Protein from food has additional vitamins and minerals and possible fiber, depending on the protein source. Recommend a regular multi-vitamin, without protein.

As for protein foods, keep in mind some people don't do well without meat, and B12 is hard to get without it. And that's important for energy. Oils containing monounsaturated fat include olive oil and canola oil. Decrease junk food, cookies, cakes etc which contain polyunsaturated fatty acids in your diet. I sincerely hope that helps. Usually when protein intake is very low or eating incomplete proteins (plant sources and not combining them together), one of the side effects is hair loss. Hair loss can also be after having a baby with the hormone changes or certain illnesses. I do not recommend diatomaceous earth, however, if you do use it be careful you do not inhale it which can damage your lungs.
Avatar m tn nope wrong, proteins are not absobable in plant form, not to the same degree. you may absorb so little protein from plant sources that both size, heart function and all else is effected. Absoption of plant proteins is far far lower than those from animal sources. That's because only complete amino acid chains can be absorbed through the intestinal wall, and plant proteins are incomplete chains. desertsand well, I'm not as brave as you...I lasted 5 years...

You can get creative with your cooking and find a lot of healthy alternative ways to cook. My transplant doc said beef is also ok, so I look for low fat, grain fed when possible. Eggs are good also. You did not mention if you were taking any supplements. Vegans need vitamin B12 and calcium supplements. Suggest you take a daily multi-vitamin and increase calcium consummation (soy milk, soy cheese, soy yogurt, leafy green vegetables) for stronger bones.

There are no complete proteins in the vegetable world; even soy is light on methionine. Oh, one other thing in animal food, a big thing -- B12, another nutrient not found much in the plant world.
