plavix

Avatar m tn I have a high deductibule ins policy I have found several web sights that offer generic Plavix or [clopidogrel] that is suginifantly cheeper than brand name Plavix Will the generic work as good as plavix? Or is it just a plasebo?
Avatar m tn A recent plavix test showed it was not helping. Now my PA has me on 150 MG Plavix. I really bleed when scratched now. Should I take the Plavix test again to see if the increased dossage is working? I am also taking 325 mg asprin.
976897 tn?1379167602 Just to complicate the Plavix/generic Plavix issue, I was told to stop taking Plavix after bypass surgery, and the bruising immediately became a bigger issue and remains a bigger problem today. I'm not sure the bruising/bleeding issue is completely understood. I still take 80mg aspirin, and wonder if that is the cause. pippi331, sometimes one is allergic to the filler with generic drugs. I'd sure report your situation as soon as possible.
Avatar m tn It has been shown that generic drugs is not any different than the non-generic. Its the same chemicals but the original drug maker has lost their patent rights. Patent rights are a method to help the orginal maker recover research and develpment costs. Thanks for your question. Take care.
Avatar n tn There are 3 serious medical conditions (right-side heart failure, uncontrolled bleeding, and clots (pulmonary embolism and thrombosis) that requires consideration when prescribing medication. Anticoagulants are effective in preventing pulmonary embolism and deep vein thrombosis, but there is a risk for bleeding. More than 80 percent of patients with massive PE die within the first two hours after onset, mainly from right-sided heart failure.
Avatar n tn In 2005 had MI with occlusion of the LAD artery and had drug stent inserted and I am still on plavix. My doc has debated when to take me off the Plavix safely....what are the recent studies about this dilemma? thanks so much!
Avatar n tn Yes, there is a generic (Clopidogrel), and I was on it for awhile. By law it contains the same chemical ingredients. You can search the internet for clopidogrel prices. I found the following that is available over the internet, however, I haven't compared the generic prices with a resident drug store. 5mg × 30 pills $28.95 $0.96 75mg × 60 pills $50.74 $0.85 $7.16 75mg × 90 pills $74.04 $0.82 $12.81 75mg × 120 pills $94.94 $0.79 $20.86 75mg × 180 pills $136.75 $0.76 $36.
Avatar n tn My general Doctor said to come off both Aspirin and Plavix for 3 days before and 2 days after. When I mentioned this to my cardiologist he wasn't happy at all. He said it should have been 24 hours before and after. So I agree with Flycaster305, I would ask the Cardiologist.
Avatar f tn Hi Ray....I agree w/ed34. Warfarin is generic for Coumadin. Since it is the generic for brand Coumadin it is given in same dose. Mom took Warfarin for the 1st three months after her event. Month four, the pharmacy was temporarily out so I took brand name Coumadin (more$$, of course ;-) but it was the exact same dose. Month five, she was back on Warfarin. Best to you...
Avatar n tn Small dose aspirin is fine to take with Plavix. Plavix is good so that you do not develop blood clots especially if you have coated stents. Some doctors recommend 6 months to a year on Plavix and some recommend for life. Plavix will help to avoid having heart attacks and strokes. The blood in your mouth is most likely because of the Plavix along with the bruising. It is the side effects. The circulation is from your heart medication and heart medication makes you tired.
Avatar n tn I am 67yom, and wanted to know more about taking Plavix (s/p stent x1). when was it introduce for usage ?, and How long can one take it with out hurting other parts of body?...My Dr seems to think that I'm to old to know anybetter (just from him always changing the subject or answering the phone just when I need an answer). Plavix is so exs pensive for me...on some days, my choose is food, and or medician. This discussion is related to <a href='http://www.medhelp.
Avatar f tn That being said, perhaps you have been prescribed a beta blocker for the first time, or the dose of an existing beta blocker has been increased. This can cause breathlessness as well. Are you taking Plavix or the generic equivalent? I think the Endeavor stent is a drug eluting product and Plavix is recommended for any stent of that type. I had breathlessness after one stent procedure and it was discovered indeed I had a problem that needed attention, I would report your symptoms.
482517 tn?1208551378 After a DES in my Circumflex, how long is it neccessary to take plavix? Will aspirin do the trick as well? Dr says we can stop it "...if I want to take my chances..." (not a good answer) What's the longest anyone's taken (taking) it w/no probs? Lastly, if I have restenosis, or a throw a clot in my Circumflex, would it be over or is that a "secondary" area?
Avatar n tn I was also told by my pharmicist that Plavix has a generic coming out in July. Ask your pharmicist if there is a generic of Niaspan due out any time soon. And as Flycaster has stated, with the Niacin there is a flushing feeling also. It only bothered me if I didn't take an aspirin just before taking the niacin. My doctor told me about that.
Avatar f tn He prescribed Septra generic DS. It made me so sick that I called him back and asked what to do and he said it would be alright to take a half pill twice a day instead of a whole one. This is the second time I've had a bladder infection in two months. The first time was when I was in the hospital. No catheter was used. They sent me home with a script for Septra and it cleared up with in 5 days. This time I'm on day 7 and I'm still having some pain and urgency.
Avatar f tn I had several TIA's 5 years ago. A history of strokes runs in my mother's family. You need to take this very seriously. I still have memory problems which the doctors say is a combination of aging and the TIA's. I take lipitor (generic) and plavix (generic) because of my (and family) history. You definitely need to stop smoking, exercise, watch your diet and monitor your salt intake.
338416 tn?1420045702 Thanks, Ren! That explains a lot. I knew there was a connection between the lupus anticoagulant and blood clots, but I couldn't figure out whether it was because of the lupus, or something else. Currently I'm off the warfarin - I just had a doppler earlier this year, and my leg was clear of clots. My doctor recommended aspirin for me, and he wanted to put me on Plavix. I resisted, because Plavix is just so dang expensive.
Avatar f tn Able to walk around and even drive but still a problem with deep breaths. After triple bypass 13 years ago I have been on Plavix, now generic, and. cholesterol, blood pressure normal. No problems until shortness of breath upon exertion about three weeks ago. 65 year old male. What could be causing the shortness of breath after the angiogram. Also have a dry cough but it's not bad.
Avatar m tn Thank you both for the replies. I am on generic Plavix for a year and 325 mg. aspirin for 6 months, followed by 81 forever, and a generic Lipitor. Doctor said lawn mowing is OK, so I bought a self propelled one which makes it no more effort than my normal hiking. Now I have an excuse for avoiding the heavy work. My son agrees and besides he owes me one. I never had a sweet tooth and eat very little refined sugar.
Avatar f tn I'm 45 years old an had bypass surgery 8 weeks ago. I haven't been able to sleep without an Ambien(sleeping pill) for the last 5 weeks. I was wondering how long it may be before I can sleep without a pill. I'm currently taking Toprol, Iron, 81 Asprin, Plavix, Primovel and Lipitor. My doctor wants to change my Lipitor to Vytorin. I have heard the Vyrotin doesn't work. Any thoughts? Also how long do the grafts last in your heart? Mine were taken out of my leg.
Avatar m tn It is inappropriate to giver a plavix one day and an aspirin the next. Pubmed, the US medical database, has studies that suggest in many cases aspirin alone is an acceptable anti-coagulant. One of the most important things to avoid another TIA is to keep well hydrated.
Avatar m tn When you came off plavix before, how long had you been taking it? How long have you had these stents? When you stopped your plavix and had a heart attack in 2 days, was it a clot in the stents or somewhere else?
Avatar n tn My cardiologist would not let my dentist allow me to stop taking Plavix for even 5 days to alleviate my pain due to a cavity .The dentist is bent upon my discontinuing Plavix to enable filling of the cavity or do root canal to solve the problem.
Avatar f tn Easy bruising; minor bleeding.
Avatar f tn I had an MI in '05, and had a RCA stent placed. I was on plavix apox. 4 yrs because of family hx and my paranoia of another MI. I recently have been experiencing tingling and numbness in my hands upon awaking and have noticed small spider veins appearing on my thighs. I am a nurse on a MedSurg unit. I am concerned that my stent is becoming occulded. My doctor took me off plavix Jan'10 and kept me on 325 Aspirin.
Avatar f tn There are big risks when one takes Plavix if you need emergency surgery or have an accident involving bleeding. I experienced an unexpected condition that required immediate surgery two years ago when taking Plavix (double bowel obstruction), and I had to have transfusions during the surgery. Hopefully, you work out or walk or do some form of exercise.
