Common Questions and Answers about Plavix problems

plavix

Avatar m tn After informing my Cardiologist, he said okay, in fact he said it has been 4 years with no problems, so just stay off the Plavix permanently...After reading so many horror stories, I am concerned...I have been on Plavix for 4 years along with an 81 Mg aspirin. I think I will continue the aspirin...but this is day 3 and no problems thus far.. This discussion is related to Plavix dosing following drug eluting stents.
Avatar n tn Tell the dentist you take Plavix. If it's a problem with the procedure, he/she will tell you, but I wouldn't quit taking it with talking first to your heart doc.
Avatar f tn Aspirin is for life, but once plavix is eventually stopped, the clotting factor does increase. I have noticed no real problems on plavix. I think the only problem comes if you require further surgery. Stenting is fine with plavix, they gave me 600mg before my last angioplasty.
Avatar n tn While I agree Plavix caused me problems, my RUQ episode was textbook biliary colic. 4 years ago after pregnancy I had a week of clay-colored stools and RUQ pain after eating potato chips. No labs were done and US found no stones. I avoided fatty foods for years and had no other problems until now. I also had one recent episode 8 weeks ago involving taking IB & APAP over 5 days for sore throat where I got bruising, fatigue, frequent urination, and muscle weakness.
Avatar n tn My husband had his first heart attack in November 2006 and took plavix for one year. At that time the doctor took him off plavix and then just four short months later he suffered another heart attack with much heart damage. We questioned this as he had placed two stents at the time of his first heart attack, but he said the new thinking was to stop the plavix after one year. He did no further testing or anything.
Avatar f tn I was also advised to stop Plavix about three weeks ago, and have no problems. I was kept on the drug for three years after my last stent because I went through a very, very active CAD period resulting in multiple stents. I was told I might have to be on it for life, but the fact that I haven't had a blockage since 2007 and my blood is thinned very well with just one 81mg aspirin. I'm delighted.
Avatar m tn Structual collapse of a stent would indicate an improper size or defect. I discontinued plavix after year, and I have never heard of plavix associated with a collapsed stent! There may be a misunderstanding.
Avatar n tn I believe the problems with Vitamin K are with Warafin & Coumadin. They may not apply to Plavix. You might want to ask your doctor.
Avatar m tn I had 2 stents put in about 5 months ago and started on Plavix.. Since that time, I have had problems with chest pain and stomach pain, along with a host of other pains. I had a second cath to look at my heart because of the chest pain and the heart was said to be fine. Having a hard time sleeping at night and anxiety is building because of the pain. Anyone else have these issues? Also, is there a blood test that can be given to see if the Plavix even works for my gene make-up?
Avatar f tn There are no documented evidence that plavix causes stomach bloating. Plavix is a medication that helps prevent clot formation, and there is increased risk for excessive bleeding.
1210142 tn?1266077031 I think plavix is very important for CAD sufferers. The half life of plavix is short anyway, so if it came to some emergency, it wouldn't take long for the effect to wear off.
255163 tn?1376869746 My heart Dr will not let me go off the plavix and my surgeon will not do the surgery while on plavix. What happens in a situation like this?. I am between a rock and a hard place. If neither Dr gives in what do I do? If I have an attack and end up in the ER wouldn't they have to do emergency sugery?. Does this mean that anyone on plavix can never have surgery unless it's an ermergency. What is your opinion on going off plavix temporarily for surgery. I would welcome anyones advice.
Avatar m tn About 4 years ago during a routine Echo stress we discovered I had blockage in the LAD and diagonal. I had drug-eluting stents put in and I have been on 75MG Plavix, 50MG Toprol XL, 81mg aspirin, and 80mg simvastatin ever since. I never had any symptoms and I still have none. Just wondering about a professional opinion about being on these medications for life as well as the efficacy of generic drugs. I obviously am also concerned about possible restenosis in the stents.
482754 tn?1341791494 Has anyone been prescribed the new plavix alternative called Effient? If so can you tell me about any side effects? I had an Everluminous drug eluding stent placed in the right coronary artery in May of this year and was placed on plavix and aspirin therapy. I've had no problems since the placement except for a severe allergic skin reaction which the dermatologist thinks is from the plavix.
Avatar m tn From the article: The Dangers Of Plavix from Top Form Secrets... “Why didn’t my doctor tell me about Nattokinase?” Instead of telling you about Nattokinase (a natural and healthy blood clot dissolver derived from a Japanese food, natto) your doctor probably told you about Plavix. Plavix is one of the top-selling drugs in the world. It earns more than a billion dollars a year for Bristol-Myers.
Avatar m tn Recently diagnosed with irregular heartbeat. (no previous heart problems) Doctor prescribed Digoxin 1.25 MCG per day, and Plavix , to be taken in addition to 81 MG aspirin, (which I have been taking daily for years). My question: Is it safe and is it necessary to take Plavix with aspirin?
Avatar m tn I am taking plavix for 10 years for a long history with heart problems. Stent, heart attack etc.. I am wondering how long a person should be on this.
Avatar n tn After my initial stent I was taken off plavix after 2 years and had no problems at all. I am obviously on aspirin for life.
214864 tn?1229715239 Now this surgeon that is going to remove my GB, wants me to stop plavix for 9 days. I plan to take it through the surgery, unless any of you have had significant problems during minor surgery, while on Plavix. My blood is very thick, due to high cholesterol and lack of statin toleration. I am having problems finding (chemically) just what the big deal is. All of my six DES stents are older than one year.
Avatar n tn The protocol guidelines are aspirin and plavix for year or a little longer if the implant was DES. Drug enduced stents have propensity to form a clot when compared to bare metal stents. After a year the consensus is to continue aspirin (81mg is OK), and unless there is a special need for an additional anti-platelet medication the plavix should be discontinued based on the risk of uncontrolled bleeding, etc. is greater than any benefit.
1210142 tn?1266077031 I've stopped plavix twice now after a year, my Doctor insists there is no evidence to suggest any benefits after a year. I was also on Omeprazole with Plavix both times. My Doc said the evidence is weak, and if it does reduce the effects of plavix, then it's only slight. Until more conclusive studies are done, who knows.
Avatar f tn my mother was asked to stop taking plavix by her cardiologist and since then has had severe headaches and increased blood pressure. She is already taking 2 blood pressure medications to control blood pressure, micardis and nifedipine xl. Do you think her increased bp is due to her coming off of plavix? She does have a pace maker and stints.
Avatar m tn How long am I suppesed to take plavix after stint placement? Is taking aspiran with plavix healthy?
Avatar n tn I have three drug eluting stents in the LAD, two non-drug eluting stents and three drug eluting stents in my RCA. I stayed on Plavix for 1.5 years after the last stent, and been off Plavix for over a year with no restinosis. I do exercise daily, take Vytorin, 81mg aspirin, and follow a healthy heart diet very carefully. So far, no problems with restenosis, but believe me, I think about it every day.
