plavix

161427 tn?1229911282 She had a bleeder in the brain and they stopped plavix. The difference in her being off after just two days was nothing short of amazing. Doctors won't consider using garlic and fish oil to reduce the plavix dosage on people who had strokes because they think it puts them at risk for a lawsuit if the person has another stoke on "non-conventional" treatment.
Avatar n tn He needs to take the medications as prescribed by the doctor and to make sure to take the Plavix for as long as the doctor prescribes. Some doctors prescribe taking the Plavix for a lifetime and other prescribed it for 6 month to a year. Plavix really helps avoid the blood clots. Shortness of breath when walking would be a warning sign that something is wrong and he should let his doctor know if this happens.
Avatar m tn The drugs may make the anti-clotting drug Plavix dangerously less effective, the FDA says. They block an enzyme in the body that turns the drug into its active form. Plavix is the second most-prescribed drug in the world. It's not the first time questions have been raised about the potent stomach-acid-reducing drug Prilosec blunting the benefit of Plavix.
612551 tn?1450022175 The Plavix is widely advertised and available in the USA. I have discussed with my cardiologist in past years. He said, no way is it a substitute fo warfarin... but again I tolerate warfarin well. But too, I've never had any severe cuts while on warfarin.
Avatar n tn my mother has a blood clot in her aorta. today she had a shunt put in. The doctor put her on plavics is this safe?
623823 tn?1357416657 I just came back from nuerosurgeon, he told me that I need to have fusion of L4-L5 due to severe stenosis. However, he told me that he will not perform the surgery until I am off of Plavix for 6 weeks. He told me that the risk is too high to be off it for less time. Of course I am not so sure about coming off of Plavix due to having late stent thrombosis last time I quit plavix. He said that it may be best to make lifestyle changes to limit pain and try to manage it.
Avatar n tn i feel your pain i have had 7 stents since 2006 and have taken plavix since the firsy stent in 2006 good thing its only a 20.
Avatar f tn Can being on plavix and asprin daily for 3 years cause blood in the urine---all testing shows nothing wrong anywhere.
Avatar f tn My new stents in Sept 09 require plavix for 2-3 years minimum. They seem to now believe the longer you are on plavix the better, to prevent clogging of stents. They should be taking blood tests to make sure her clotting factor is as required. I assume she is on aspirin daily also? Aspirin is for life, but once plavix is eventually stopped, the clotting factor does increase. I have noticed no real problems on plavix. I think the only problem comes if you require further surgery.
Avatar n tn You can also go the the plavix website and ask them for a fact sheet that would have the side effect listed.
Avatar n tn I have two non medicated stents in my LAD. I take 75mg of Plaxi once a day and one 81mg asprin once a day. I have been on Plaxix for 9 years. Can I safely stop taking Plavix and continue with th 81mg of asprin. I did not have a heart attack, I had an agina attack. I had open heart surgery, one bypass in the LAD in 2000. I am bruising very easy lately and wonder if I'm doing more harm than good with the current medications.
Avatar m tn News is in, I did not have a stroke, it is most likely the chiari or maybe a syrinx of tethered cord.
976897 tn?1379167602 Just to complicate the Plavix/generic Plavix issue, I was told to stop taking Plavix after bypass surgery, and the bruising immediately became a bigger issue and remains a bigger problem today. I'm not sure the bruising/bleeding issue is completely understood. I still take 80mg aspirin, and wonder if that is the cause. pippi331, sometimes one is allergic to the filler with generic drugs. I'd sure report your situation as soon as possible.
535822 tn?1443976780 The New York Post today has said that there is a push for the 9/11 Trial to go to Govenor's Island , A lower Manhatton Community board called on fed officails yesterday to move the trail of the terrorists to Govenor's Island and passed a resolution demanding the shift, in a hearing with Downtown Residents who loathe the idea of the threats that would ensue and the lockdown it would involve, this makes sense to me , what say you ....
Avatar n tn s been taking Coumadin and Plavix for the past 4-5 years since his last stent was put in. Recently he was rushed to the hospital with blood in his vomit and stools. They said he had last 60% of his blood and immediately preceeded to give him blood, total 9 pints. After much reading up on ulcers and his medicine's side-effects, we discovered that Plavix causes ulcers. He was bleeding from a huge ulcer in his stomach. They immediately DC'd his Coumadin and Plavix.
Avatar m tn A drop from 12 to 10 is substantial and it must be quite a bleed. It isn't easy to see the source of a bleed, even blood collected in the body. Are they saying it's the plavix? Are his white cells elevated in the blood indicating any kind of immune response to something such as an infection?
Avatar f tn Three weeks after stopping Plavix for the surgery I was back in the cath lab and had a stint inserted. I do not come off Plavix for any reason now. I have 6 stints in my heart and one in my neck. Last week they would not remove my cataract because it was only 3 months since I had 2 stints inserted in my heart. Could not do it until six months had passed. I had open heart in 2004.
Avatar f tn Due to your fall, you are at a higher risk for a DVT (deep vein thrombosis). The good news is that the Eloquis you are taking for your aFib and the Plavix for your stent significantly decrease your risk of blood clotting, but will not decrease the risk to zero. I would urge you to see your primary care provider or even visit an urgent care. If there is concern for a DVT, it can easily be ruled in or out with a venous duplex ultrasound. Ultrasound is both noninvasive and painless.
Avatar n tn t repeated actually, you would have a lot of trouble removing a Stent without wrecking the artery. In the majority of cases other blockages form elsewhere because the patient hasn't made the effort to change their lifestyle in any way. Stents 'can' block but this is very rare with the newer stents. You could ask 100 people which they would prefer, stent or bypass, and you would probably have a range of opinions why one should be chosen over the other. Mostly based from experience.
Avatar n tn The blood in your mouth is most likely because of the Plavix along with the bruising. It is the side effects. The circulation is from your heart medication and heart medication makes you tired. You need the heart medication and Plavix and it would be risking to stop the Plavix. Lipitor is good for studies have shown that it has helped reduce cholesterol buildup in the arteries.
315318 tn?1353251800 I am not allergic to Plavix but unresponsive. According to the hospital staff I was in last week, I am in the 30% of the population who can not convert Plavix to its active form and therefore they prescribed Effient. This is the same staff who prescribed fenofibrate ! I just read about the interaction of fibrates and statins on drugs.com before I saw your message. I had a vague feeling about the interaction and that's why I stopped it yesterday.
Avatar n tn When plavix is stopped, I don't think it causes an existing stent to block. There is no evidence to suggest there is any benefit for taking plavix for more than a year, and this is the protocol which still stands in the UK. I've had 10 stents and stopped plavix after a year each time, with no stents becoming blocked. There is also a suggestion that plavix does absolutely nothing for women.
Avatar n tn s that recommend plavix up to a year or more after stent implants. From what I have read, plavix has a different mecnanism that prevents platelet formation (clots) and with aspirin it is the best regimen...but with renal insufficiency there may be other consideratioins.
Avatar m tn As of today, he was told he will be on Plavix the rest of his life. I wanted to know if the use of Plavix would cause problems with him continuing to qualify for a cdl to drive his tractor trailer?
9088869 tn?1401639939 He had told me also today that the change in the dose surprised him in going from taking 2-3 to just 1 dose per day. It was quite obvious today wasn't the results he had hoped for. I know nothing about TSI and wouldn't know if I saw the figures what it represented. He gives me copies of the lab report but it only shows TSH and Free T4. If anything else is checked it's not on the form he gives me. The do usually take about three vials of blood.
1679243 tn?1307674938 This is more of a question about Warfarin, Plavix, blood thinning treatment ect... I was swimming yesterday with my kids and was rubbing my eyes a good bit. Afterwards my wife noticed my left eye was bleeding, not pouring blood but there is blood in the white part of my eye. Doesn't hurt or bother me it's just a nice size blood spot. I've been on Warfarin and Plavix and a daily baby aspirin for over 6 months to treat my heart disease.
255163 tn?1376869746 If so, did you ever have surgery where you had to stop the plavix for 7days. If your completly off the plavix, when were you able to stop it after the coated stents were put in?
