Plavix and nexium fda

Common Questions and Answers about Plavix and nexium fda

plavix

Avatar m tn Ask your Cardio or GI doc. They should be able to give you the infor you need. I am taking plavix and was on nexium. Had to go off it because of the FDA findings. Am now on pepcid You can also look on the FDA website for more info on that. Good luck.
1274110 tn?1270788561 I am on plavix also and was taking nexium for gerd. My cardiologist told me to go off the nexium because the FDA has found that the nexium or any of the PPI's inhibits the plavix from working properly. I am now on pepcid instead of nexium. I am curious to find out if your cardio's had mentioned this to you. Protonix is in the same group of PPI's as nexium. Google plavix and ppi's or go on the FDA website. You will read a lot about the two meds. Just for your info.
Avatar m tn This led the FDA to ask Plavix maker Sanofi-Aventis to specifically study interactions between Plavix and Prilosec and between Plavix and Nexium, FDA safety evaluator Mary Ross Southworth, PharmD, said at a news conference. "We think there is a significant interaction," Southworth said. "In general, patients should avoid the combination of these two medications." But the FDA recommendation goes far beyond the two drugs studied.
Avatar m tn My cardio took me off the nexium and put me on pepcid. Google plavix and nexium to get more info on this subject or go to the FDA website.
Avatar m tn The mixture of Metroprolol, Ezitrol, Lipitor, Ramipril, Isordil, Plavix, Nexium and Aspro and now Coralan leaves me feeling quite week and lathargic and always very tired. My BP is steady at around 100/60, my cholesterol is below 4. I did used to walk about 2km a day before I started Coralan even though I got angina, but now I feel I just dont have the energy to do the walk to see if I still get angina. Not sure what yer answer might be but thought Id write this down anyway.
Avatar n tn I had angioplasty in 2001 and had a stent implant. My cardiologist prescribed Plavix and 81 mg aspirin daily among the other medications (beta blocker, ACE inhibitor, statin). I have recently moved to a new city and have not found a new cardiologist yet but family physician suggested that Plavix could be discontinued as the guidelines have changed and no long recommended after 12 months post stent implant. Suggestions please?
Avatar f tn It might be necessary to increase the Nexium dose, but from my experience, this is a very minor issue. The need to take Plavix trumps the Nexium issue. Plavix and aspirin are essential to keep your stents from plugging up again. It sounds like your hospital doesn't have a good program in place for education after an MI and cath. I work a day a week at our hospital as a Cardiac Navigator, as I've had MI's, eight stents, a pacer and bypass surgery and still standing.
1210142 tn?1266077031 He has recently had to put me back on Nexium for severe acid reflux, but told me to take Plavix in the morn. and Nexium at night. Have to have some blood work done in 1 month.
Avatar n tn What I would recommend you do is call whoever did your last angioplasty in 2008 because they know your coronary arteries the best and ask if you can go off Plavix. I think you would probably be ok going off Plavix since it has been 3 years from your last intervention and that was only ballooning but again there is a small risk of restenosis of your stents.
Avatar f tn ve never tried Domperidone, but the only meds that helped me were Nexium or Kapidex taken twice daily. I tried prevacid and it was very brief because it just didn't work for me :( Also, I use to take one Kapidex/Nexium PLUS some Amitriplyn, but I knocked the amitriplyn out of my regimen. Either way, it offered more good days then bad.
Avatar n tn I HAD CAROTID ARTERY SURGERY OVER A YEAR AGO AND HAD A MILD STROKE I AM ON PLAVIX AND WOULD LIKE TO STOP TAKING IT. SURGEON SAID IN MAY I CAN BUT I WANT TO NOW AS IT IS CAUSING ALL SIDE AFFECTS AND I FEEL TERRIBLE FROM THE MEDICINE.
4205995 tn?1351169508 Neutralizing stomach acid means you ability to absorb nutrients is impaired. Warning in particular for nexium is magnesium deficiency on the FDA website - seen within 3 months but on average about a year after starting. Magnesium deficiency causes so many symptoms including acid reflux ironically. Magnesium is essential for proper heart rhythm. Calcium contracts the muscles, magnesium relaxes the muscle. The most important muscle in the body is the heart.
Avatar m tn I was told to take Nexium and contact a urologist. Four days later I went to my local doc because the pain continued and was still severe(burning, tightness). My doc did bloodwork and came running in the room with nitro and a handful of aspirin for me to chew, and immediately sent me to the nearest Cardiac Care Unit via ambulance. After tests, the cardiologist concluded a 98 percent blockage in my right artery and almost 65 percent blockage in the left.
Avatar f tn Do not take Cipro with calcium, milk, yogurt, probiotics or with Nexium (which contains magnesium). Cipro is a quinalone, and is effective against mycobacteria, which don't have cell walls, but is not effective against other many strains of bacteria. The taking of an anti-viral is a mixed blessing. Go to the FDA site for information on Valtrex. A culture should have been taken, but this isn't done very often these days.
Avatar n tn I am on my second DES in my LAD-first a cypher stent that had a proximal occlusion at the leading edge of the stent after two years,8 months on Plavix and con't on asa-325.
Avatar f tn I have muscle spazms along with the in my arms and legs. Chest pain occasionally. Ive had acid reflux and IBS since i was 16. Taking nexium, and whatever else they can prescribe to help, but mine is cronic so theres not much they can do. I have only had one seizure so far.. But im wondering what i can tell myself with all these symtoms im having. Iv heard people talk about Raynauds syndrom? But i dont seam to have cold feet or hands alot of the time, occasionally. And no discoloration.
690060 tn?1247841741 Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has new data showing that omeprazole (Prilosec/Prilosec OTC)—a medicine used to reduce stomach acid—reduces the anti-blood clotting effect of clopidogrel (Plavix) by almost half when these two medicines are taken by the same patient." "...Patients using clopidogrel should consult with their healthcare provider if they are currently taking or considering taking omeprazole, including Prilosec OTC" but then, there's also this: http://www.
214864 tn?1229715239 s Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA) reports a two-fold increase in death and heart attack in the 90 days after heart patients completed their prescribed course of medical therapy with clopidogrel (Plavix). The increased risk occurred whether or not patients had received stents and was similar for all durations of clopidogrel therapy studied: from less than six months to more than a year.
1210142 tn?1266077031 ) And if you look at some of the posts above/from jrbon- he stopped Plavix after 18 months and have not had any problems. My sister is an MD in Bulgaria and the practice there is almost the same as here- stopping Plavix after 12 months. So, no matter how much and how long we discuss this- the statistics should speak for itself.
315318 tn?1353251800 The risk of restenosis due to a blood clot is minimum after about about a year, and the risk/benefit ratio favors discontinuing plavix and its probability to cause excessive bleeding. Did you have a test that indicates your are hypercoagulable (excessive blood clotting characteristics)? A PT-INR test that times the clotting time?
Avatar m tn s has healed completely, but I am concerned that continued use of Nexium may result in loss of bone and eventual hip fracture. I take calcum, vitamin D, (and other supplements) and exercise regularly, but I can feel my bones "thinning down" (fingers and toes). Is there anything else I should be doing to keep my bone strength up?
Avatar n tn I was told there is no real evidence it reacts with clopidogrel (plavix) and if it does, the effect is tiny. My INR didn't change on this medication for 2 years. It would seem Aspirin is the culprit for causing my stomach issues, so I've been taken off aspirin and put back onto plavix for life.
Avatar f tn I had problems on Nexium (prescribed for GERD- another issue) and reported it to the FDA. Others must have also as now there are new warnings for Nexium. You should notify the FDA, one never knows and possibly others are having problems too. I have osteoporosis and still refuse to take that class of drugs.
255163 tn?1376869746 My heart Dr will not let me go off the plavix and my surgeon will not do the surgery while on plavix. What happens in a situation like this?. I am between a rock and a hard place. If neither Dr gives in what do I do? If I have an attack and end up in the ER wouldn't they have to do emergency sugery?. Does this mean that anyone on plavix can never have surgery unless it's an ermergency. What is your opinion on going off plavix temporarily for surgery. I would welcome anyones advice.
Avatar n tn I have read so often that you should not take Plavix and aspirin, but it seems to also be common to prescribe both plavix and aspirin in certain situations. I am worried and confused. Thanks.
