Avatar n tn There is much contraversy over this and also as plavix is taken in conjunction with aspirin. Many doctors are now saying long term use of aspirin can cause bleeding in the brain, while others say that the clotting ability of blood is still sufficient to prevent this. More research is currently being undertaken to gather data to see which side of the argument has the strongest stance.
482754 tn?1341791494 I no longer have to take clopidogrel and effient wasn't around for me to use. However, I do remember reading some articles on this medication. Although it has been approved for patient use, it does have one concern. If you are on this drug and have surgery such as a bypass, it tends to cause severe bleeding, which can be fatal. Clopidrogrel (plavix) has no such problem attached to it. On the plus side, it reduces other risks dramatically and outperforms clopidogrel hands down.
Avatar n tn Severe joint and back pain usually is not a side effect of Plavix. Coumadin is more powerful than Plavix. The Plavix is important to take especially if you have coated stents. You may want to be checked for arthritis that may be flaring up. Coumadin is not to be used in persons with high cholesterol.
Avatar m tn It is marketed directly to consumers in commercials that the FDA said were misleading because they misrepresented the drug and its serious side-effects. Patients come into your doctor’s office and ask for Plavix by name. Your doctor probably never heard of Nattokinase. * Do not take Plavix and aspirin together. Do not take Plavix with Nexilum, Prevacid or Prilosec. * Plavix has serious side effects, one of which is mental confusion. Another serious side effect is ulcers.
Avatar m tn ◦allergic to aspirin (note: patients with a history of aspirin-induced gastrointestinal bleeding should receive aspirin plus a proton-pump inhibitor) ◦prior MI (over 1 year previous) or stroke, and at high risk of vascular events ◦peripheral vascular disease that is symptomatic or was surgically corrected. .Use clopidogrel (Plavix) (75 mg/day) plus aspirin (81-162 mg/day) and re-assess after 1 year in these patients: ◦acute MI within past year ◦coronary stent insertion within past year.

Avatar f tn As of the present, ongoing post-marketing surveillance or phase IV trials, there has been no direct evidence of these drugs causing such conditions especially CLL. But, this does not mean that we can totally rule out the association. These side effects would usually take several years or even decades to come out if ever there is really an association, and for these drugs, it may seem too early to tell if these side effects will come out.

Avatar n tn Plavix/clopidogrel is mainly an anti-platelet drug (they are *usually* used artery-side, e.g., to prevent strokes or heart attacks). The other drugs mentioned are anticoagulants (which interfere with coagulant proteins such as Factor Xa -- they are usually used venous-side, e.g., preventing DVT after orthopedic surgery). Either type might be used for the in between, which is the heart: for AFib clotting/strokes. I don't know why your doc preferred to prescribe Plavix for DVT.
Avatar f tn About 1-1/2 months ago he started experiencing mild itching on his legs and has now become chronic all over his body. Most of his meds have rash and itching side effects. Aggrenox was just changed to Plavix, but the itching has not stopped. 325mg of aspirin is also a future consideration as a blood thinner. He was given Ativan 0.5mg two days ago to stop the itching. The first night he practically scratched two wholes in his paralyzed arm.
Avatar n tn Some surgeons request that a patient not be on plavix or warfarin at the time of surgery in order to minimize the risk of bleeding. Traditionally, the effects of plavix on platelets is minimal after 5 days. Usually, blood clots normally about three days after taking warfarin. This is quite variable and can be confirmed by a blood test (either checking INR or prothrombin time), prior to surgery.
Avatar n tn And she told me to take some Xanax and either I make a choice between taking the Plavix or Ticlid. I told her that the Plavix was out of the question and I would deal with the side effects of the Ticlid. She is telling me that there is really no other medicine out there because of me being so sensitive to give to me. This has become a really frustrating process and I know it can only get better from here. She wants me to have some blood work done again.
Avatar n tn The blood in your mouth is most likely because of the Plavix along with the bruising. It is the side effects.
