Common Questions and Answers about Pneumonia contagious on antibiotics

pneumonia

Avatar f tn Good morning I'm being treated for pneumonia just started antibiotics last nite feeling a lol worse off but my question is walking pneumonia contagious......it's funny but ct images showed fluid on right lung and I have side pain ouchee! But now more symptoms are appearing.
Avatar f tn Novembermommy is correct. Pneumonia isn't really contagious, its the cold/virus that can lead to pneumonia which is contagious. Also if he's been on antibiotics for 24hrs he's not considered contagious anymore anyway.
Avatar n tn When taking antibiotics and steriods for pnemoina when will you not be contagious
242516 tn?1368223905 The flu has passed epidemic rates in much of the country, and if you don't have a cold, I'm sure you have a friend who has the sniffles, fever, chills, aches and pains of a viral upper respiratory infection. This is different from a bacterial infection such as sinusitis, bronchitis, or pneumonia. A viral infection doesn't improve with antibiotics as these infections do. A virus hijacks your own body's healthy cells and uses it to reproduce and spread.
Avatar m tn If you get it back then you can get a urine culture done. But if she was for sure on antibiotics you shouldn't be able to get it " unless" the bacteria was resistant to what she was on. There is always uncertainty in science and the body. It is not a "contagious" way of getting things like sneezing or coughing more of an infectious way. But usually if you pee after sex it will remove any bacteria in there. So you are probably fine. That is my overall answer.
Avatar f tn I wasn't sure where to ask this question because there wasn't a category for walking pneumonia or upper respiratory infection , so here it goes anyway. Ok, so Last week on februrary the 2nd I got a sore throat, the next day I had a runny nose and felt like **** for a few days after that and then I developed a cough, I went to the doctor and he said I had upper respiratory infection (bronchitis)..
Avatar f tn I was diagnosed with pneumonia today and I've been getting radiation for my left breast for cancer for the last three weeks. First, did the radiation weaken my lungs to make me getting pneumonia easier? Secondly should I continue with the radiation while taking antibiotics or wait until I'm over the medicine or just the 48 hours that the doctor said I would be contagious?
Avatar f tn Other things like strep throat is contagious. Strep and staph are two contagious bacterias. Hope you feel better.
Avatar n tn a month later she was in the hospital with pneumonia, blood in urine, and overall weakness and confusion. On day 3 of hospital stay, the results came back from a sputum sample pin poinint MRSA. We were required to enter her room with gloves, mask, and gown on any visits. At times a dr would come in, listen to her lungs, without any of the precautions taken. If this is so infectious, then why do some have to "suit up" and other's don't.
Avatar n tn My four year old Mimi has been in hospital for a week with pneumonia, the xrays that have been taken do not show any improvement although her temperature is now back to normal, she has had iv antibiotics and oral antibiotics, and is now home. Because she had pneumonina when she was two in her right lung, this time its in her upper left lung they have tested her for other things and we have to go back in six weeks for a check up and more blood tests and xrays.
1609219 tn?1298104935 I am not sure why a bacterial infection would keep sprouting from a viral infection with my sinuses. I am on heavy antibiotics (avelox, levequin, bactrim, and fractive this time around), and so the heavy antibiotics are the only ones that work. I am very sensitive to smoke, and that can trigure a sinus infection-but can that really turn into walking pneumonia? Is it possible It has never totally left my system? Any help would do. Thank you.
Avatar f tn The antibiotics you have been prescribed for you Strep throat will usually quickly and effectively treat the problem. There should be no likelihood that you would pass this on to the newborn baby through a throat infection, however take the necessary precautions of hand washing, etc.
Avatar m tn Hi, I am a 25y male living in the UK. I don't smoke or drink as of Nov 2016 I was suffering with what I thought was a very bad cold/flu. Several trips the GP with very little success or sympathy it wasn't until I started coughing up blood and having very bad chest pains (This was in Jan 2017) after a chest x-ray I was advised to go to the hospital as they found a 42mm cavity lesion on my upper right lobe.
Avatar m tn They can culture your sputum and tell if it is viral or bacterial- you need to know before you take any medicine because antibiotics only work on bacteria, not viruses. If you are not running a fever it might just be dry air but you really need to see a Dr. It could also be drainage from a sinus infection. Hope you find out what is going on and feel better soon.
1472764 tn?1287588186 When I had pneumonia with my daughter, I was on antibiotics to clear it up and everything was fine. I was just put on amoxicillin for a dental infection. Both amoxicillin and the medication in your z-pack (I'm assuming that is what you are taking?) are both Pregnancy Category B and considered safe during pregnancy. I even specifically asked my Pharmacist and she assured me it is safe.
1618318 tn?1318196283 Noramlly aspiration pnuemonia would cause a bacterial pnuemonia. Because you actually inhale food particles or liquid. In other words your food is going down the wrong "pipe". Antibiotics should take care of any infection, you should also try some learning effective coughing skills also. This will aide in getting the particles back out of the airway. You can have blood drawn to see whether it is a virus or bacteria, but it is most likely bacterial pnuemonia.
1901977 tn?1333991726 I was trying to tough it out but my upper respiratory infection has moved down into my chest and with my asthma, the doctor is really worried about it turning into pneumonia and just put me on the "Z-Pack" (Azithromycin)antibiotics. I'm in my 12th week right now, and really worried about taking them. But the doctor says if my breathing goes bad or I get pneumonia that's much worse for the baby...so I just took my first dose tonight.
Avatar f tn yes being always cold is the real indication to have a chronic infection. Yes it is passed from person to person as it is contagious. The pneumonia I have is NOT through a tick bite. Mycoplasma can be transmitted by insects but also not necessarily.
Avatar f tn I get bronchitis all the time as well. I've had it and gone without antibiotics. It took me months to get rid of. The next time I got it, I did not want to suffer for months on end for no reason so I got antibiotics immediately. Trust me, it's not worth going without the meds, so get it checked out and get well.
Avatar m tn would systemic candida cause sensory neural hearing loss .I have severe itching in my nose and on my face if I don't shave every day .it seems to be something fungal or bacterial you can see it in my mucous under high magnification I just don't know how to identify it by name .the only thing I can tell you is that it is affected by saline and peppermint altoids .I am eating immune boosting foods and drinks .
2030686 tn?1351688548 if you feel worse, since you posted this, and have your lungs listened to.
Avatar n tn Infiltrates typically mean infection, in your case, it was a subtle infiltrate....not too obvious but there non the less. You probably did have pneumonia, but since you have been on a week of antibiotics, it is resolving. There is evidence that it is there though by the sounds of your xray. It is good that it isn't a whopping infection though...hopefully the antibiotics finish their job :) Are you feeling better now? Any fevers, chills? If so, then I would talk to your doctor to touch base.
Avatar n tn Buddy was diagnosed with pneumonia and has gone through a course of doggy antibiotics and 3 courses of human antibiotics. The right lung is full of fluid. He would get better, then be energetic and get worse. It was suggested that he may not have pneumonia but CHF. Is there anything to do to help him. The vet doesn't seem to have any suggestions. Would a diuretic help? He's starting to not eat now.
Avatar m tn You son was just diagnosed with pneumonia but consistently complains that his feet hurt. He's on antibiotics and all and drinking well. I'm just worried about him saying his feet always hurt. He's a 3 year old boy. Any suggestions or help?
Avatar f tn I ave just been diagnosed with pneumonia. Will this leave me with permanent lung damage. I feel very short of breath.
