Plavix and liver disease

Common Questions and Answers about Plavix and liver disease

plavix

Avatar f tn There are no documented evidence that plavix causes stomach bloating. Plavix is a medication that helps prevent clot formation, and there is increased risk for excessive bleeding.
Avatar n tn If you are referring to Plavix (clopidogrel) and Aspirin, I would take them for life. The general rule used to be aspirin for life, plavix for a year. However, more and more cases of forming clots in stents were appearing when plavix was stopped, so now the general trend is changing towards life.
Avatar n tn Even with a very good appetite and high calorie intake, some people with heart failure lose muscle mass. That can be explained as heart failure may cause blood to back up into the liver and intestines, and they may swell. Swelling of the intestines may not allow for adequate absorption of nutrients from the food you eat. Its difficult to comment on your father's condition as there are so many abnormal affects associated with your father's health...
Avatar m tn The recommended treatment for DES implants is dual therapy of aspirin and plavix up to a year. Combining plavix and aspirin increases the risk of bleeding vs. aspirin alone in patients treated for more than a brief period of time. That is the regimen followed for my DES implant. f you are in this category a prior MI and unstable angina:" In the CAPRIE trial, clopidogrel (plavix) was equivalent to aspirin for patients with a recent (but not acute) MI.
329994 tn?1301663248 You must get a bleeding time, clotting time done and must reduce the dose or go off Plavix and take an alternative, after consulting a cardiologist. If Plavix is not the only cause then bruises could be due to internal bleeding from torn capillaries. The other possible reasons are low platelet count, clotting disorders, fragile spider veins, deep vein thrombus, deficiency of Vitamin B12, folic acid, or Vit K, a liver disease or certain cancers (less likely in your case).
Avatar n tn I take 75mg of Plaxi once a day and one 81mg asprin once a day. I have been on Plaxix for 9 years. Can I safely stop taking Plavix and continue with th 81mg of asprin. I did not have a heart attack, I had an agina attack. I had open heart surgery, one bypass in the LAD in 2000. I am bruising very easy lately and wonder if I'm doing more harm than good with the current medications.
Avatar f tn i was taking vytorin and plavix when i was told i have cll .
Avatar f tn I don't know about "normal," but if the regimen of warfarin and Plavix is working for you, then great. Your goal is to find something that works. Have you been tested for clotting disorders? Your story makes me wonder about that, especially if the stroke happened to be due to a clot.
448351 tn?1207789907 The main thing is..you could have advanced liver disease and not know it. I felt FINE and had no symptoms........I had the biopsy and found I was almost at cirrhosis. I was pretty shocked to say the least. You need to know where you stand and IF you have time to wait. If you cannot - that is the reason you need to do treatment. This is the SILENT KILLER and not for nothing...it does get us easy enough - by the time we have severe symptoms...it's usually too late.
Avatar n tn You need the heart medication and Plavix and it would be risking to stop the Plavix. Lipitor is good for studies have shown that it has helped reduce cholesterol buildup in the arteries. The studies showed that 40mg was just as good as 80mg and that 80mg did not help reduce the cholesterol buildup any more than the 40mg. One question I have, is the nitro patch. Are you having chest pains? Nitro is not good for your liver.
Avatar f tn Most hepatologists recommend Tylenol for pain as long as we follow the prescribed dosage either on the bottle or what our liver docs prescribe. Those of us with advanced liver disease are allowed at least 2000 mg within a 24 hr period.
Avatar n tn I've followed this research, and from what I've learned the drug interaction of Plavix and PPI's (proton pump inhibitors) is not not that strong. I doubted the report from the start as I took Plavix and PPI's and my blood was as thin as tea, I bruised very, very easily, and the blood tests to determine my clotting factor wasn't changed by taking the two drugs.
Avatar f tn Obviously if we make no changes, the disease will grow and start to affect more vessels. Diet is not enough with most people and this is because the food we eat only accounts for a small proportion of the fats in our blood (cholesterol). The Liver is the culprit. It performs over 200 tasks in the body and one is to make lipids for fat transportation. The best way to reduce this, is to take statins. However, there are other benefits to statins being found all the time.
448351 tn?1207789907 Ditto SusieQ: Your docs DO need to be communicating with each other. My husband was in a similar situation last year, and it took a little coordinating, but it's do-able (stent placement and liver biopsy, that is). My husband had a non-medicinal stent put in last year on Feb 1st and started on oral Plavix.
Avatar f tn t nearly as rough as end stage liver disease, and that is what your husband will have to deal with if he doesn't do something to get rid of this virus now. It is a tough little critter and they have to get rid of every last one so it won't come back... he'll be going into battle inside of his body. He'll need your support both physically and mentally.
Avatar n tn Sounds to me like you may have passed a gallstone. plavix can cause a hemolytic-uremic syndrome and TTP will low platelets, etc. The plavix may have given you a systemic reaction. i think watchful waiting for now is OK with careful monitoring of your liver tests.
976897 tn?1379167602 It has been known for years heartburn drugs could interfere with a liver enzyme needed to process Plavix, neutralizing its effects. Who knows with that interaction what that effect on the body's chemistry! Plavix's interaction with many other drugs cautionary. Probably better to fogo Plavix than stopping acid reflux med before and after PCI.
Avatar f tn The clinically important adverse reactions observed in trials comparing Plavix plus aspirin to placebo plus aspirin and trials comparing Plavix alone to aspirin alone are discussed below. Bleeding CURE In CURE, Plavix use with aspirin was associated with an increase in major bleeding (primarily gastrointestinal and at puncture sites) compared to placebo with aspirin. The incidence of intracranial hemorrhage (0.1%) and fatal bleeding (0.2%) were the same in both groups.
Avatar m tn In getting ready for sius surgery in 2008 I was taken off my aspirin for 8 days and the day before the surgery had the second stroke. My cardiologist put me on Plavix plus the two aspirin and had me take 4 plavix the first day I got them. Now I take one Plavix a day plus the two aspirin. After a bout with Pneumonia and Bronchitis and being in the hospital twice I was sent to a Pulmonary Dr.
Avatar n tn I have three drug eluting stents in the LAD, two non-drug eluting stents and three drug eluting stents in my RCA. I stayed on Plavix for 1.5 years after the last stent, and been off Plavix for over a year with no restinosis. I do exercise daily, take Vytorin, 81mg aspirin, and follow a healthy heart diet very carefully. So far, no problems with restenosis, but believe me, I think about it every day.
255163 tn?1376869746 My heart Dr will not let me go off the plavix and my surgeon will not do the surgery while on plavix. What happens in a situation like this?. I am between a rock and a hard place. If neither Dr gives in what do I do? If I have an attack and end up in the ER wouldn't they have to do emergency sugery?. Does this mean that anyone on plavix can never have surgery unless it's an ermergency. What is your opinion on going off plavix temporarily for surgery. I would welcome anyones advice.
