Common Questions and Answers about Plavix and asa

plavix

Avatar f tn My husband was diagnosed with PAD in Feb 2009, had PTA with stenosis in R Femoral artery, Plavix & ASA 81mg daily for 2 weeks post-op. 1 year later in Feb 2010 had recurrent claudication and another PTA in which stent was still viable. Increased Plavix & ASA 81mg to daily, indefinitely... Oct 2010 developed vertigo and high bp averaging 150/115...diagnosed with labyrinthitis, given steroid injection, Meclizine 25mg for acute vertigo, and Diazepam 2mg for sleep depriving vertigo.
Avatar n tn I would stay on the plavix and the ASA as long as possible. not only do they prevent stent thrombosis, they actually increase your longevity. The manufacturer's recs are that 6 to 12 months of ASA and plavix, followed by indefinite therapy with ASA is enough, but most cardiologist disagree with that.
Avatar n tn Sent home with Plavix, Altace (Ramiprimil) and Lipitor (Ran-Atorvastatin). plus ASA. Have only taken Plavix and ASA so far and have a sort of congested feeling in esophagus and stomach-Like mild indigestion, feeling full and feeling like stuffing self when eat. Still in shock and ajusting. I have Fibro so other limitations and my wife has alzheimers so that is a big stress. any feedback helpful.
Avatar m tn The usual protocol for the drug eluding stents is dual therapy of aspirin and plavix for a year. The reason for plavix is that DES has a tendency to clot when compared to bare metal stents, and less a problem for restenosis (overgrowth of tissue within the lumen). After a year medical consensus is to discontinue plavix as there is less risk for clots, but continue with aspirin for a lifetime. There may be some individuals that have a higher risk for clots so plavix may continued indefinitely.
Avatar n tn I am on my second DES in my LAD-first a cypher stent that had a proximal occlusion at the leading edge of the stent after two years,8 months on Plavix and con't on asa-325.
Avatar f tn Hi I am 38 year old female that on March 14th I woke up that morning with a headache, took 2 ibuprofen and didn't really think anything of it. While cooking dinner I began to see things thru both eyes that I have never seen before this lasted a few minutes. They were like half circles in zig zag shape to the left side of both eyes that also were electrifying looking as if to say like electricity. My left arm and hand began to feel funny almost jelly like and weak.
Avatar f tn All the information I’ve googled on PFO and ASA together (at least, what I can understand) is very distressing. I’m worried that in trying to resolve one problem we’ve created an even bigger one. The doctor who performed the TEEs told us to consult with the doctor who inserted the seal. We have scheduled an appointment but it’s several weeks off. I’d like information so we can ask intelligent questions.
Avatar f tn Cholesterol and blood pressure meds are the only ones that can help. Asa and plavix don't really help much in terms of halting progression. I wouldn't be alarmed about this but regular follow up is a must. You can work and perform aerobic exercise without any problems, I would however, stay away from heavy weight lifting.
238097 tn?1225388720 I would say that as long as you are not having any symptoms and you are on asa and plavix you are OK. I am assuming that with the previous MI you did have chest pain. The rate of stent restenosis is less than 5% with this stent and is more likely in the diabetic patients. The risk of stent thrombosis is in the thousandths of a percent.
Avatar n tn Had PFO closure 5 weeks ago, having post bubble study next week. Feeling good, but have occasional chest discomfort (like something caught). When I asked physician about it, he was evasive in his answer (the cardiac surgeon performed procedure in another city and I am following up all post-op care with local cardiologist. None of the literature I read mentions chest discomfort. Had a "floppy" septum, with large PFO, and an ASA. Diagnosed after a speenic infarct.
Avatar n tn She has coronary artery disease and must change her lifestyle and start taking meds including statins and beta blockers and ASA and plavix. There was probably some minor plaque there related to the stress and the HTN and it became unstable leading to a rupture which then led to a dissection. Her prognosis depends on her residual heart function as measured by echocardiography. If close to 50%, her prognosis is relatively good.
Avatar f tn Well after that procedure and lots of medicines later I had to go back to the hospital because the Plavix was making me feel not well at all and lots of test were performed as well. Now that I am on Ticlid I feel a little better have more energy but I am still having some chest pain here and there. But not all the time. I am only 44 years old and I am shocked on how this has come out. I am very scared and wondering if there is something else going on with my heart. Or am I just anxious.
Avatar f tn Well yesterday I had a cath done and they found 80% stenosis in the one bypass and 30% in the other and the third one is clear so the put drug induced stent in the one and I am on Plavix and several other meds. My B//P is still high but I was released today and sent home. I was told I would be on Plavix for a year. BTW on my first three stents they were drug stents to prevent restenosis but did not work for me. I was taken off Plavix after my bypass as they felt I would do o.k. without it.
255163 tn?1376869746 My heart Dr will not let me go off the plavix and my surgeon will not do the surgery while on plavix. What happens in a situation like this?. I am between a rock and a hard place. If neither Dr gives in what do I do? If I have an attack and end up in the ER wouldn't they have to do emergency sugery?. Does this mean that anyone on plavix can never have surgery unless it's an ermergency. What is your opinion on going off plavix temporarily for surgery. I would welcome anyones advice.
Avatar n tn I have read so often that you should not take Plavix and aspirin, but it seems to also be common to prescribe both plavix and aspirin in certain situations. I am worried and confused. Thanks.
Avatar n tn I had angioplasty in 2001 and had a stent implant. My cardiologist prescribed Plavix and 81 mg aspirin daily among the other medications (beta blocker, ACE inhibitor, statin). I have recently moved to a new city and have not found a new cardiologist yet but family physician suggested that Plavix could be discontinued as the guidelines have changed and no long recommended after 12 months post stent implant. Suggestions please?
Avatar n tn The American Dental Association has agreed with the American Heart Association and the AMA, that there are no dental procedures that require the patient to stop Plavix. I read this yesterday, and the article mentioned that much to their dismay, cardiologist were still hearing from their patients that some nutty dentists were still asking them to stop Plavix for a procedure.
Avatar n tn I have been on Coumadin for 18 years due to Lupus Anticoagulant (Antiphospholipid Syndrome) and several DVTs. In 2005 had MI with occlusion of the LAD artery and had drug stent inserted and I am still on plavix. My doc has debated when to take me off the Plavix safely....what are the recent studies about this dilemma? thanks so much!
Avatar f tn She was given platelet went up then down again Can plavix make it worse and will her platelet revert back to normal
1210142 tn?1266077031 I have read a lot about the interaction between Plavix and PPI’s but he thinks only Omeprazole have more effect on Plavix, not Pantoprazole. Please, let me know what your opinion is and have you heard about any interaction between those two? I don’t need an additional heart attack.
Avatar n tn After that length of time it is generally believed to discontinue plavix but remain on aspirin. Although plavix and aspirin are anti-platelet agents, plavix has a different mechanism of action that seems to be specialized for drug eluding stent to prevent restenosis. Laviquin is an antibiotic medication! and there is a class-action suit against Laviqiin providers that is currently unresolved.
Avatar m tn Please note that the article mention plavix as used as "prevention of stroke" here we are speaking of Plavix to avoid restenosis and clots in the case that you have medical stents implanted. The situation is quite different.
Avatar n tn g., the intestines and stomach) and plavix helps prevent clotting and execessive bleeding can be a serious event with the interaction of alcohol and plavix. Hope this helps. Thanks for your question, and if you have any follow-up questions or comments you are welcome to respond. Take care and enjoy the New Year.
