Common Questions and Answers about Plavix test

plavix

Avatar n tn My father does not have any current heart condition, but felt a twinge and was going to go in for a test. In preparation for the test, or just as a precaution, he was put on Plavix even though he was on aspirin therapy. He does not have high blood pressure and is diabetic. Before the test could be performed, he had a massive gastrointestinal bleed. After a week in the hospital, and many blood transfusions, he is home recovering.
Avatar m tn I have been taking Plavix 75 MG daily. A recent plavix test showed it was not helping. Now my PA has me on 150 MG Plavix. I really bleed when scratched now. Should I take the Plavix test again to see if the increased dossage is working? I am also taking 325 mg asprin.
315318 tn?1353251800 The test was developed by a well known interventional cardiology group at a major New York hospital. I did not have the test eight years ago when I was prescribed Plavix after my first stenting procedure. That makes me suspect that it may be a very recently developed test. I have asked questions on this and other forums about the test but have not received satisfactory responses.
Avatar m tn Had two stents 2 years ago. I am thinking asking for heart cath? Dr. put me on Plavix after this. Going back in a week to ask follow up questions.
Avatar n tn 72yr old Female[my mom], had stent 1 1/2yrs ago, 60% occluded other side, is on plavix, lipitor [LDL-130, HDL-55], atenolol, is in cardiac rehab, lost 18lbs, but remains obese. She is asymptomatic. She wants to go off plavix to have torn meniscus repair and gyn sugery for stress incontinence. Docs been saying "no" for last six months. My dad pressed them to due repeat stress test to see if she is" OK" , because he wants her to get knee done.{She's in pain}.
Avatar m tn Had multiple stents (4) placed four (4) years ago, two in LAD with no side effects and good nuclear and stress test results over this period. Am currently taking Plavix/Aspirin/Coreg/Altace. Need arthroscopic repair on knee but concerned over cessating of Plavix. One cardiologist recommended ending Plavix entirely, second (same practice) would rather wait for a large study about to be completed. Suggestions?
Avatar m tn My cardiologist performed a special blood test and found that although Plavix thinned my blood, it was not an effective medication for my body chemistry. There are many others. You may want to have your cardiologist speak directly to your gasteroenterologist. If he won't listen or work with you, it is time to find another. Good luck.
Avatar n tn My husband is 64 had 5 bipass surgery in 2002. we moved to new hampshire 2 years ago & his caardiologist wants to stop his plavix... He has been told the risk is too high for bleeding. 8 years on, is this good?
1210142 tn?1266077031 I think plavix is very important for CAD sufferers. The half life of plavix is short anyway, so if it came to some emergency, it wouldn't take long for the effect to wear off.
Avatar n tn I recently got off plavix, (2 1/2) weeks ago and yesterday I experienced severe chest pain, so severe I screamed several times. The pain started on the right side of my chest when I had bent over and then I had to sit down because the pain continued. The pain then shifted over to the left side and all throughout my chest. I called my cardiologist and he told me to go to the hospital, which I did. They evaluated me over night and only did some blood tests.
Avatar n tn First stent and the second time, I developed allergic reaction to Plavix, second time with Ticlid, had 2 small seisures, tried Plavix again with Benadryl, this time developed intercranial bleeding. Angina symptoms have reoccured, but cardiologists will not tell me what I can do if I cannot take blood thinners (I have allergic reactions or bad reactions to almost all meds). I'm just told, "We'll cross that bridge when we get there.
Avatar m tn The Dr performing the procedure said I need further investigations, ie, an MRI Stress test because of. Here is the report they gave me. Managment Plan: Depending on the result of MRI, may require PCI of circumflex and LAD, or CABG. Is this an indication that two or more of my arteris are blocked. Since the angiogram, I frequently get minor chest pains without stress.
Avatar n tn could lack of adequate blood flow to the heart muscle cause angina without blockage? I have a heart that races a lot, the doctor has talked about putting a def. in for the racing, some time I've has passed out, but always come back to. is this because there not a lot of blood getting to the heart. I've had a cath done and it's shows there no blockages, I do take plavix and nitro and blood pressure pills, if I have no blockage, why i'm I taking plavix?
Avatar m tn The best thing you can do is take your aspirin and plavix (or alternative). You should never miss a dose and never stop it unless approved by your cardiologist. To my knowledge, there is no specific diet that aids in this. However, diet, exercise, a positive mindset, keeping your blood pressure/cholesterol under control and getting screened for diabetes can all help in preventing further progression of heart disease. You should also qualify for cardiac rehabilitation.
Avatar n tn I am still in shock as I actually did not anticipate any significant blockage and was doing angiogram for diagnosis after failing stress test but no severe angina. Test showed two short segments with 75% and 85% blockage and longer stretch with 50%. They put in 2 short stents and first two and longer stent in the longer area overlapping with stent for 85% blockage. Sent home with Plavix, Altace (Ramiprimil) and Lipitor (Ran-Atorvastatin). plus ASA.
Avatar n tn 06 I was scheduled for hip replacement surgery, before I was to be cleared I had to have a stress test...The doctors found a blood flow problem and found I had 4 blockages...I had 3 medicated stents put in and the fourth was 100% blocked, doctors were not overly concerned as they have noted that in prior cases the artery where that blockage is have branched off and created a new entrance to the heart...Here I am 2 years later, still needing hip replacement...
Avatar f tn The problem is the radiologist wants me to go off Plavix and aspirin to do this. I am confused because the surgeon who saw me for the breast infection said he could aspirate the large, infected cyst in his office that day even though, at that time, I was on both Coumadin and Plavix. The cardiologist said I shouldn't have the biopsy until the middle of August.
Avatar f tn been on 81mg aspirin and 75mg plavix since January21 and feel terrible have one medacade stent
Avatar m tn Did your doctor determine that you risk was so high that he wanted you on Plavix long term, these are the only circumstances that using Plavix long term would be.
255163 tn?1376869746 My heart Dr will not let me go off the plavix and my surgeon will not do the surgery while on plavix. What happens in a situation like this?. I am between a rock and a hard place. If neither Dr gives in what do I do? If I have an attack and end up in the ER wouldn't they have to do emergency sugery?. Does this mean that anyone on plavix can never have surgery unless it's an ermergency. What is your opinion on going off plavix temporarily for surgery. I would welcome anyones advice.
