I am on Plavix for my Heart Attack and my husband is on Coumadin for a blood clot he had 3 years ago 1 month after he had broken his ankle and had to have surgery. I say he should be off the Coumadin already. He went back to work full time after the broken ankle and also lost 60 lbs. He says the Plavix is just as bad.

My husband had his first heart attack in November 2006 and took plavix for one year. At that time the doctor took him off plavix and then just four short months later he suffered another heart attack with much heart damage. We questioned this as he had placed two stents at the time of his first heart attack, but he said the new thinking was to stop the plavix after one year. He did no further testing or anything.

Can I safely stop taking Plavix and continue with th 81mg of asprin. I did not have a heart attack, I had an agina attack. I had open heart surgery, one bypass in the LAD in 2000. I am bruising very easy lately and wonder if I'm doing more harm than good with the current medications.

My heart Dr will not let me go off the plavix and my surgeon will not do the surgery while on plavix. What happens in a situation like this?. I am between a rock and a hard place. If neither Dr gives in what do I do? If I have an attack and end up in the ER wouldn't they have to do emergency sugery?. Does this mean that anyone on plavix can never have surgery unless it's an ermergency. What is your opinion on going off plavix temporarily for surgery. I would welcome anyones advice.

Now I would only take aspirin if I felt that I was having another heart attack. The latest precaution about Plavix is to not take omeprazole with it (Prilosec, Prevacid or Nexium). Hope that helps, but you really need a cardiologist.

Can you explain the breathing problem you have? and did you suffer a heart attack? when did you have the stent put in? what medication are you on? If you have been put on plavix, this can cause breathing problems in some people but is very rare as a side effect. So can beta blockers. I believe there is an alternative medication now for plavix which your Doctor could try you on.

My husband had his first heart attack at age 49. He had 4 stents put in. He was on Plavix for a year - then his cardio took him off. 5 months later he had another heart attack. He is doing fine, but they are now telling us that he will probably be on Plavix for the rest of this life. That is fine with us - I would hate to worry about another clot forming. I have both DES and drug eluting stents and have had heart attacks, and took Plavix for several years. About a year ago I went off Plavix and have not experienced a heart attack or restinosis. I remain on 81mg aspirin. While still taking Plavix, I had the misfortune of developing a bowel obstruction which required emergency surgery. The fact that I was was taking Plavix was a major concern, and the surgery took place expecting bleeding problems.

I went to the hospital with chest pain. They said I was having a heart attack and gave some medicine, I think called thrombosis to break up the clot. They then put a cathader in my wrist and checked my heart. No damage was found. My ekg is normal. Why do I have to take so many medications if everything is as it was before.

Just had angioplasty for a heart attack and thought I would post the experiences so others can hopefully benefit in some way or other.
