Avatar f tn For example, the bacteria that causes pneumonia called streptococcus pneumonia is a normal bacteria residing in all our throats. Since we all don't get pneumonia from it, the determining factor is not the virulence of the bacteria. The bacteria multiplies without restraint only when our immune systems become compromised.
Avatar m tn A woman was in the hospital with pneumonia a couple of days prior to her giving me oral sex. Am assuming they put her on meds. with her being on meds what is the possibility she was still contagious, which she never told me she had it. For a couple of days My urine flow was frequent, like peeing thru a straw and small white discharge. I have none of those symptoms now but am still concerned.
Avatar m tn These two viruses are very contagious stable viruses that are very widespread among cat. Most cats are exposed when they are young and have developed some immunity to them. I believe keeping your cat vaccinated helps to keep their immune system primed to respond if they are exposed to the virus again. I recommend my patients get the vaccine every three years after they have had them two years in a row.
Avatar m tn She is not currently meowing, but I am concerned about keeping her shut in a bathroom for 2 weeks. If she were to have something contagious, would she no longer be contagious after 3 days on antibiotics (like humans)? Or should I do everything I can to keep her in that bathroom for a full 14 days? I'm just concerned about my indoor cats' well being. I would not let her out before her eyelids are back to normal. Thanks SO much for any and all advice.

1096641 tn?1271707225 Wow...it sure sounds like you have your hands full at that house!! Feline Panleukopenia is a viral disease that is similar to, and thought to be the precursor to, canine parvovirus. These viruses are very hardy in the environment and can be carried around with you on your shoes and clothing. It is very contagious among cats and outbreaks are often seen at shelters and rescues were many of the cats are not fully vaccinated.
740516 tn?1360942486 Apple, I don't think you can pass this on to your cats and vice versa. I googled this question for you and below is a link which explains why you most likely would NOT be contagious to the girls. Hope it helps. Hope you feel better, too. Here in the States, there's an over the counter med for pink eye which was more of a relief than a cure. http://www.askipedia.com/askipedia-article-008-551.
Avatar f tn I was diagnosed with pneumonia today and I've been getting radiation for my left breast for cancer for the last three weeks. First, did the radiation weaken my lungs to make me getting pneumonia easier? Secondly should I continue with the radiation while taking antibiotics or wait until I'm over the medicine or just the 48 hours that the doctor said I would be contagious?
Avatar m tn Unlike stated above, cancer is NOT contagious, not even to other cats. There is a condition called Feline Leukemia which is confusing because humans have a cancer called Leukemia. However, Feline Leukemia is NOT a cancer. It is a retrovirus that attacks lymphocytes. Due to the attack on lymphcytes is ACTS like a cancer...but the point is it is a retrovirus. Being a virus is why it is contagious to other cats.
Avatar m tn These complications can include dehydration, ear or sinus infections, and bacterial or viral pneumonia, which can fill the air sacs in the lungs with pus or fluid, making it difficult to breathe and depriving older patients of adequate oxygen. In some cases, pneumonia may be asymptomatic, but it is still contagious if it results from a bacterial or viral infection.
Avatar f tn FIV can't be passed from the cat to a person. It's not possible. Just as a human can't infect a cat with HIV. These viruses are specific to the species and not able to infect outside of that species. However, FIV is highly contagious toward other cats so hopefully you don't have any other non-infected cats living with you nor do you allow your cat out to roam the neighborhood to infect other neighborhood cats.
Avatar f tn i had the same thing back in june.. they thought i had pneumonia..ibut didnt..but it isnt contagious..the cough is part of the bron..
Avatar f tn yes-take to vet immediately- i almost lost my Bob because I didn't know that coughing is a bad sign in cats unless actually coughing up a hairball-it turned out he'd gotten pneumonia. Do NOT hesitate-get your kitty to vet stat-coughing is NOT NORMAL in cats.
Avatar m tn One of them also had a heart defect and died but the others recovered after a week or two. My cats had not been vaccinated because I had been told that indoor cats were not at risk and we lived in a third-floor apartment in a complex where all cats were required to stay indoor. The only one of my cats that did not get sick was the one with FIV. My friend and her cats moved out a few months later but now we're thinking about moving into a house together.
Avatar n tn I am worried about this one have contracted it since I have two healthy indoor cats being kept separate from this stray. My questions are: is she likely to have the disease if she was vaccinated 2 years ago? Since my indoors are vaccinated, will they be less susceptible to this disease? If I get the stray to the doctor and she tests negative how long must i wait before exposing her to my other cats? Does she need a second test?
Avatar m tn Hi Glenn, wondering how your cat is doing and hoping you got her to the vet. She sounds very ill. Every single thing you describe your kitty doing sounds like my BIL's cat who had pneumonia. Medical intervention is a must! Please give us an update when you can.
Avatar m tn Is cellulitis cause by staph contagious? My uncle had it in form of a boil. We think he may have spread it cause another is forming. Is cellulitis contagious if there is a boil not just a rash? What if I sat where he did and placed my arm with a scab where he placed his boil arm? How so is it contagious? I read it's not because it is in the deeper skin layer but i mean...he had a boil that is at the upper layer. Could he have been misdiagnosed?
