As of the present, ongoing post-marketing surveillance or phase IV trials, there has been no direct evidence of these drugs causing such conditions especially CLL. But, this does not mean that we can totally rule out the association. I am 67yom, and wanted to know more about taking Plavix (s/p stent x1). when was it introduce for usage ?, and How long can one take it with out hurting other parts of body?...My Dr seems to think that I'm to old to know anybetter (just from him always changing the subject or answering the phone just when I need an answer). Plavix/clopidogrel is mainly an anti-platelet drug (they are *usually* used artery-side, e.g., to prevent strokes or heart attacks). The other drugs mentioned are anticoagulants (which interfere with coagulant proteins such as Factor Xa -- they are usually used venous-side, e.g., preventing DVT after orthopedic surgery). Either type might be used for the in between, which is the heart: for AFib clotting/strokes.
I don't know why your doc preferred to prescribe Plavix for DVT.
About 1-1/2 months ago he started experiencing mild itching on his legs and has now become chronic all over his body. Most of his meds have rash and itching side effects. Aggrenox was just changed to Plavix, but the itching has not stopped. 325mg of aspirin is also a future consideration as a blood thinner. He was given Ativan 0.5mg two days ago to stop the itching. The first night he practically scratched two wholes in his paralyzed arm.
