plavix

976897 tn?1379167602 Data clearly shows taking aspirin/plavix along with acid reflux medication is causing a higher death rate. The cause is unknown as yet. So, I would advise anyone due for angioplasty to discuss with their gp stopping any acid reflux meds currently being taken.
1274110 tn?1270788561 Thanks for the warning. It might be old information. I was denied Ranexa because of an old warning about the interaction with my Diltizem. Thanks for your help.
Avatar m tn The FDA is actively looking at data on other PPIs, but at this time the FDA is not warning patients to avoid taking Plavix along with other PPIs. It seems there is so much misinformation, changing opinions, etc. does not bode well for confidence in the medication. I wouldn't want a mega dose of anti-platelet meds. It took hours to stop bleeding from a dentist visit, and I'm on a baby aspirin. The risk of bleeding internally (bowel, stomach, etc.
315318 tn?1353251800 I will talk to my cardiologist about the point you make about my INR number. On the other hand, two months ago, I had to spend four days in a hospital after a nose-bleed event. The bleeding kept going , on and off, for more than 12 hours and made the doctors suspect gastrointestinal bleeding. In the hospital they discontinued both aspirin and effient for 2-4 days. I guess, I must be lucky because the discontinuance did not lead to any thrombosis.
Avatar n tn Some doctors prescribe taking the Plavix for a lifetime and other prescribed it for 6 month to a year. Plavix really helps avoid the blood clots. Shortness of breath when walking would be a warning sign that something is wrong and he should let his doctor know if this happens.
Avatar n tn I recently got off plavix, (2 1/2) weeks ago and yesterday I experienced severe chest pain, so severe I screamed several times. The pain started on the right side of my chest when I had bent over and then I had to sit down because the pain continued. The pain then shifted over to the left side and all throughout my chest. I called my cardiologist and he told me to go to the hospital, which I did. They evaluated me over night and only did some blood tests.
1386233 tn?1279931493 Victoria, I have to lean toward Jen's explanation. My father had multiple episodes in the hospital recently because his platelet count plunged - he was ignoring having tarry stools. Listening to the doctors, the color of the blood indicates where it is coming from in the digestive tract - the further it has to travel to the rectum to exit, the darker the color. Bleeding from hemmoiroids (sp?) is almost always bright red because that has the least amount of time and distance to travel.
Avatar n tn The doctor said hypertension was the cause. There seemed to be no warning signs except on the day it happened. He had a terrible headache and went downhill from there. He was taking all his medication--plavix, 325 mg of asprin, blood pressure medicine, etc. and was doing fine. He did have very bad back pain but finally got relief and was back to himself for a month and a half. This stroke came on so suddenly....did I miss something? His pressure was under control and he was feeling good.
690060 tn?1247841741 Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has new data showing that omeprazole (Prilosec/Prilosec OTC)—a medicine used to reduce stomach acid—reduces the anti-blood clotting effect of clopidogrel (Plavix) by almost half when these two medicines are taken by the same patient." "...Patients using clopidogrel should consult with their healthcare provider if they are currently taking or considering taking omeprazole, including Prilosec OTC" but then, there's also this: http://www.
Avatar f tn Do you think that medication for cholesterol and triglycerides and even taking plavix/aspirin can help me minimize any risks. Can I still work full time and exercise?
237039 tn?1264258057 It was sudden and the damage is permanent. No warning at all. I was told that there was plaque in the blood vessel and was told that the cell damage happens in the first few hours. Actually, the opthamologist says that some of my vision may get better and that my left eye would have to compensate for the vision loss. This has been so surreal and I am having a hard time accepting this. He told me it is rare. He only sees this maybe 3 or 4 times a year.
Avatar f tn t want to go back for fear of being labelled a hypochondriac, but the pain is very real and it occurred to me this morning that I could possibly have a collapsed stent. I stopped taking plavix 7 months ago because the cost is prohibitive. The doctor didn't seem concerned about that, and not knowing that I needed to take the aspirin forever, I stopped taking that too, about 4 months ago. What should I be doing. I have started taking the aspirin again, three days ago.
Avatar n tn The medication is usually anticoagulants, such as aspirin/plavix (clopidogrel). Many times a Cardiologist will put a patient onto Beta blockers to keep the heart rate down and lower blood pressure. The best way to get vitamins is from food, not supplements. A 30 min walk every day will work wonders too. As his weight drops, and the healthy diet, you will see his blood pressure drop along with his cholesterol. It is also important to watch his mental health.
Avatar m tn Did your doctor determine that you risk was so high that he wanted you on Plavix long term, these are the only circumstances that using Plavix long term would be.
255163 tn?1376869746 My heart Dr will not let me go off the plavix and my surgeon will not do the surgery while on plavix. What happens in a situation like this?. I am between a rock and a hard place. If neither Dr gives in what do I do? If I have an attack and end up in the ER wouldn't they have to do emergency sugery?. Does this mean that anyone on plavix can never have surgery unless it's an ermergency. What is your opinion on going off plavix temporarily for surgery. I would welcome anyones advice.
Avatar f tn I had an MI in '05, and had a RCA stent placed. I was on plavix apox. 4 yrs because of family hx and my paranoia of another MI. I recently have been experiencing tingling and numbness in my hands upon awaking and have noticed small spider veins appearing on my thighs. I am a nurse on a MedSurg unit. I am concerned that my stent is becoming occulded. My doctor took me off plavix Jan'10 and kept me on 325 Aspirin.
Avatar n tn My cardiologist would not let my dentist allow me to stop taking Plavix for even 5 days to alleviate my pain due to a cavity .The dentist is bent upon my discontinuing Plavix to enable filling of the cavity or do root canal to solve the problem.
Avatar f tn She was given platelet went up then down again Can plavix make it worse and will her platelet revert back to normal

255163 tn?1376869746 My Cardio wants me on the plavix indefintely, so will not give me the ok to stop the plavix for 10 days and the Surgeon will not do the procedure with me on the plavix. I'm in a no win situation. My symptoms are not that severe yet, Does anyone have any suggestions or advice. Should I try another Cardio for a 2nd opinion or is there someone that I can complain to so these dr's will get together to corrdinate something.
Avatar m tn Structual collapse of a stent would indicate an improper size or defect. I discontinued plavix after year, and I have never heard of plavix associated with a collapsed stent! There may be a misunderstanding.
Avatar n tn I have read so often that you should not take Plavix and aspirin, but it seems to also be common to prescribe both plavix and aspirin in certain situations. I am worried and confused. Thanks.
Avatar m tn Lately, there have many posts related to the duration of plavix and it seems patients are given plavix for a long period of time. It has been my understanding from what I have read and my experience, plavix is recommended for individuals that have a drug eluding stent to help prevent clots for up to a year. That has been my experience. DES when compared to bare metal stent implants have an increase of clots and restenosis for a period of one year...
Avatar m tn I have a high deductibule ins policy I have found several web sights that offer generic Plavix or [clopidogrel] that is suginifantly cheeper than brand name Plavix Will the generic work as good as plavix? Or is it just a plasebo?
Avatar f tn I have taken it seriously. Unfortunately I have no health coverage and have lost my job. The hospital did not however and there lies the problem. I walk everyday but I do not have high blood pressure or cholesterol so they felt no need for medications considering my age. Their only advice was quit smoking and get off the depo shot.
