745313 tn?1323142298 I knew about the thinning hair, which I am experiencing to a much, MUCH worse degree than I expected (but hey, it's summer!! ) But I have never read anything about tx affecting your fingernails. It only makes sense, as they are both made of the same thing - but has anyone else had this problem? Mine are awful! They are like paper, thin, peeling, and constantly ripping, even though they are cut completely short.
Avatar f tn Hello, Pitting of the nails, resembling a number of small dents, could be due to a skin condition known as psoriasis. Distorted nails can also be due to fungal infection, hardening of the arteries and vitamin deficiency. I would suggest you to get it evaluated from a dermatologist. It is very difficult to precisely confirm a diagnosis without examination and investigations and the answer is based on the medical information provided.
1067423 tn?1267740670 Hey there, girl.....I don't know. It sounds terrible. When I was getting chemo, I had an eruption of psoriasis and I lost my toenails and they aren't coming back....chemo ended 5 years ago. I hurt my toes all the time; but I know it would be much worse if it was my finger nails. I wish I could offer some help. Maybe someone will come along and know something helpful. Have you spoken to your doc or your chemo team about this? That's a good place to start.

Avatar n tn I have found out about psoriatic nails, found in people with psoriasis, and ridges and peeling in your finger or toenails has to do with iron. High iron manifests in skin problems, and psoriasis is common in iron disorders. Google it with typing in peeling toenails or fingernails. Here is a link.
Avatar m tn It's not herpes. I'd say yeast infection, but the little circles on the hand don't look like yeast. Maybe psoriasis, which can have different appearances. Do you see any changes to fingernails?
Avatar n tn hello sir/miss! this looks like psoriasis. it is a very common condition that usually begins from ages 15-35. Psoriasis seems to be passed down through families. Doctors think it probably occurs when the body's immune system mistakes healthy cells for dangerous substances. Skin cells grow deep in the skin and normally rise to the surface about once a month.
Avatar m tn A skin biopsy was performed and showed the doctor if he saw signs of psoriasis any where else on my body then this was likely psoriasis well he checked me every where and found nothing. Let me tell you about it first off this is NO WHERE else on my body other then my hands. It does not burn or itch. It does not bleed or puss. My skin just peels. My finger nails are fine not pitted.
Avatar f tn I did some research and diagnosed it as Pitted keratolysis. I went out to walgreens and bought some 10% benzoyl peroxide. After about 3-4 days of use I noticed that the condition was getting worse. The webbing on my toes started to peel as well as a large peel spot on the soul of my left foot. Peeled skin is more red and looks like it has tiny red dots in it. I stopped treatment with benzoyl peroxide. Couple of days later I noticed that the condition seem to have spread to both of my palms.
Avatar n tn Have him see a dermotologist or rheumatologist to be evaluated for psoriasis. People who have nail psoriasis are more likely to have the associated arthritic condition known as psoriatic arthritis. Does he have any joint complaints?
Avatar f tn s lines that appear when growth at the area under your cuticle is interrupted. Third possibility is of psoriasis. The inflammatory skin condition, it shows up as red, scaly patches on the skin and can also affect the skin cells in the nails. I sincerely advise you to consult a dermatologist as treatment modalities for all are different and so a confirmatory diagnosis has to be made first.

Avatar f tn For the last six years, I’ve had this odd disruption of nail keratin production that started on my right pointer finger. It looks like pitted lateral lines across the nail, but not along the length of the nail. The nail bed on the anterior edge has slightly thickened and recedes over time, too. Over time, the putting has come and gone, and the nail seems to be really hard and brittle. The symptoms spread to my left hand, but only the first finger, a year or two later. Same appearance.
1110676 tn?1265812109 i got horizontal ridges on both toenails, as well as on my fingernails but barely noticeable. im not sure how long i have these but i discovered it late last year and it seem to be deteriorating. i cut my nails on a regular basis but it seem to not go away. what does this mean? pls help. tnx.

560684 tn?1306712545 like moderate pitting of the finger nails (this has been going on for the past 3 months), weaking of fingernails along with peeling of nails and itching of the pubic area - past 2 weeks(without any signs of pubic lice - but when i scratch the 'root' of the hairs have these small while things - almost like some sort of internal moist dandruff...the skin is fine though).
Avatar m tn I have this problem, too, and also on my fingernails, and it is a condition called psoriatic nails, and people with psoriasis have this problem. This skin problem is in our family, although I have no major issue with skin manifestation, my brother is covered from head to toe with plaques and suffers. I have mild form. But interestingly, psoriasis is an outward skin manifestation of other systemic disease, including high iron. Take care...
Avatar f tn ve been having a lot of nail changes- in particular, I had two fingernails partially separate from the bed (both have resolved since) and discoloration (dark pink/red) and thickening of one of my toenails. The last time my dermatologist checked it she sent a sample off for fungal testing and it came back negative, but she never told me what else it could possibly be, and she has since retired.

Avatar m tn We did partake in unprotected oral sex, cunnilingus and digital penetration. I do bite my fingernails and cuticles but I have always checked to make sure they were healed (of course that is subjective) before an encounter. I currently have a girlfriend and we have always used a condom but we have had unprotected oral sex, cunnilingus and digital penetration. She was recently tested for HIV and her results were negative. Her malaise was the reason she was tested.
Avatar m tn There are several possible causes for the discoloration, but the most common are mild trauma, a fungal infection, skin conditions(like psoriasis), or nutritional deficiencies(zinc and calcium).Take some nutritional supplements containing zinc and calcium for some days and see if the symptoms improve. If they persist then pls get it examined from a dermatologist and get fungal infections ruled out. Hope it helps.Take care and regards.
Avatar n tn Hello, Peeling and sore skin below the fingernails can be due to dermatitis skin or psoriasis skin. If it is dermatitis skin then combination cream or ointment containing an antibiotic and a steroid is quite useful. If the symptoms persist then get an evaluation done from a dermatologist. It is very difficult to precisely confirm a diagnosis without examination and investigations and the answer is based on the medical information provided.
