plavix

Avatar n tn t dare stop the Plavix and aspirin. And that I cannot have any kind of invasive surgery during the 1st 6 months. I just learned this a month after the stent was put in. My main question is this. What all is invasive surgery? I need to have some more small skin cancers removed and also may need to have a cataract removed. Is this safe or not? Apparently someone slipped up by not explaing all this before I left the heart hospital. At least I found out a month later.
Avatar f tn Three weeks after stopping Plavix for the surgery I was back in the cath lab and had a stint inserted. I do not come off Plavix for any reason now. I have 6 stints in my heart and one in my neck. Last week they would not remove my cataract because it was only 3 months since I had 2 stints inserted in my heart. Could not do it until six months had passed. I had open heart in 2004.
255163 tn?1376869746 My heart Dr will not let me go off the plavix and my surgeon will not do the surgery while on plavix. What happens in a situation like this?. I am between a rock and a hard place. If neither Dr gives in what do I do? If I have an attack and end up in the ER wouldn't they have to do emergency sugery?. Does this mean that anyone on plavix can never have surgery unless it's an ermergency. What is your opinion on going off plavix temporarily for surgery. I would welcome anyones advice.

Avatar f tn Dear Dr. Kutryb, Thank you for answering my question on whether I could have Lasik surgery with Lupus or not. You advised not to and said I would probably be getting cataracts in the near future. Actually, I do have a cataract in one eye. The doctor told me it wasn't bad enough for surgery at the time. I have an astigmatism in both eyes and I have to get my eyes checked every 6mo. for glaucoma because of taking Plaquenal. I do get floaters every now and again.
315318 tn?1353251800 We do not stop blood thinners for cataract surgery since we do it with topical and intracameral anesthesia and make the incision through the clear cornea which does not have blood vessels. Dr. O.
Avatar n tn After that length of time it is generally believed to discontinue plavix but remain on aspirin. Although plavix and aspirin are anti-platelet agents, plavix has a different mechanism of action that seems to be specialized for drug eluding stent to prevent restenosis. Laviquin is an antibiotic medication! and there is a class-action suit against Laviqiin providers that is currently unresolved.
Avatar f tn my mom had triple by pass surgery and only 2 of the bypass remained open soon afterwards They then put in 9 stents and 3 closed given repro and her platetet count has dropped .
Avatar n tn My Orthopedic surgeon was very specific in me stopping both the aspirin and Plavix totally to prevent any kind of excessive bleeding...I trust him and his work as he has a great reputation, but I am troubled that this will be an ongoing problem with blockages throughout my lifetime...Being my other hip will need to be replaced in the future, I can see this same scenario being continued...What do you think..? Thanks...
Avatar n tn My neurosurgeon says I need to go off Plavix for 6 weeks prior to surgery. I am very concerned about going off Plavix since past thrombosis and nearly dying. Can someone tell me the risk percentages for thrombosis if you had it prior. My wife would like for me to hold off of surgery until absolutely necessary or they come up with more info on Plavix. Thank you for your help.
Avatar m tn The recommended treatment for DES implants is dual therapy of aspirin and plavix up to a year. Combining plavix and aspirin increases the risk of bleeding vs. aspirin alone in patients treated for more than a brief period of time. That is the regimen followed for my DES implant. f you are in this category a prior MI and unstable angina:" In the CAPRIE trial, clopidogrel (plavix) was equivalent to aspirin for patients with a recent (but not acute) MI.

Avatar n tn If your mother had a drug eluting stent it is likely safe to stop the plavix and have the surgery after 18 months of the drug. She should however stay on the aspirin during the time of the surgery and then likely restart the plavix after the surgery. There is no test that I know of that will predict her risk but it should be quite low. If she had a bare metal stent then she should be fine to stop the plavix now.
Avatar m tn Had multiple stents (4) placed four (4) years ago, two in LAD with no side effects and good nuclear and stress test results over this period. Am currently taking Plavix/Aspirin/Coreg/Altace. Need arthroscopic repair on knee but concerned over cessating of Plavix. One cardiologist recommended ending Plavix entirely, second (same practice) would rather wait for a large study about to be completed. Suggestions?
Avatar f tn We were told that he needs bypass surgery and it has been scheduled for March 11. The doctor said he needs to stop plavix 7 days before. I'm worried because he just will have had the stent put in at just over 3 weeks.
Avatar m tn I have both DES and drug eluting stents and have had heart attacks, and took Plavix for several years. About a year ago I went off Plavix and have not experienced a heart attack or restinosis. I remain on 81mg aspirin. While still taking Plavix, I had the misfortune of developing a bowel obstruction which required emergency surgery. The fact that I was was taking Plavix was a major concern, and the surgery took place expecting bleeding problems.
Avatar n tn Both my mom and dad were on plavix. When my mom needed surgery, she was taken of the plavix for awhile. However, when my dad needed surgery, he was kept on it. Your doctors need to make that decision. Good Luck! Wishing you well, and wishing you enough...

Avatar m tn What is the possibility of having surgery? If I have surgery is the Plavix stopped for a number of days and then resumed?
Avatar f tn I have lupus and have a heart condition where I take plavix and prednisone along with other meds. Am I a candidate for this procedure? I would love to throw away the glasses! I need them for distance and for reading. If so do you know of any good docs in the ATL area?
Avatar m tn We have contacted both cataract surgeon and retina specialist and they want him to do the cataract surgery first. Now should we to the cataract surgeon for the cataract surgery or to the retina specialist who said he will also be able to do the surgery as well. Some said that it is important to go with the retina specialist as the retina doctor can handle if something goes wrong with the retina during the time of cataract surgery.
Avatar m tn I had indeed bleeding issues spent a long, long time in the hospital. Recently I had to have a foot surgery and was taken off Plavix a week before the surgery, but was advised to stay on 81mg aspirin as I have significant heart trouble. With just the aspirin, I had to wear an ankle cuff during the foot surgery to suppress the bleeding.
Avatar f tn I had a double bowel obstruction requiring emergency surgery immediately several years ago when taking plavix, and bleeding was a concern and a problem during the surgery. That being said, I'm still standing.
214864 tn?1229715239 I plan to take it through the surgery, unless any of you have had significant problems during minor surgery, while on Plavix. My blood is very thick, due to high cholesterol and lack of statin toleration. I am having problems finding (chemically) just what the big deal is. All of my six DES stents are older than one year. I would appreciate so much any information that anyone has about why Plavix should be stopped before minor surgery.
Avatar m tn The only reason not to have both problems dealt with now is if your retina doctor thought you would get good vision recovery from the pucker surgery and not need cataract surgery for several more years. However it works out, your two surgeons MUST talk to each other in advance of any procedure so that everyone is on the same page.
Avatar n tn t something else is the problem.
Avatar m tn Do you mean many patients like me have eye pain or asthenopia go for a cataract surgery and have improvement. Finally, anyway to test do I have Ocular migraine. My family doctor prescribed me a few Zomig and didn't work out.
