Plavix and stomach pain

Common Questions and Answers about Plavix and stomach pain

plavix

I went off Plavix for a few days to have one of these tests and found my stomach pain disappeared. I will be on the Plavix for 5 years in December. Can Plavix cause this type of problem and is there another drug that can replace it if I need to keep taking it.
Michel, this is a question that should be directed toward your doctor. This is nothing that a layperson can answer.
Taking Diltiazem, Lisinopril, Aspirin and Ranitidine as well. Have been having constant stomach and chest pains and the doctors are not able to find the cause- at least they don’t think it is a cardiac one./the chest pains/ My gastroenterologist suggested I stop taking Ranitidine and switch to Pantroprazole. I have read a lot about the interaction between Plavix and PPI’s but he thinks only Omeprazole have more effect on Plavix, not Pantoprazole.
old mom had been on plavix for about 2 months when she began having severe diahreea, nausea and loss of appetite. Is it possible for this to be a side effect of plavix even though she has been on the med for 2 months with no problem? She often has difficulty tolerating medications. She was diagnosed with a bacterial infection but after 2 rounds of antibiotic the symptoms return after abouit 2-3 days of feeling better. .
The surgical team at the hospital has taken him off Plavix and is infusing him with blood and fluids. This is not life threatening, but I do think it points to some of the hazards of using a powerful drug like this for a very extended time. I'm sure Big Pharma has all sorts of B.S. they throw at the Cardiologists, saying this is a great treatment plan. All I've got to say is thank god he was not in a car wreck. I would imagine the bleeding would have been difficult to stop.
We do not want her to lose the ability to walk and want to remove her pain and get her off the powerful pain drugs. We plan to have her do the less-invasive hip surgery so the recovery time and the opening for the replacement is small.
I have taken Plavix since an mi and stroke in June of 2003. I have been told that I will be on it for life. Have any of you continued plavix through minor surgery like gallbladder surgery (the keyhole type)? The last time I stopped Plavix after an 8 month old DES, I had a blockage or re-stenosis to form in my LAD 3 months later. I stopped Plavix for sinus surgery where 2 tumors, that apparently my ENT thought could be malignant, were removed.
thought it to be his gallbladder, but in the process of finding that they also found a blocked artery in his heart which a stent was placed. He was put on plavix and asprin. The heart dr. told him he needed to be on the meds for at least 9 months before he could come off of them to have the gallbladder surgery. His Gallbladder was taken out back in Oct. of this year and his initial symptoms have progressivly gotten worse.
My dad was a pharmacist in the Air Force when I was little, so it was a law in my house that we never took any medicine without a full glass of milk. I think that law has saved my stomach in many instances. I'm on Plavix and 80 mg of aspiring therapy because of a few TIAs before they discovered my hep c, so my coagulation issues are the opposite from what you are talking about. I'm kind of hoping that tx might change that, and I'll be able to stop the Plavix anyhow.
I TAKE ANTI-ANXIETY MEDICATION AS WELL.I AM ON PLAVIX AND ASPIRIN 1X DA. DR. TOOK ME OFF LIPATOR BECAUSE OF MYSCLE PAIN. I HAVE BEEN DIABETIC FOR OVER 30 YRS. I AM GOING IN TO HAVE ANOTHER LOOK AT MY EART IN A COUPLE OF WKS. TO SEE IF THERE IS SCAR TISSUE FROM THE FIRST STENT OR IF THERE ARE OTHER BLOCKAGES. I AM VERY UNCOMFORTABLE. AND SCARED.
The pain begins severe stomach cramps which come and then go come again and then go ever incraesing in pain until i am literally rolling around on the floor. The pain then reaches boiling point when i have to make a run for the bathroom (not ideal considering i am a teacher and this means having to grab someone to cover me IMMEDIATELY) once in the bathroom i have the most outrageous sweats i normally have to strip off as i get soaking wet again not great when in your place of work.
At that time, I was only on the machine for about 5 minutes and the pain also had included pain in my upper left arm. I passed it off as being stress but the next time, the same symptons happened. I have been alot of similar pains since, pretty much daily that can be brought on by walking or when I get up in the am. One day, they were unrelenting so I went to the emergency department. They did an ECG and chest x-ray and blood test, put on a nitro patch, gave me aspirin.
(For me angina is like there is someone inside my chest pushing with there thumb down on my heart some times on the top and sometimes on the sides a constant pressure some time in waves of pain. It this pain advances or persist to around your back and left arm You are having a warning sigh. seek help call 911, chew up a baby Aspen or take a nitro pill or both. do not play around call for help. If you go into cardiac arrest you can not help yourself.
After a few days he lost 18 pounds, he did not eat for 8 days. He vomited after everything except 7-up. They did several test on his stomach, also a scope and found nothing. They ruled out food poisoning or a virus. All of a sudden after the 8th day he immediately felt like eating again. Everything was fine until 4 days ago. After an absence of almost a month, right after eat ing some chicken he went from laughing to vomiting again. He is now in the hospital again and they are baffled.
saw a doctor last friday and was checked for vaginal ultrasound monday. no preg's and cyst on the left side (i am assuming my left and not their left). i have pain in lower right abdominal area and doc ruled out appendix issue with exam. i just checked my temp and it was 99.3 . have a earliest gastro appointment on friday. was unsure if this relates to gall stones, appendix, inflammation of stomach.
I would rather have some stomach discomfort than chest pain so when the time comes I'll probably do it and just cowgirl up for the Plavix and stomach pain for a year -- though if it actually made the stomach bleed I'd have to stop it. So for now I have to take it easy and keep taking the long-acting isosorbide. I live in Western Colorado, and a friend of mine offered to drive me to Santa Fe for my birthday in three weeks. I'm guessing I shouldn't travel until this is resolved.
My doctor visits all said the same thing. That anxiety, ibs, and stress have led to ulcers and my stomach being torn to shreds with acid. And then they give me antacids and send me on my way. Well, all of this seems logical, but why has my stomach not healed after months and months of diet changing and antacid treating? I have been noticing that anxiety (watching a big football game) along with eating gassy food (like a bratwurst) can bring this on as apposed to just another day.
after the surgery, he felt sharp pain under his right ribcage which feels like bubbles that pushes up from deep within the stomach and into the wall of the stomach, he felt very intense pain. His cardiologist said he thinks and his pcp said they believe it was gas. Now it's been 2 years and the pain has subsided with a faint pain every now and again. I'm not a doctor, but if you ask me I believe the pain is from plavix of which he still takes even after 2 years.
First it is entirely possible to get afib via gas bloat and other stomach and digestive tract disorders. If your stomach and digestive tract is as described then you must have inflamation. All this inflamation and bloat and gas will push up on your diaphram and surrounding areas and cause great discomfort and pain but also can press upon nerves.
I have been having severe artey pain and pressure after having 8 heart catherzations with replacing one stent 8 times i have had major bleed out in my groin with blood in the belly for three months after. my arteries hurt any where you can get a pulse.
Hi, I am a 41 year old female who has been experiencing intermittent central chest, upper back, left arm pain and a jabbing/throbbing pain which seems to be over my carotid artery in my neck. The first time I noticed was when I tried to use my new treadmill. It forced me to stop after only a few minutes and I passed it off as being stress. The next time I tried to use it, the same thing.
About 5 years ago I began having pain and weakness in my thumbs. The pain radiates into my elbow area and even seems to be triggered by certain positions. This morning I awoke with pain and clicking in my right thumb. Additionally, there is swelling in the thumb and a soreness into the heel of my hand (where thumb connects to hand). I am taking meds for migraine/stroke (Plavix, verapamil, lasix, lisinopril, along with thyroid replacement therapy and some allergy prescriptions.
1) She has developed a burning sensation on her lower back and her stomach area for over 3 years and it gets worse. The sensation comes and goes very unpredictable. It usually lasts a few hours and it is very uncomfortable (body temp is ok). I wonder if it is related to the Coumadin (for irregular heart beat) she is taking? If not, do you by any chance know what would possibly cause this. 2) She also has terrible knee pain due to lack of lubricant.
It was then that I started on blood pressure meds and the aspirin and Plavix, etc. It was by choice that I stopped taking the Plavix. I know the doctors would prefer that I continue with this, but I don't care for the side effects. I felt great until last summer when I wasn't able to walk. There was a heat wave in this part of Texas and I couldn't tolerate the intense heat. I tried, butended up a sweating mess.
After lowering the statin to once a day the pain is a little better. I read that plavix can also cause muscle pain, as well as beta blockers. I'm more tired than i was before the event. All tests, including a CT scan are negative. Some old spinal fracture showed up in the fifth vertebra. One dr said the cpr and shock may have aggravated it, as well as having to wear an external defibrillator for 11 days while drs. decided whether i needed an ICD or not. (I don't.
Hello, Plavix is Clopidrogel which can cause side effects like nausea, epistaxis, diarrhea, stomach pain, headaches fatigue and dizziness. Headaches after a mini stroke could occur due to several reasons. When there is a stretching of healthy arteries to supply the ischemic part, stretching of brain covering or a small tear in an artery. An imaging of the brain and blood vessels may help.
For the first 30 days after the stents I was on Plavix 150mg, 325mg aspirin, 20 Lipitor - I am now down to 75mg of Plavix and 40mg Lipitor. I researched and found that Plavix and Lipitor can cause chest and muscle pain. I have both chest and back pain. I hope this is some help Jack you are not alone and I guess we just have to live with it..... Take care.
Before I had my heart attack, I have never experienced anything like that- everything started after the stents were placed. Two days ago I went to the emergency room again- had shortness of breath and pain in my chest and both arms. The troponin levels were normal- the only thing was that my heart rate was elevated but I was discharched. Today is Sunday and the pain still continues.
I THINK one of those affects stomach acid.........do you know if that is true? Tums and Rolaids and OTC's do nothing to help. Is there anything you've found in the "natural" category to help? My second question concerns how I feel the day after I've had a bad episode. While it is nothing like the actual "attack," I still have that lousy feeling in my chest and throat and just don't feel real great. I feel hungry, but find I'm a bit afraid to eat.
