plavix

482754 tn?1341791494 Has anyone been prescribed the new plavix alternative called Effient? If so can you tell me about any side effects? I had an Everluminous drug eluding stent placed in the right coronary artery in May of this year and was placed on plavix and aspirin therapy. I've had no problems since the placement except for a severe allergic skin reaction which the dermatologist thinks is from the plavix.
Avatar m tn I was told with Effient I wouldnt have to stay on it for life like the Plavix. I was looking at the risks and fatal bleed charts and it increases the risk the longer I am on it. My liver enzymes are slightly elevated so I would like to remove anymore stress on my liver if its not needed. Also the surgeon wont touch my hernia surgery until I can stop taking it. Do you know when you can stop taking it or is it something you just have to keep taking?
Avatar f tn How long have you been on effient? I know when I have a stent and put back onto plavix, I feel heavy chested for about six months but it then seems to wear off. If your Cardiologist is not too concerned about the side effects, I would try to put up with them and see if your body adjusts. The benefits of this medication are very important to your stent.
315318 tn?1353251800 Well, you reduce that possibility by taking blood thinners like plavix, aspirin or the new Effient. As I said in my previous post, I am unresponsive to Plavix which leaves me with Effient. It is a brand new drug which gives me jitters ! Especially, when the label warns of serious bleeding as a side effect I am also fitted with a ICD / pacemaker. The device shocked me without reason weeks after being placed.
Avatar n tn On 3d catherization in 9 years, 2 stents placed end to end in LAD. Placed on 10mg Effient; after 5 weeks changed over to 75 mg Plavix (also take 30 mg Isosorbide monitrate along w/0.81 mg aspirin. For first 4+ weeks heaviness in chest w/periodic angina. Notice with excitement or now-a propensity to become angrier easier, have chest pains for awhile. I have always been very healthy and full of energy-that is, until this year.
Avatar n tn Prior to that I had virtually no symptoms, and no risk factors except for stress, and the cause of the heart attack was a mystery to everyone. I stayed on plavix for 6 months (along with low-dose aspirin which I continue to take) and couldn't stand the side effect of severe bruising. My recovery was slow in that I continued to experience lots of chest pain with stress, and was eventually diagnosed with GERD, which I believe was caused either by the stents or the plavix.
Avatar f tn I forgot to list Effient and aspirin on my medication. Effient replaces plavix. Thanks for the encouragement and information.
Avatar n tn was recently diagnosed w/ small liver hemangioma and am wondering if anyone knows if it is ok to be on aspirin and effient (like plavix) due to coronary stent or does this pose a risk of hemangioma bleeding?
Avatar n tn Severe joint and back pain usually is not a side effect of Plavix. Coumadin is more powerful than Plavix. The Plavix is important to take especially if you have coated stents. You may want to be checked for arthritis that may be flaring up. Coumadin is not to be used in persons with high cholesterol.
Avatar m tn Effient is a very potent anticoagulantia (often called bloodthinner). When a stent is placed, you need anticoagulantia to avoid thrombosis in the stent. Dependant on the type of stent you need to be on this medication for a couple of months. For a DES stent they normally keep you on it for a whole year, as for bare metal stents(BMS) the period is much shorter. It is very risky to stop Effient before the planned end date. An in-stent-thrombosis is often deadly.
Avatar n tn In march my husband had a stent put in below his heart, everything fine dr put him on effient. June he had a stroke, they gave him clot busting meds, he had a stent put in his cariod artery, all ultra sounds of heart and neck are good, went to nuero and cardiologist in aug. My concern every am when he first gets up he takes his bp before he takes his am meds and its always high, then after meds it drops down. What causes this? The am 170/110 then 1 hour later 120/76.
Avatar n tn The stent can cause lots of tiny fractures in the plaque, causing a clotting progression. However, aspirin/plavix should help prevent this in most cases. When stented, an artery will attempt to repair the lining by growing new tissue. Scarred tissue tends to grow faster than normal tissue and can cause another blockage. Drug eluting stents have a chemical coating which seems to stop scarred tissue forming in most cases, ensuring only normal cells grow to form a nice smooth lining.
Avatar m tn I am a 45 yr old male, 5ft 6 inches tall, 148 pounds, smoker for 25 years now quit after MI on 8/5/2010 most likely due to going off plavix .Family history of cardiac disease, father died at age 36 from stroke related to high blood pressure. My history before MI I received 6 stents due to blockage of 80% in 2 arteries, LAD i believe, in 2006.These were what is called kissing stents since they were placed back to back on both sides of the "widow maker".
Avatar n tn is on effient....if anyone is on plavix..please have the blood test to see if it is working...it was NOT working on my husband...thus the TIA'S....effient is workng well.....appreciate any comments....
Avatar m tn Had allergic reaction to effient and replaced with 75 mg plavix. Did cardiac rehab for 6 weeks achieving met level of 7.5 for 60 minutes. went to cardiologist in November and had nuclear stress test done, thats where he found damage and ejection fraction of 36. said go home take meds dont exercise. Found it strange since I felt better than I had in 10 years. Went to mayo clinic for second opinion did cardiac MRI. said ejection fraction was 25 and half my heart was scar tissue.
Avatar m tn I have been taking Plavix 75 MG daily. A recent plavix test showed it was not helping. Now my PA has me on 150 MG Plavix. I really bleed when scratched now. Should I take the Plavix test again to see if the increased dossage is working? I am also taking 325 mg asprin.
Avatar m tn Did your doctor determine that you risk was so high that he wanted you on Plavix long term, these are the only circumstances that using Plavix long term would be.
255163 tn?1376869746 My heart Dr will not let me go off the plavix and my surgeon will not do the surgery while on plavix. What happens in a situation like this?. I am between a rock and a hard place. If neither Dr gives in what do I do? If I have an attack and end up in the ER wouldn't they have to do emergency sugery?. Does this mean that anyone on plavix can never have surgery unless it's an ermergency. What is your opinion on going off plavix temporarily for surgery. I would welcome anyones advice.
Avatar f tn I had an MI in '05, and had a RCA stent placed. I was on plavix apox. 4 yrs because of family hx and my paranoia of another MI. I recently have been experiencing tingling and numbness in my hands upon awaking and have noticed small spider veins appearing on my thighs. I am a nurse on a MedSurg unit. I am concerned that my stent is becoming occulded. My doctor took me off plavix Jan'10 and kept me on 325 Aspirin.
