viral pneumonia, which can fill the air sacs in the lungs with pus or fluid, making it difficult to breathe and depriving older patients of adequate oxygen. In some cases, pneumonia may be asymptomatic, but it is still contagious if it results from a bacterial or viral infection.
Avatar f tn that they take antibiotics for is due to a primary virus that gave them the secondary infection. So, a cold --- that IS contagious that caused 'gunk' to get thick in sinuses, bronchial tubes or lungs and then that festered into an infection that you need antibiotics to treat. The initial virus is contagious and for how long varies. Usually a week, I'd say.
Avatar n tn During birth, infants maybe exposed to the germs causing NGU in passage through the birth canal. This may cause the baby to have infections in the: eyes (conjunctivitis) ears lungs (pneumonia) What are the signs or symptoms of NGU? Men (urethral infection): Discharge from the penis Burning or pain when urinating (peeing) Itching, irritation, or tenderness Underwear stain Women (vaginal/urethral infection): The germs that cause NGU in men might cause other infections in women.
Avatar m tn The vaccine I believe your doctor is referring to, is Pneumovax...which protects against Pc disease. It is only given to elderly (age 65 and older) and/or those who have an already existing immunodificiency disorder. The other brand of Pc vaccine is called Prevnar and is given to infants and children under the age of 5; however...I don't know why this vaccine couldn't be given to an adult....ask your doctor what s/he thinks; although, doctors are not medically trained in vaccinations...
Avatar n tn This means that anyone who decreased immunity due to illness, chemotherapy, or old age is susceptible, and should consider anyone with shingles to be contagious to them. Newborn babies are also at a greater risk, as they have little defense against such an invasive virus. Women who are pregnant are also at risk for the virus, and could pass it to their unborn child if they contract shingles during pregnancy.
Avatar f tn The complications can include chickenpox-viral pneumonia, as well as damage to other organs. However, these complications are extremely rare in preteen and early-teen children. Your body never gets rid of VZV completely. The virus usually lies dormant in the nerve root after the initial chickenpox infection, after it "splices" its DNA into the DNA of the nerve cell. Shingles is caused when the VZV is reactivated after many years.
Avatar f tn The thing is he have been admitted , the doctor gave a breathing machine for home .. He seem to be doing fine but its only day four .. The cough and running nose it's as bad ..
Avatar f tn Actually, the nurse's comment is completely wrong. Herpes are most contagious BEFORE a break out. It's not worth the risk to pass it on to your baby - herpes can kill infants. Additionally, if the child gets oral herpes from your nipples, s/he can spread it to his/her eyes. (How many children, or adults for that matter, don't touch their face constantly?) The leading cause of infectious blindness is herpes. Not worth the risk.
Avatar n tn I was asked to report to the clinic this afternoon and to my surprise, they told me to undergo my chest xray again. They found scars on my lungs and that the repeat exam is needed to find out for sure if the scars are infectious or not. I have not had any history of TB or any lung or pulmonary disorder in the past. I am already 40 years old and this is not the first time I took an xray test. there were no such findings in my past results, so why now? I am really disturbed.
Avatar n tn My 20 y.o..son has been dx with this. He has had several freezing treatments to remove them. He has seen a decrease in the formation of the bumps, but i am worried that he will have another "flare up" when he returns to college. he was very run down during the last semester (he had pneumonia) and i wonder how much that had to do with him getting this disease. I understand that this is considered an STD, but can also be gotten through other means (sharing towels etc,)...
Avatar n tn MRSA is very contagious. It can be passed by person to person through touch I believe. http://www.themrsavirus.com/mrsa-transmission.
