Avatar f tn it's been a year since my mom had a stroke, she is in a rehab, but they aren't doing any rehab because they first said she was not responsive enough because she is not able to speak because her tongue is still swollen, she is still unable to speak but she do understand, I had her to write her name, she combs her hair, she will blink once for yes and twice for no, when I question the rehab staff about rehab now they tell me she had exhausted all of her rehab, I don't understand how th
Avatar n tn After the bleed was found, the blood thinner was halted 3 days post-stroke. He has been in acute rehab for about a week, became dehydrated, and now has developed clots in his legs. His legs are very swollen.
Avatar f tn As the swelling and inflammation subsides and the blood supply is restored well, he should improve, until then he needs to be monitored. And once stable his doctor will initiate physical therapy. If the stroke is stabilized, and there is no further bleeding or clotting I would remain optimistic. Good luck with his therapy. Regards.
Avatar n tn My mother had a massive stroke when she was visiting mein USA. Her right side is pralyzed and she also lost her speech. I'd like to bring her back to Chennai, India and continue her rehab treatment (physical, occupational and speech therapies) at Chennai. Can someone help me with information on hospitals & places that provide in-patient rehab services for stroke patients in Chennai, india?? Also, share with me your experiences with these facilities.
Avatar m tn It depends, if the stroke is stabilized, he may be shifted to a nursing home for long term care. 10% of stroke patients require care in a nursing home or other long-term facility. For skilled nursing facility, stroke survivors require daily skilled nursing or rehabilitation services that can be provided only on an inpatient basis. So, he may have been shifted. Regards.
1041487 tn?1256327719 Maybe some have been diagnosed with aphasia but that is a symptom of the problem, which is damage to a specific area in the brain, either it is dead or damaged in the penumbra.. I don't think you will find a single survivor that was told that this particular area in the brain was damaged. In my case i was told I had a stroke with obvious hemiplegia and hemiparetic affects, but I was never told that 2/3rds of my motor cortex was dead and all of my pre-motor cortex was dead.
Avatar m tn She never fully recovered and used a walker for the duration of her life. Physical therapy and rehabilitation is the key. Intense as your medical care can afford. Often. Doing things on your own that you learn from the therapists. Watching for depression which is very high in those who have had a stroke. My aunt was not yet what I'd call elderly and it still was very difficult to overcome damage done by the stroke.
Avatar n tn Thank you for your responses. My husbad has been in rehab for one month and they say he has reached his maximum in physical therapy. The only thing they consider is that he cannot stand or walk. He has improved greatly in other areas. He can feed himself, brush his teeth, wash his face, read a little, do crossword puzzles that I read aloud to him (he was always very good at crossword puzzles). He fades in and out somewhat - sometimes he is very alert and willing to work on writing or puzzles.

1425125 tn?1282754380 If you rehab-ed after your stroke, maybe you can see the same Therapist, that would be good. Any other questions you have, just let me know.
Avatar f tn He was admitted to the rehab facility at the hospital he was admitted and was going through some physical therapy, during which he experienced another stroke (2 weeks after the first) this one was on the left side of the brain. He was intubated and pretty un-responsive for approximately 5 days. He now seems more attentive and somewhat engaging, he is moving his legs and arms a lot. Any thoughts to his prognosis?
1821865 tn?1317522031 My mother had a stroke back on 11/15/2012 at work. She had suffered a schemic stroke on her right side which paralyze her left side completely. She was given tpa a week later she had a cranial bleed. They removed her right skull a few days later she had a second stroke where she lost her ability of speaking. Since she has not said a word. Now she is at a nursing home rehab where she makes 5 steps behind then forward now the place told us they are going to drop her because she is not improving.
Avatar f tn The best thing for you to do is look up REHAB centers in your area or as much of an area that you can afford to drive. It's imperative that you visit more than one. Use all your resources...internet, friends, references, staff and other informative resources that can help you decide. Nursing homes really just take care of the patient with little or no rehab. Do you have a HealthSouth in your area? In bigger cities HealthSouth has a good name.
Avatar n tn I am looking for a post stroke program for water therapy and having NO success! Can someone help me?
Avatar n tn Do you mean a physical trauma to someone that is recovering from a stroke? Or memory loss due to a stroke? Strokes can definitely cause memory loss. If trauma after a stroke, what kind? Trauma to the head? How long ago was the stroke? I know that the doctors and therapists were very worried about setbacks if my husband were to fall or hit his head by banging into something in the first few months after his stroke.

Avatar n tn Is he in physical therapy? My daughter had a stroke 4 weeks ago and her right side was the same as your husbands. She is getting some movement back now but is in intense physical therapy, probably 3 - 4 hours a day. It's just coming back very slowly. She can now move her foot and her hand and wrist. I think she's also bending her knee. Good Luck and hang in there.
Avatar f tn He is still very aware and conscious. Is there hope or rehabilitation for pons stroke patient and what advise can you give the family. He is being considered for home care facility.
Avatar n tn Now it has been 2 months since the heart surgery and the stroke. She is dependent on others for bathing and using going to the bathroom. She is avery private person and this really bothers her. She can move her leg up a bit and down very well. But she can not keep her balance while standing up. Will she ever walk again?
Avatar n tn I thought it was the medication, I refused any pain medication, for the headaches, however they had me on antidepressants for depression. So many people suffer depression after a stroke, however blood tests just revealed that my thyroid levels was very abnormal, and now I am taking medication for that also. So I've been on this for a week now, so I wish you the best of luck. Be perisistant with your doctor, and never give up.
Avatar f tn The Drs said it was the type of stroke that is fatal. 4 days later she is starting a very soft diet, physical therapy, and speech therapy. The stroke hit the left side of her brain and was bleeding. She is gaining little feeling in right leg, can move head to right(slightly) and attempting to talk. She responds by hand squeezing and smiles as well as slight laughter. She remains in ICU but we are looking for nursing home. She is receiving potassium due to slightly low levels.
Avatar m tn The length of recovery depend on age, general health of the patient, location and size of the meningioma. I would suggest you to opt for physical and occupational therapy to reduce these impairments. Also please be sure to inform your doctor incase a new symptom appears.
Avatar m tn The doctors are recommending surgery on the right side first, since that is the side of the stroke. She was moved to acute rehab first to get stronger and to give a diagnosed UTI time to clear up. Is there a time frame for the most success for both cardioid surgeries. The surgeon said 1-2 weeks after the stroke and neurologist said it is elective and can be done in a few weeks after she gets stronger.
