Plavix vs protonix

Common Questions and Answers about Plavix vs protonix

plavix

Avatar n tn A healing leg (just out of cast) prohibits stress testing and the dr said he wouldn’t get the results he wanted anyway. I take aspirin 325, plavix, 80mg lipitor, protonix (just to protect stomach), 10mg zetia, capoten 25mg 3x, imdur 60mg 2x. I did have high blood pressure (150+/80+ p90) but am now unexplainably low 80/60 p 60 while on same meds. My question is – what do I do now?. Could these new stents possibly be failing?
Avatar f tn I don't know about "normal," but if the regimen of warfarin and Plavix is working for you, then great. Your goal is to find something that works. Have you been tested for clotting disorders? Your story makes me wonder about that, especially if the stroke happened to be due to a clot.
Avatar m tn Structual collapse of a stent would indicate an improper size or defect. I discontinued plavix after year, and I have never heard of plavix associated with a collapsed stent! There may be a misunderstanding.
Avatar n tn Severe joint and back pain usually is not a side effect of Plavix. Coumadin is more powerful than Plavix. The Plavix is important to take especially if you have coated stents. You may want to be checked for arthritis that may be flaring up. Coumadin is not to be used in persons with high cholesterol.
Avatar n tn there are alot of variables when it comes to medications vs. alcohol vs. a variety of diseases.....a simple call to the doc should clear it up for you because its always better to be safer than sorry......
Avatar n tn ve noticed chest pressure since then sometimes with jaw pain, sometimes without and burning at times under my sternum. It is almost like indigestion but not relieved by antacids or prescription medi ations (protonix). It comes with and without exertion. The Dr feels another angiogram is needed in the event of a recoil. What is that and is it common?
Avatar m tn I have been taking Plavix 75 MG daily. A recent plavix test showed it was not helping. Now my PA has me on 150 MG Plavix. I really bleed when scratched now. Should I take the Plavix test again to see if the increased dossage is working? I am also taking 325 mg asprin.
1210142 tn?1266077031 I still have 6 small blockages so I cannot go off Plavix. My dr. took me off prilosec and put me on Protonix until my ulcer healed, then I took Pepcid AC 20 mg. He has recently had to put me back on Nexium for severe acid reflux, but told me to take Plavix in the morn. and Nexium at night. Have to have some blood work done in 1 month.
709686 tn?1277432159 Protonix (Pantoprozole) does not give me problems...maybe a little weight loss. Omeprazole (Prilosec or Zegerid) causes me all kinds of problems. Headache, chest pain, red/irritated eyes, all kinds of body aches, constipation and extreme thrist. Problem is...protonix is by script only and VERY EXPENSIVE! Someone talk to me about this. Has anyone else experienced these problems with Omeprazole?
Avatar m tn 49 years old, family of five, and own my own software company. Had heart attack in Nov 08. Blocked artery. No idea I had it. Angioplasty and drug eluding stent. Put on Plavix, Aspirin, Coumadin, Simvastatin, Lisiniprol. Went through cardiac rehab for three months. Rehab went great. In best shape of my life. Then two months after heart attack, with one month to go in rehab, started to get terrible constriction in my throat - around my adams apple.
Avatar m tn The recommended treatment for DES implants is dual therapy of aspirin and plavix up to a year. Combining plavix and aspirin increases the risk of bleeding vs. aspirin alone in patients treated for more than a brief period of time. That is the regimen followed for my DES implant. f you are in this category a prior MI and unstable angina:" In the CAPRIE trial, clopidogrel (plavix) was equivalent to aspirin for patients with a recent (but not acute) MI.
Avatar n tn It seems plavix helps reduce the risk for clots at implant site, and after a year the risk of clots is less than the risk of excessive bleeding with plavix. After a year discontinued plavix and remain on a baby aspirin. Several months ago after some dental work there was excessive bleeding for hours on a baby aspirin...so I'm not cool with large doses of anti-platelet meds. Warfarin can cause very serious (possibly fatal) bleeding.
Avatar f tn I am wondering if long term protonix use has been linked to joint and muscle pain as well as hearing loss. I have been taking proton pump inhibitors for 18 years and have just begun hearing about bone loss and other issues. I have been diagnosed with fibromyalgia after finally seeing a doctor about the pain that I have endured for over 10 years.
Avatar m tn rbc was 4.48 vs low end of 4.50, platelet at 144 vs low of 150 on range and 11 MPV vs. high range of 10...all other labs were fine...
Avatar f tn Could Plavix and asprin be used together to help with stroke prevention or is Plavix just as dangerous and Xeralto and Pradaxa?
255163 tn?1376869746 If so, did you ever have surgery where you had to stop the plavix for 7days. If your completly off the plavix, when were you able to stop it after the coated stents were put in?
Avatar m tn aspirin, lipitor, allegra, losartin, atenolol, plavix, protonix, hydrochlorothiazide and lantus and humulog for his diabetes. He was on reglan for a short time. He was diagnosed after many episodes with esophogitis and I cant recall the last one having to do with his stomach not emptying properly. He has been to a gastroenterologist and recently saw an new endocrinologist. He recently had a colonoscopy, his DR. was very pleased with the condition of his colon. He is 64yrs old and a tennis pro..
315318 tn?1353251800 Well, plavix is coming off patent next year so the cost should come down substantially. In my case though, I got a DES placed in my LAD in December 2009. My cardio said, I am not responsive to Plavix, but not to worry. Start taking this new related medication called Effient. Effient, however, comes with greater chance of bleeding and it is expensive.
Avatar n tn There have been many successful interventions without plavix. I think your doctor to suggest a bypass to avoid plavix is off the chart. With a (DES) stent there is dual therapy recommended for up to a year. This helps a very small percentage (less than 2%) who may have restenosis (another blockage with blood clot).
Avatar f tn Some of these medications should be uptitrated by his cardiologist to allow for the maximum dose as he tolerates them (namely, Ramipril and Metoprolol). His Plavix should continue for either several months up to 1-2 years depending on the type of stent he received at the time of his percutaneous coronary intervention (bare metal stent vs. drug-eluting). As with most medications, daily compliance with all of these is imperative for maintaining healthy cardiovascular fitness.
