Avatar f tn For example, the bacteria that causes pneumonia called streptococcus pneumonia is a normal bacteria residing in all our throats. Since we all don't get pneumonia from it, the determining factor is not the virulence of the bacteria. The bacteria multiplies without restraint only when our immune systems become compromised.
Avatar m tn A woman was in the hospital with pneumonia a couple of days prior to her giving me oral sex. Am assuming they put her on meds. with her being on meds what is the possibility she was still contagious, which she never told me she had it. For a couple of days My urine flow was frequent, like peeing thru a straw and small white discharge. I have none of those symptoms now but am still concerned.

After earlier courses of Amoxicillin, then Zithromax, upon determining Pneumonia I have been prescribed Levaquin, a much stronger antibiotic; But the Levaquin costs $ 264, which I can not afford. Avatar f tn I was diagnosed with pneumonia today and I've been getting radiation for my left breast for cancer for the last three weeks. First, did the radiation weaken my lungs to make me getting pneumonia easier? Secondly should I continue with the radiation while taking antibiotics or wait until I'm over the medicine or just the 48 hours that the doctor said I would be contagious?

I am tired of going to so many doctors to be sent home. Thank you.
Avatar m tn These complications can include dehydration, ear or sinus infections, and bacterial or viral pneumonia, which can fill the air sacs in the lungs with pus or fluid, making it difficult to breathe and depriving older patients of adequate oxygen. In some cases, pneumonia may be asymptomatic, but it is still contagious if it results from a bacterial or viral infection.
Avatar n tn It was repaired two days later. She suffered aspiration pneumonia and a UTI fungal infection in the hospital. She was finally transferred to a rehabiliation center after being in the hospital for 4 weeks. In the rehab center, they told us she now has MRSA pneumonia. What are her chances of overcoming all of this? She is on a trach and at times seems very coherent. How much longer do we let her endure all of this? She never says she's in pain or uncomfortable.
Avatar n tn Hello, For these symptoms, flat warts, hyperpigmented spots or senile purpura ( in elderly) should be ruled out. Warts are tumours or growths of the skin caused by infection with Human Papillomavirus (HPV).They are contagious when in contact with the skin of an infected person. I hope it helps. Take care and regards.
Avatar n tn He is very fragile, has frequent trips to the hospital for pneumonia (currently at home but trying to recover from this third pneumonia in two years. Had terrible reactions to mouth problems, no appetite for several months, therefore, lost substantial weight. His weight is now down again (137lbs at 5' 9" height) and normal weight from three years ago was 155lbs.) He was first dx with prostate cancer 10 years ago and had surgery to remove it.
Avatar f tn then quick onset of death usually only occurs in infants or elderly - or in people who have a weakened immune system. Pneumonia caused by bacteria is more angers than pneumonia caused by a virus, but oftentimes a virus can pave the way foe the bacteria to thrive. However, a bacterial pneumonia usually comes with a fever. There was a famous man named Jim Hensen (who created the Muppets) who died from a bacterial pneumonia.

Avatar f tn Over Thanksgiving break,I stayed with my elderly aunt, and she has just found out that she's had shingles for quite some time. I'm so confused about what I need to do. is there a test my doctor can do or are there visible signs of shingles?
Avatar m tn I asked my doctor if I could get the pneumonia shot this year since I struggled so much last year with my second bout of Pneumonia. He said I should only get the shot if I am 65 years old or diabetic. I do not want to struggle this year like I did last year. Am I too young? Am I not eligible? Is it a health risk for me to get this shot?

Avatar f tn I have a horrible cough. So 5 days ago I went to the Urgent Care and Dr said probably pneumonia. She gave me antibiotics, prednisone, and albuterol. It has been 5 days. The fevers are just higher. They dont even get better with ibuprofen. I can't function. I have small kids. I feel to sick to drive to the doctor. I need help. My cough is a lot better, my chest doesnt hurt as bad but these fevers are killing me. Any ideas? I've never felt so terrible.
Avatar m tn He has a small patch of pneumonia on the lung uncured for about three months now, and he has been on and off Levaquin. The cardiologist saw this and told me that he thinks my father has months to live. He feels mental cloudiness and inability to walk are confirmation that the heart has become too weak to support normal function. The doctor holds out hope that if we can treat the pneumonia and any electrolyte imbalances that we might get him to snap out of this.
Avatar n tn An asthmatic should also be using their rescue inhaler exactly as prescribed (number of doses at the shortest time interval) to prevent/minimize a flare. Also, if the are elderly or have otherwise compromised health they need to see a doctor. You need to agressively work to prevent dehydration. Depending on other medications she may be on, guaifenesen (generic Mucinex) would be a good idea. I hope that helps you some. I pray that your mother is feeling better soon.
