Common Questions and Answers about Physical rehab jobs

rehab

Avatar m tn I had a physically demanding job while on tx, but at least I worked inside with a temperature controlled climate. I work in rehab in skilled nursing facilities. My job in physical therapy is to help people who are recovering from fractured hips, knee replacemnets and strokes (a few examples.) It's not like a clinic where you wait for the tech to bring the patient to you.....I would have to get them out of bed, into their wheelchair, on and off a toilet and then exercise and walk with them.
Avatar f tn I have been in outpatient rehab for 2 weeks now since being pulled over for a DUI. I am going voluntarily right now and have been sober since the 6th of July when it happened. I went to the bar with friends last night and only drank soda. My parents flipped out. I am 30 years old and understand the huge mistake that I have made. This is not something I'm going to do all the time, but since everything happened I'm working 2 jobs and putting in 10 hours of rehab. . .

82861 tn?1333453911 Are there any plans in the works for a physical therapy forum? As a veteran of numerous orthopedic surgeries and rehab, I would love to see some kind of expert or even patient-to-patient forum on rehab issues. Surgery is only one step in recovering from an orthopedic injury. The rest of the "cure" is up to the patient's willingness to endure the pain of rehab which is often overlooked by the surgeons themselves.
Avatar m tn weed is more a mental thing then physical, Once I was in a rehab and during the chemical classes the hesd doc talked about pot and basically said it wasn't addictive. he talked more about the lungs, cronic bronchitis nto much else. he said it was the most harmless of all the drugs someone could use. Then he told us now don't go out and smoke csuse your in a program and while in here it won't fly.
Avatar n tn I have been addicted to pain killers for 6+ years. I've decided that enough is enough & I can't continue to live like this anymore. I am 3 days clean & currently going through withdrawls. I can not afford rehab, or have anyone to care for my children if I could afford to go. I don't know if wanting to quit & change my life is enough for me to kick this. My husband knows about my addiction, I went to him for help. He doesn't understand why I can't just stop.
Avatar f tn what will rehab do for me? im in the process of calling the ins co to see where i can go. will they give me something to stop this crazy jittery feeling? will i be not so anxious to the point of not coping? i am comin g out of my skin. i cant take it. will rehab help? or will i be in a strange room with strange people going thru the same exact thing? i cant do this alone i just cant... i need help im just not sure what i need.... i am willing and able to go for inpatient treatment.
Avatar f tn Well I leave Thursdays to do an inpatient detox and rehab. After several surgeries I became dependent on oxycodone 15mg 5xday. When I first realized I was addicted I tried to ct and ended up passing out due to my Bp dropping. Then I decided to taper but my dr stopped that as well because they said I needed to have a 3rd back surgery even tho my last one was in April. I'm not walking correctly, kinda hunched over.

Avatar n tn Who will pay for this great advice? See most people can't afford rehab and don't have insurance, so I am soooo tired of hearing doctors and reformed addicts give that advice..."just do it right and go to rehab". Having been a previous user myself and having to do it on my own and having stuck to it I can say that is not a realistic answer for most people having this problem.
823771 tn?1238694400 I got out of drug rehab about a month ago. I was taking 270mg of methadone and and did NOT want to go to a drug rehab. I had no intentions of quitting upon my release. I went in completely high and naive towards what WD really was. Just like anything else you will find that people are both good in bad while working for a rehab. I encountered people that truly did not care. they told me I would get out of there and fall flat on my face.
1823499 tn?1370090289 I just need to give pt a chance. I will try anything if it helps me to be able to go back to work. I just feel some of the issues i have wont be resolved fron pt. But i am going to continue it and see. My pt says he knows what chiari is but i dont believe they have actually worked with someone who has it! I just dont want to work with a pt who has me doin anything that may hurt me more. Is that possible?!
Avatar f tn I am going crazy i just cant stand to be using anymore but am at a loss as to how i am ever going to do this on my own. I really think i need rehab, detox something of that sort. i live i a small town and dont think we have anything of that sort in our area.
Avatar m tn The length of recovery depend on age, general health of the patient, location and size of the meningioma. I would suggest you to opt for physical and occupational therapy to reduce these impairments. Also please be sure to inform your doctor incase a new symptom appears.
5677659 tn?1379817567 Is there any reason that you could not perform all physical aspects of the position for which you are being considered?
Avatar f tn You have to understand that it is incredibly hard to quit opiates once you are in their grip. Those pills change the actual physical makeup of the person. Your husband may not want to be an addict, he can not quit, or he does not know how. He needs to know that there are ways of doing it if he really wants to. He also has some actual pain issues to deal with. But as I said , the decision must be his.
Avatar n tn RD is not more common in jobs that involve heaving lifting. And in a poll of retina surgeons done many years ago they almost all let their patients return to their previous jobs and allowed exercises such as running.
Avatar f tn Hi my boyfriend is 31 years old and we're waiting for his appointment to get his pacemaker installed. He has to find some other type of work to do then what he was doing before because he's always done physical jobs. What jobs can he do with a pacemaker? He has cardiomyopathy and we're unable to get a list of programs he can go study or jobs he can do. His heart is at 25%. Thanks.
Avatar f tn Due to trying to salvage my relationships with my family I have decided to go to rehab on their request and my hope for some physical and emotional help. Anyone who has been or could give a recommendation I where to go, would be oh so greatly appreciated and maybe what to expect. This is the most terrifying thing I have ever done, but I know now I'm spiraling out of control and on the verge of losing everything... Please help!!!
1318483 tn?1318347182 Coming to rehab was the best thing that could have happened to me. I truly am thankful for crossing paths with my new pump nurse and grateful for her swiftness in getting me in here. I have physical, occupational and speech therapy every day. This makes for a long day but very much worth it. I see improvement every single day. This hospital has the most caring, compassionate and outgoing staff I have ever seen in my life. You cannot help being optimistic here.
Avatar m tn Also, one day we decided to go back to the hospital to see what their physical therapy was like, so I called the Physical Therapy line directly (not through the main line - don't ever do that they have no idea what the hell they are talking about) and went in for a tour. Unlike the stupid answers the main line gave us, the Physical Therapists set the story straight. The hospital main line gave us this ******** talk like: "Oh you have to apply for a clinic card...
Avatar f tn I am being treated for vertigo (rocking back and fourth feeling sensation) and have just started Vestibular Rehab. How long will this take before I know it is doing the trick? I have had vertigo for 2 years now, on and off the first year and the second year has been everyday. Any ideas? I have had 2 brain MRI's they are normal, I have been seeing and ENT for 2 years and the tests done there have also been close to normal.
1161780 tn?1266711844 From what I have observed, which may be different to what research has found, is that people who had very demanding physical jobs developed collaterals. They felt many discomforts but were misdiagnosed or put them down to other problems themselves such as pulled chest muscles etc. Working through the symptoms seemed to force these extra vessels to form. I met others at the other end of the scale who had desk jobs and hardly exercised, these didn't seem to have collateral development.
