The opinions keep changing regarding plavix. It has a different mechanism for anti-platelet formation that aspirin doesn't have as it pertains to restenosis with drug eluding stents. Then the regimen of choice is dual therapy of aspirin and plavix for about a year and then aspirin alone. Do you have a specific condition that requires all the blood thinning medication?

I logged in with a question about plavix, aspirin, and ibuprofen...i wanted to include a little background info. had a heart attack when i was 35, two stents and am now 41. other medications include coreg 25mg 2/day, procardia 60mg 2/day, diovan/hctz 160/25mg, clonidine .2mg 2/day, zocor 40mg, and anxiety meds (imagine that). two weeks ago, my cardiologist added procardia 30mg/as needed for controlling bp in midafternoon. i spend too much time with meds . is there anything i'm missing?

Hi I am 38 year old female that on March 14th I woke up that morning with a headache, took 2 ibuprofen and didn't really think anything of it. While cooking dinner I began to see things thru both eyes that I have never seen before this lasted a few minutes. They were like half circles in zig zag shape to the left side of both eyes that also were electrifying looking as if to say like electricity. My left arm and hand began to feel funny almost jelly like and weak.

I have been taking Plavix 75 MG daily. A recent plavix test showed it was not helping. Now my PA has me on 150 MG Plavix. I really bleed when scratched now. Should I take the Plavix test again to see if the increased dossage is working? I am also taking 325 mg asprin.

Did your doctor determine that you risk was so high that he wanted you on Plavix long term, these are the only circumstances that using Plavix long term would be.

My heart Dr will not let me go off the plavix and my surgeon will not do the surgery while on plavix. What happens in a situation like this?. I am between a rock and a hard place. I HAVE 3STENTS AND i can't come off Plavix.. My Cardio wants me on the plavix indefintely, so will not give me the ok to stop the plavix for 10 days and the Surgeon will not do the procedure with me on the plavix. I'm in a no win situation. Structual collapse of a stent would indicate an improper size or defect. I discontinued plavix after year, and I have never heard of plavix associated with a collapsed stent! There may be a misunderstanding.

You need the vicodin for the pain because of the abscess and short term usage isn't going hurt you. Ibuprofen can also be taken as long as we keep it within the recommended dosage. Most hepatologists recommend Tylenol for pain as long as we follow the prescribed dosage either on the bottle or what our liver docs prescribe. Those of us with advanced liver disease are allowed at least 2000 mg within a 24 hr period.

Plavix and aspirin have different mechanism of action to prevent clots. After a year, plavix is usually discontinue as the risk for clots is decreased, and aspirin is continued long term. Please note that the article mention plavix as used as "prevention of stroke" here we are speaking of Plavix to avoid restenosis and clots in the case that you have medical stents implanted. The situation is quite different.

I was on plavix for 18 months for my first stent and it never formed clots, but I believe there have been cases where it has happened. IF clots are going to form, they are usually very quickly as the plavix wears off. You don't have to ween off plavix, you simply stop it. It isn't a medication that affects your metabolism or mental state. Is it your general Doctor or Cardiologist who has stopped the medication? In the UK we are told we will be on Plavix 2-3 years or even possibly life.
