Pneumonia antibiotics not helping

Common Questions and Answers about Pneumonia antibiotics not helping

pneumonia

Avatar m tn My 4 yr. old son was diagnosed with walking pneumonia after getting hives on his face 2 days in a row. At first we thought it was an allergy we couldn't put our finger on because he has an allergy to dairy and sesame. But he hadn't come in contact with either one. Once our pediatrician examined him she said the hives were from walking pneumonia. He is on the third day of antibiotics but hives are still appearing on his face. They go away within the hour without any treatment.
Avatar n tn Most pneumonia is infectious, and is most times caused by strep bacteria, so they throw antibiotics at it, and see how the patient responds, there are more aggressive atypical bacterial pneumonia that may require more aggressive treatment, also a persons age, and strength of their immune system is a major factor as well. But there are also viral, fungal, or less commonly parasitic causes of pneumonia. None of which is affected at all by antibiotics, each has it's own unique treatment.

1901977 tn?1333991726 I was trying to tough it out but my upper respiratory infection has moved down into my chest and with my asthma, the doctor is really worried about it turning into pneumonia and just put me on the "Z-Pack" (Azithromycin)antibiotics. I'm in my 12th week right now, and really worried about taking them. But the doctor says if my breathing goes bad or I get pneumonia that's much worse for the baby...so I just took my first dose tonight.
Avatar n tn Buddy was diagnosed with pneumonia and has gone through a course of doggy antibiotics and 3 courses of human antibiotics. The right lung is full of fluid. He would get better, then be energetic and get worse. It was suggested that he may not have pneumonia but CHF. Is there anything to do to help him. The vet doesn't seem to have any suggestions. Would a diuretic help? He's starting to not eat now.
Avatar f tn ve had it and gone without antibiotics. It took me months to get rid of. The next time I got it, I did not want to suffer for months on end for no reason so I got antibiotics immediately. Trust me, it's not worth going without the meds, so get it checked out and get well.
Avatar m tn It sounds like you sister is getting the best care possible. She is on the ventilator to help her body heal itself. Off the ventilator, her body would expend too much energy just trying to breath to get the extra oxygen in. This is a bacterial infection? Then hopefully the antibiotics will kick in to kill the infection. At that point, she will start her healing process. It will be a slow one.
1472764 tn?1287588186 When I had pneumonia with my daughter, I was on antibiotics to clear it up and everything was fine. I was just put on amoxicillin for a dental infection. Both amoxicillin and the medication in your z-pack (I'm assuming that is what you are taking?) are both Pregnancy Category B and considered safe during pregnancy. I even specifically asked my Pharmacist and she assured me it is safe.
242516 tn?1368223905 m sure you have a friend who has the sniffles, fever, chills, aches and pains of a viral upper respiratory infection. This is different from a bacterial infection such as sinusitis, bronchitis, or pneumonia. A viral infection doesn't improve with antibiotics as these infections do. A virus hijacks your own body's healthy cells and uses it to reproduce and spread. A bacteria is its own living cell and multiplies and spreads on its own and is easier to destroy in that process.
1618318 tn?1318196283 I have swallowing disorders that put me at risk for aspiration pneumonia. Are there any tests that can be done to differentiate the type of pneumonia? I have had several xrays done on my chest and was put on antibiotics.
Avatar f tn If you continue to have a yellowish orbn greenish sputem after three days do not hesitate to bring this to the attention to your physician. Ocasionally bacterial pneumonia requires a short period of hospitalization and intravenous antibiotics. Drink plenty of liquids, walk around a bit, and take 1000mg of vitamin C every day. Don't worry too much. If, during the night the difficulty in breathing gets worse, don't hesitate to call 911.
Avatar n tn Infiltrates typically mean infection, in your case, it was a subtle infiltrate....not too obvious but there non the less. You probably did have pneumonia, but since you have been on a week of antibiotics, it is resolving. There is evidence that it is there though by the sounds of your xray. It is good that it isn't a whopping infection though...hopefully the antibiotics finish their job :) Are you feeling better now? Any fevers, chills? If so, then I would talk to your doctor to touch base.
Avatar f tn I have a 7 yr old Min Pin who is not eating. Last Wed-Friday he was eating next to nothing, had a fever and was lethargic. He went to the vet Sat and his white blood cell count was almost non-existant. he was put on antibiotics. he was no better so I had him admitted for hospitalization on Mon morning. He was pumped with fluids and antibiotics for two days. Achest x-ray showed a shadow on his bronchial tube that the doctor said might be pneumonia.
Avatar f tn They said the pneumonia was not restricted to a specific area but had fluffs all over the lungs. I am trying to understand all this better.

5601163 tn?1370701672 I recently underwent a two week course of Levaquin for pneumonia. On the follow-up visit with my doctor, a chest x-ray showed "right basilar opacity," which caused my doctor to order a CT scan. What does this mean?

4498734 tn?1355501804 I was on antibiotics for an impacted tooth and was then put on antibiotics for pneumonia and told to stop taking the antibiotics for my tooth. Now the pneumonia seems to be clearing up but the infection in my mouth seems to be coming back. What could I do?
Avatar f tn I'm in agony... 21 weeks pregnant with a respiratory infection that isn't pneumonia but might as well be from the cough... I'm on antibiotics and also bedrest but neither seem to be helping. And now I'm absolutely certain that I've strained an abdominal muscle. Every time I cough not only do I pee a little (thanks, weak-*** bladder) but I also cry out in pain. Tylenol doesn't touch the pain and there aren't any safe cough suppressants I can take.
