Common Questions and Answers about Plavix for cva

plavix

Avatar n tn Been on Plavix for 6 years for 5 DES stents. Very recent, I had an event monitor for 3 years of ongoing, sporadic irregular heart beats that causes 5-8 seconds of dizziness/lightheadedness. Finally caught it on the event Monitor. Doctor said monitor showed Atrial flutter in the upper chambers of heart. Told me to get off the Plavix and she would RX Pradexa which is like coumadin.(never been on coumadin or heparin) I am 74 years old and also take Nexium, Crestor, Avalide 150/12.
Avatar f tn Several weeks ago, the cardiologist took me off of Coumadin and added two 81-mg, aspirin and recommended that I stay on the Plavix for the biopsy. The radiologist's office contacted the cardiologist and they agreed I could go off Plavix for seven days prior to the biopsy. At this point, I am more concerned about a blood clot in my stents than breast cancer. Is it safe for me to discontinue Plavix?
Avatar m tn My boyfriend just had his second stent in the last month put in and they told him that he would be on Plavix for a year but he would be on Aspirin from now on. I guess it just depends on how bad the blockages are his were 90% blocked both times. After the did the first stent they told us it would only be a month on Plavix but after the last episode they decided that he needed to be on it for a year. He is also taking 2 blood pressure pills, Coreg, and Zocor.

Avatar n tn I am asking for a friend. Is there an alternative drug to cumadin, for example, plavix?
Avatar m tn I also wonder about the need for procedures like colonoscopy or other such procedures where the Plavix may cause a concern. Any thoughts?
Avatar f tn He was rushed to the emergency room where they did a CT scan and blood work to rule out a CVA as they are common in their family history. All the tests came back negative. We are waiting for an MRI and to find out if it could be a blood clot. I am an LPN but have only been so for about a year. Any other ideas as to what this could be?

1013028 tn?1250923267 Hi Linda, The lupus anticoagulants usually interfere with blood clotting and are also factors for thrombosis. Patients with a lupus anticoagulant are prone to excess bleeding, repeated miscarriages, thrombosis and strokes. Patients with a lupus anticoagulant that presents atleast twice and a history of thrombosis should be given indefinite treatment with anticoagulants. Thrombosis can be prevented with heparin administration and treated with heparin and warfarin.
Avatar f tn I suffered a right brain CVA five years ago. I had left hemi paresis for almost a year. Five months post I started to move my left thumb. Within 11 months I gained movement in my left arm. Two years later I started walking without an ankle brace. Does anyone know how long this "heavy" feeling stays on one's affected side? It bothers me more when I'm tired. Appreciate any answers.
Avatar m tn The Gastric Bypass requires me to be off of Plavix for 7-14 days. My cardiologist is opposed to discontinuation of platelet therapy for a short time in order to have a proceddure. I want to know why it is recommended to remain on plavix for a minimum of 12 months after the stent? Does the risk of thormbosis decrease so significantly at 12 months that it is worth the risk of another Major Cardiac Event?
795660 tn?1237257549 I would like to know, how big is the risk? Recently had a MRA performed to me and there are a couple of terms that are unclear. The MRA talks about me having focal region of encephalomalacia at the left superior frontal lobe near midline. A small nonspecific foci of T2 prolongation is identified at the right superior frontal lobe centrum semiovale. and the basilar artery appears diffusely narrowed.
Avatar n tn Thanks for answering for me. I heard that CVA people will be cpmpletely cure by accupucture (chinese therapy). Is it possible?
Avatar m tn Hi Edot, Welcome to the Pain Management Forum. I am sorry that you suffered a CVA. I hope you have good follow-up care including rehab. How long ago was your CVA? There are several medications that help control spasms. I cannot tell you which one would be right for you. Much will depend on the other medications you are taking along with your general health condition. There are meds that were originally developed for ppl with Parkinson's Disease that may be beneficial in your case.
Avatar n tn Should a 59 years old male with severe CAD, Renal Insufficiency (has been on dialysis for 1 1/2 years), had cuadriple heart bypass four years ago and is getting a stent today for coronary obstruction and has been on Coumadin for several years, will have to add Plavix to his treatment or is Coumadin enough for anticoagulation and antiplatelet effect?
Avatar n tn Cancer, anywhere in the respiratory system, including throat, larynx and lungs can cause a cough, but once begun, it would be very unlikely for it to continue to diminish. For that reason, I agree with your primary care provider (PCP) and do not believe a visit to an ENT or a pulmonologist is warranted, unless the cough would recur/worsen in the immediate future. By convention, a cough is not considered chronic until it lasts more than 3 months.
Avatar m tn Are you on any acid reflux meds or anti depressants. It was recently reported that the PPIs for reflux inhibits the plavix from working. Same for SSRI anti depressants. I also would like to know what kind of blood test was given showing the plavix is not working. I didn't think there was such a test.
Avatar f tn My husband has been taking Plavix for 6 years and has recently been diagnosed with MDS Leukemia. I feel there may be a connection. Anyone else find this may be happening to them?
Avatar m tn It wasn't normal in 2007, but is becoming more common now to be put on plavix for life. It was generally believed that there is no benefit from plavix after a year, but evidence is mounting that shows clots can form quite rapidly if taken off this medication after that time. I'm not sure about 2xplavix pills a day, but I take an aspirin and a plavix, 75mg of each.
255163 tn?1376869746 Following this I was on Plavix for 3 months. Another patient in the same cardiac rehab class was the same - Plavix for 3 months, and yet another is still taking Plavix and has been told to continue taking it. Maybe a difference of opinion with our ccrdiologists although maybe it depends on what type of stent you have .
Avatar f tn I talked to my cardiologist and he said he had talked to the surgeon and for me to come off the Plavix for 10 days. Three weeks after stopping Plavix for the surgery I was back in the cath lab and had a stint inserted. I do not come off Plavix for any reason now. I have 6 stints in my heart and one in my neck. Last week they would not remove my cataract because it was only 3 months since I had 2 stints inserted in my heart. Could not do it until six months had passed. I had open heart in 2004.
