Plavix for dvt prophylaxis

Common Questions and Answers about Plavix for dvt prophylaxis

plavix

Avatar f tn I am a 67 year old female. I am on Plavix (for subclavian stent) and Eliquis (for AFib). I was visiting my son and grandchildren when their half pit bull jumped up on me and took me by surprise. She knocked me down and I fell on my left side terribly bruising my hip (has moderate pain) and bruising my calf and my ankle. My whole calf and ankle are swollen. I have never been in really bad pain but the calf hurts worse than the hip.
Avatar m tn I watched an online surgery video recording where a patient had stents inserted. The cardiologists then took questions from an audience of doctors and the public. One question posed was "does plavix have to be stopped for dental surgery". The reply was "no, plavix has actually been shown not to produce uncontrollable bleeding and even a tooth extraction is very safe". This was a video from 2009, so I'm wondering if the general concensus has now altered.
Avatar f tn Thank you for your comment; i know that plavix was not designed for Afib, but could that be used for stroke prevention instead of coumadin when the individual can not tolerate coumadin and longer? we are searching for anything that could provide a better quality of life for him and since the coumadin is clearly effecting his memory he has said that he's about done with it and wants to just get off of it.
Avatar n tn s test results, but they said that was irrelevant since they put me on Plavix. Is this right? Does Plavix address folic acid, B6 and B12 deficiencies? Should I insist on getting tested? My total cholesterol level is 118, and the cardiologist wh did the cath said my arteries looked "as smooth as a baby's bottom".
Avatar n tn > Coumadin and Plavix are both anti-platelet agents as well as aspirin that might just be a typo, but I'll go ahead anyway and point out that Coumadin is not antiplatelet, it's an anticoagulant. It works as a vitamin K antagonist, and vit K is necessary for the synthesis of prothrombin and Factor VII.
Avatar f tn Several weeks ago, the cardiologist took me off of Coumadin and added two 81-mg, aspirin and recommended that I stay on the Plavix for the biopsy. The radiologist's office contacted the cardiologist and they agreed I could go off Plavix for seven days prior to the biopsy. At this point, I am more concerned about a blood clot in my stents than breast cancer. Is it safe for me to discontinue Plavix?
Avatar m tn My boyfriend just had his second stent in the last month put in and they told him that he would be on Plavix for a year but he would be on Aspirin from now on. I guess it just depends on how bad the blockages are his were 90% blocked both times. After the did the first stent they told us it would only be a month on Plavix but after the last episode they decided that he needed to be on it for a year. He is also taking 2 blood pressure pills, Coreg, and Zocor.

Avatar n tn If it's growing pain then you should go check it out, DVT can go unnoticed for a long time. It usually happens in older ages (60+) but DVT can happen in ANY age.
Avatar n tn I am asking for a friend. Is there an alternative drug to cumadin, for example, plavix?
Avatar m tn I also wonder about the need for procedures like colonoscopy or other such procedures where the Plavix may cause a concern. Any thoughts?

1013028 tn?1250923267 Hi Linda, The lupus anticoagulants usually interfere with blood clotting and are also factors for thrombosis. Patients with a lupus anticoagulant are prone to excess bleeding, repeated miscarriages, thrombosis and strokes. Patients with a lupus anticoagulant that presents atleast twice and a history of thrombosis should be given indefinite treatment with anticoagulants. Thrombosis can be prevented with heparin administration and treated with heparin and warfarin.
Avatar m tn The Gastric Bypass requires me to be off of Plavix for 7-14 days. My cardiologist is opposed to discontinuation of platelet therapy for a short time in order to have a proceddure. I want to know why it is recommended to remain on plavix for a minimum of 12 months after the stent? Does the risk of thormbosis decrease so significantly at 12 months that it is worth the risk of another Major Cardiac Event?
Avatar f tn So was told nothing could be done for my DVT.
Avatar f tn The pain only occur after I walk or stand, and usually get better after I rest for 10-15 minutes. For the last 2 months, the pain in getting worst, now I also have pain in my back, hip and in my right calf. I have an X-Ray done last week, my x-ray showed mild arthritis in the disc spaces of L3-4 and L5-S1. The sacroiliac joints looked normal. I had already tried prednisone but the condition did not improve.
237039 tn?1264258057 I neglected to take my Plavix for one week and ended up in the hospital with multiple clots in both legs. I was in ICU and in the hospital for 10 days. I am also now on Coumadin also. This thins the blood so it flows throughout your arteries easily. My levels always have to be checked. I bruise terribly from taking this, but it's better than the alternative.
Avatar n tn Should a 59 years old male with severe CAD, Renal Insufficiency (has been on dialysis for 1 1/2 years), had cuadriple heart bypass four years ago and is getting a stent today for coronary obstruction and has been on Coumadin for several years, will have to add Plavix to his treatment or is Coumadin enough for anticoagulation and antiplatelet effect?
